A ballet dream: "Swan Lake"
International Festival Ballet presents a feast of beauty, elegance and grace. A consummate work of art with live orchestral accompaniment
For many, "Swan Lake" is synonymous with ballet. The romantic fairy tale about the young Prince Siegfried, who falls in love with the swan princess Odette and wants to free her from the evil spell of Duke Rothbart, is a story about the power of true love.
This ballet piece is part of the standard repertoire of all major companies. In particular, the Allegro Moderato from the Swan Dances of Act 2, choreographed by Lev Ivanov, has been the subject of countless parodies and is therefore known far beyond the ballet-interested public as the "Dance of the Four Little Swans". In short, it is an ingenious work by an ingenious composer and has been a crowd-puller for centuries.
"Swan Lake" is conjured up on stage by one of the best classical ballet ensembles, the International Festival Ballet. In addition, the grandiose stage design by the brilliant theatre designer Vjatscheslav Okunev, who works for the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg and La Scala in Milan, among others, beautiful costumes and the boundless elegance and carefree lightness of the "International Festival Ballet" ensure a dreamy and fairytale-like version of a classical ballet that continues to fascinate even after more than 100 years.
The International Festival Ballet Ensemble dances on
Artistic Director Alex Bogutsky
When the new programmes of Swan Lake, The Nutcracker and The Sleeping Beauty go on sale in summer, the St. Petersburg Festival Ballet will have a new name.
Shocked and affected by Russia's inhumane war of aggression against Ukraine, the renowned ballet ensemble is changing its name to "International Festival Ballet".
The ensemble, in which a large number of Ukrainian artists also dance, sees itself all the more naturally as a ballet of peace and cohesion for all people.
The "International Festival Ballet" is a high-calibre ensemble that impresses the world with its strict classical elegance, the fresh breath of the twenty-first century and a perfect dance performance. The company consists of 42 dancers. All dancers are graduates of the best Russian ballet schools such as the Vaganova Academy of St Petersburg, the Kiev State Choreographic Academy, the Moscow Academy of Choreography, the Ufa Ballet School and the Perm Ballet Academy. The ensemble has also worked with the best ballet theatres and won numerous prizes and awards at international ballet festivals and competitions. The 42 dancers of the International Festival Ballet make up one of the most beautiful and strongest ballet companies and one of the most renowned in the world.
