Where else in the world will you see and hear an artist of this caliber teaching not only the "how" but the "why" as well? Nowhere that I know of. Simply awesome!
Jimmy. I was a young highschool shredder Yngwie wanna be back in the hills of Ky. I hooked up with this fine honey. I hated country but as we lay in bed she put on Diamond Rio. What ever got her going. Any way, as I lay there I heard you for the first time. All I remember was your guitar. I blocked everything else out. She fell asleep and I was up all night listening to your guitar parts. Then I discovered other pickers on other tapes. I borrowed 10 of her tapes and locked myself away after school for months. I went from metal to country, blues, Western swing, to bluegrass to jazz. All rolled into one. Hearing you play changed my life.
Jimmy I have been a huge fan of your playing ever since I first heard you. Its really cool to finally see how you play all those licks. Thanks for sharing your skill and knowledge with us.
Hey Jimmy O! Thanks for coming out to Smithville last night for that show! I started playing guitar about the time Diamond Rio came out with that first album. Finally got to see you live and you guys sound as great as ever. Loved seeing you play those 2 bender teles that you’ve played over the years. The only problem is, I’ve been really wanting a bender in my Tele and seeing you play yours sure didn’t help with that! Lol! Going to have to figure out something that I can sell and live without. That’s not easy for me, but I’ve got to get my Tele to Joe Glaser ASAP! PS, thanks for a great country music show that I didn’t have to feel ashamed to bring my wife and kids for fear of what trash that might hear! You guys, and Lady, are still great as ever!
Just found this channel by accident but am really enjoying it. Have been a big DR fan for decades. Just wonderful music/lyrics performed by fine musicians. Enjoyed seeing them in Fort Walton Beach, Florida several years ago.
You've been my favorite player in the country genre since I've first heard Diamond Rio in the early 90's .. I was lucky to see D.R perform at Casino Rama in Canada and was completely blown away by your classical banjo solo before going into Rural Philharmonic .. thank you for all the great picking over the years and wish you and the guys all the best !
New to playing guitar and i have always loved the rio but now I understand how amazing the picking is. Had no Idea how the bender worked and two of them played like a pro. Thanks for the post. I know its a older post but its a big help to me now
This is the best guitar video I've ever watched. Your DR licks are soooo tasty. Thanks Jimmy for sharing..Long time fan! Would love more videos like this!
Brilliant Jimmy, thank you for sharing, 'Love A Little Stronger' has always been one of my favourite tracks, sublime picking, taste, and imagination, thank you.
Jimmy, you are an amazing guitarist and you do such cool things with the B/G bender setup! I used to have a RI paisley that had a B/G bender setup - only the benders were the Parsons/White style. I stupidly sold that guitar about four years ago.....and I still regret it. Guitars: The Museum in Umea, Sweden is where the guitar is now under a glass display case. I"m hoping and praying that when I get out from under some of the debts I'm owing, I'll be able to have an AllParts Paisley with B/G Parsons/White-style benders.
When are you going to do some more videos. I have b bender guitars but I just had Joe Glaser do me a double bender and I want some things to play on it 😊. Lifelong fan. You are hands down my favorite guitarist .
It's gotta be frustrating for all of your musical genius to be lost on 99.9% of the population. I try to share the diamond rio instrumental breaks and solos with family and friends and they just look at me like I'm an idiot. They dont' get it. AGGGHH. its so good!
🎸🙇🙇 we're not worthy!!!! What a great musician/human being with a true love and absolute mastery of guitar/music. Double bender=mind blown!!! I got chills!!!!
Great videos! As others have said, thank you so much for taking the time to record these! You have been one of my guitar heroes for a long time and it's great to see these licks up close. If you wouldn't mind I would love to see another request video with "The ballad of Conley and Billy". Your playing on that one has always amazed me. Thank you!
These videos are great Jimmy! Please keep them coming. Been a huge fan of your work for a long time. Would love to hear you do some Appalachian Dream :)
Interesting Jason. I have been mostly concentrating on tele stuff but I'm bound to break away into some acoustic stuff at some point. The electric stuff is working towards a challenge for any that have been cataloging the concepts. More to follow...
I've always admired his playing and knowledge and being humble enough to share and teach it. Definitely a bucket list item to meet and play guitar with him one day.
I see these were 5 yrs ago, BUT, if you see this, and will do a request again, I would lo e to hear Oh me of My Sweet Baby and how you came about with that and made it yours. . I LOVE the guitar parts on this song. Honestly, no shade to George Strait, but you guys did that soooo much better. LOL. One of my favs.
And if you really wanna know how to play Jimmy is one that we all respect . He’s a legend and a person who really knows the art of playing a tele . My list of faves in Nashville Jerry Reed,Chet Adtkin,Glenn Campbell,Brent Mason,Jimmy Oleander,Vince Gill,Keith Urban,Brad Paisley,Ray flack,Joey Floyd,James Burton,Jody Maphis,Marty Stewart,Albert Lee . I got so many but that’s to name a few sorry if misspelled any names!!!
Jimmy could you please lay out your tabs for "Long Way back" been playing that song in my truck need to take it to my guitar .Id cjust like to know how "The Man" does it and thank you for one of the best lesson ive ever gotten without playing anything. and learning how not to play is almost as important as learning how to play the song on your guitar.. took a little time to step back when wanting to play the guitar on the song. Hard concept to wrap your head around especially if your only a guitar player. so thanks to you i have stopped butchering other peoples material and they are very happy to see the change in me. so for the heart of an old man thank you and if its not too much to ask "long way back"
Awesome video...Would love to see video about either This romeo aint got juliet or One More Day licks...Thx for taking the time to show these riffs : )
I'll have one up Tuesday called "Kooky Kounterpoint". It was inspired by a contest Doug 7 ran on a Lick I did for a Steve Wariner record. I walk through the creation of a new lick using that odd time counterpoint type of stuff. I hope you enjoy it.
Patiently waiting on Telecaster Tuesday!! Did you see my question about the bender video? You may still be laughing at it because it's probably something everybody already knows!
The Jimmy O Show it was about something you said in the Bender video. You mentioned that you had to keep a screwdriver handy because of all that maple, you had to chase the neck around a little. Just wondering what you meant by that.
That is the greatest 'Tele tone' I've heard! I love your intelligent musicality and your patient explanations. I have a couple of guitars Joe put b-benders in - last time he asked if I wanted the G-bender and I foolishly declined! I have an Evans pullstring but Joe's device 'rules'. Thank you, Jimmy, for these endlessly entertaining videos. (What are your string gauges here, please?)
I Have met joe he came up to the tin roof years ago on his bike . He’s a very smart man and really understands Music and tone functionality and is like the Mcgyver of Guitar building. He is so well known already but I would recommend Joe over anyone he’s a genius with guitars. And his Harley kicks ass!!!! Lol
Jimmy.....over the 3 refers to the 3rd note of the scale in the bass, isnt that also the same as what is referred to as "dropped 2" by some, which puts the 2nd note of the CHORD in the bass? (referring to major chord here) Please clarify..thanks for your sharing.
Never heard of a dropped 2. "Over 3", "Over 5"…etc…is common nomenclature in Nashville and the Nashville number system when referring to what note is the lowest in the chord.
Not sure I understand the question referring to intonation in different positions? If this refers to the guitar generally being in tune…it is something I have worked hard at pulling off. This hasn't always been the case in my playing career. Understanding basic set-up, setting of intonation is only part of the picture. Developing left hand feel for actually playing in tune has taken great effort on my part. If my guitar sounds bad (bad tone) or is out of tune, it cripples me as a player. Is this what you're driving at?
How much tension should there be on the downward push for the G bender. This Tele seems like it's a little too much! Just enough to keep it from engaging on its own, or slightly harder? Sorry for so many questions! I just value your opinion!
The Jimmy O Show Ok, that answers my question. I'm still trying to include the G bender in my playing. It's not as easy as I thought it would be though! Thanks again for the reply!
This may be a stupid or crazy question, but what did you mean in the Bender Deep Dive video (at around 2:20) by having to keep a screwdriver handy because of all that maple, you have to chase the neck around a bit. Were you talking about truss rod adjustment, the saddles on the bridge, something to do with the bender's, or something else? Forgive me, I'm still learning!
The Jimmy O Show ...hey Jimmy, i was wondering if maybe at some point when you have a chance, you could show us how to play the instrumental, "Big"? That has SO MUCH meat and potatoes! Thanks man & God bless! Kevin
Where else in the world will you see and hear an artist of this caliber teaching not only the "how" but the "why" as well? Nowhere that I know of. Simply awesome!
Boom!!!
Tommy Emanuel comes to mind. A teacher who tells the how and the why.
I'm glad I found this channel, I grew up listening to Diamond Rio, Jimmy is awesome!!!
What an absolute genius.
Jimmy I have been a huge fan of your playing ever since I first heard you. Its really cool to finally see how you play all those licks. Thanks for sharing your skill and knowledge with us.
Awesome! Thank You Jimmy O. It’s even more special learning from the Jimmy O. Love You More Studio.
Absolutely amazing. I've been waiting years for this stuff. Thank you for doing these videos.
My pleasure!
Still the best country music guitarist to date ! There is simply no one like him !a great artist

Love to!

Jimmy O is dangerous on a bender. Love all his work.
Saw you guys in Crown Point just a few days ago. Was such a great show, and you rocked it even better than before!! Always a fan!
Diamond Rio Is My Favorite Group of all Time, Thank You Jimmy You're still playing strong my Friend !!!!!!
He’s a fantastic guitarist!
Thank you so very much for sharing all your hard work developing Gods wonderful gift given to you.
It's gotta be frustrating for all of your musical genius to be lost on 99.9% of the population. I try to share the diamond rio instrumental breaks and solos with family and friends and they just look at me like I'm an idiot. They dont' get it. AGGGHH. its so good!
Man i love that Mr Olander. Been a fan since the 90's.
Been in such a rut with my playing lately. Your videos have really gotten me out of that and helped me add a few new licks to my catalog! Thanks!
I really am digging these licks/videos. Thanks for taking the time to record them Jimmy!
You bet!
Mind blown! Please do more of these!
Thanks Jimmy for sharing your musical intellect and style!!
Love it Jimmy... Became a fan of you from Diamond Rio and still hooked on you bro...
🎸🙇🙇 we're not worthy!!!! What a great musician/human being with a true love and absolute mastery of guitar/music. Double bender=mind blown!!! I got chills!!!!

What an unbelievable Musician!

Thanks Jimmy. What a doctor of melodic theory.
I just got a double bender and learned this! Thank you! Could you PLEASE do this for “Meet in the Middle”? That’s one of my all time favorites!
That opening riff with both bends badawaaaa bada-ba PA padada BADAwaaa
Awesome video! This is off my favorite Rio record. Thanks for sharing Jimmy!
Thx!
I love your fills and solo on "This Romeo Ain't Got Juliet"! It'd be awesome if you posted a video of that song too!
Thanks for the videos . love diamond Rio picking.
Thx
Jimmy, where in Nashville can I go to learn to be as good a guitar player as you. I can tell that you've spent a lot of time perfecting your craft. 🙂
IM NOT JIMMY BUT I CAN TELL YOU MAYBE PLAY 6 NIGHTS A WEEK WITH A GOOD COUNTRY BAND FOR STARTERS MAYBE TRY DON KELLY IN NASHVILLE!!!
Jeez! Can't believe I'm only now hearing your playing for first time. What a guitar player! Phenomenal.
Thx Richard!
And if you really wanna know how to play Jimmy is one that we all respect . He’s a legend and a person who really knows the art of playing a tele . That was another great one! Thanks for that t
really good explanation!
Cool Beau!
His tone is unreal !
Man, I'm hoping you haven't quit making these videos! Still looking forward to the next one, and hoping to see the other Yellow Glaser Tele!
I'll have one up Tuesday called "Kooky Kounterpoint". It was inspired by a contest Doug 7 ran on a Lick I did for a Steve Wariner record. I walk through the creation of a new lick using that odd time counterpoint type of stuff. I hope you enjoy it.
The Jimmy O Show I'm sure I will. Thanks again!! Also, sorry for so many questions!
of course i've heard the b-bender before but now i know how it works.always wanted to know, & now i've heard clarence white finally too
what a nice guy
Patiently waiting on Telecaster Tuesday!! Did you see my question about the bender video? You may still be laughing at it because it's probably something everybody already knows!
Must've missed your question Beau. This weeks vid is still cooking.
The Jimmy O Show it was about something you said in the Bender video. You mentioned that you had to keep a screwdriver handy because of all that maple, you had to chase the neck around a little. Just wondering what you meant by that.
Disregard, I see your answer below.
Great stuff as usual Jimmy.
Thx Sammy!
Is that 5ths chord the same chord as the opening guitar riff to Kenny Chesneys. Just don't happen twice? Yep i have the ear.
He plays cool!
Best sounding Tele in the world!
Thx Bryan
I Have met joe he came up to the tin roof years ago on his bike . He’s a very smart man and really understands Music and tone functionality and is like the Mcgyver of Guitar building. He is so well known already but I would recommend Joe over anyone he’s a genius with guitars. And his Harley kicks ass!!!! Lol
What kind of bender lanyard thingy do you have attached between your two keychains??
Jimmy O is the best.
Maybe some easier stuff Jimmy once in awhile.
With the same feeling this stuff is beautiful but it’s hard for most players.
Trust me Jimmy ain’t most players.
How is it that...that Tele sounds in tune over those all those positions? Tuned 5ths and 8ths over A and D?
Not sure I understand the question referring to intonation in different positions? If this refers to the guitar generally being in tune…it is something I have worked hard at pulling off. This hasn't always been the case in my playing career. Understanding basic set-up, setting of intonation is only part of the picture. Developing left hand feel for actually playing in tune has taken great effort on my part. If my guitar sounds bad (bad tone) or is out of tune, it cripples me as a player. Is this what you're driving at?
Do a rig run down for us. What are you playing through?
Maybe. It's pretty simple.
How do 2 people vote this amazing work of art down?? 🤦🏽♂️
They have no taste.
How much tension should there be on the downward push for the G bender. This Tele seems like it's a little too much! Just enough to keep it from engaging on its own, or slightly harder? Sorry for so many questions! I just value your opinion!
I have my mention on the high side. Personal preference though...
The Jimmy O Show Ok, that answers my question. I'm still trying to include the G bender in my playing. It's not as easy as I thought it would be though! Thanks again for the reply!
The Jimmy O Show Good to see you back on here!
No prob.
Can you do a lesson Norma Jean Riley Please?
What do you mean by "'Ghost pedal' on the open 5".
What is 'ghost pedal'?
Jimmy O - Can you tab out the parts from video starting at 1:08 to 1:38?
I wish someone could tab this out!
The highly figured Maple without a different wood for the finger board leaves my neck somewhat unstable and requires (sometimes daily) adjustments.
The Jimmy O Show Thanks for answering. That does make sense. Also, thank you for keeping up with these videos. True inspiration!!
The Jimmy O Show ...hey Jimmy, i was wondering if maybe at some point when you have a chance, you could show us how to play the instrumental, "Big"? That has SO MUCH meat and potatoes! Thanks man & God bless!
Kevin
Rick Beato's brother! hahahaha
Come on jimmy double cheating, definitely my favorite Tele player
How can I get a double bender when I'm not a man of money
"Just do this, stupid..."
jeanyus
Yea, I quit.
Way to not update anything I call this the Jimmy no show
