Yes, they are indeed. Vincenzo Mancuso is a well known and respected professional session guitar player, who played live and in the studio for many Italian famous singers. Matteo is his talented son...a perfect mix of Bireli Lagrene and Guthrie Govan with Mancuso's unique taste. One of the most interesting guitar players for the next future.

Ho conosciuto Vincenzo tanti anni fa, abbiamo lavorato insieme in tour per tutta l'Italia, la mia band apriva il concerto e successivamente Vincenzo si esibiva con i più importanti artisti, vi assicuro che ho ancora negli occhi la magia, la velocità, la tecnica e l'espressività che esprimeva con la sua chitarra, senza nulla togliere a Matteo, Vincenzo è da sempre un grande chitarrista. Un abbraccio caro Vincenzo, ti ricordo con stima, Marco.
È incredibile quanto talentuosi siano entrambi.
Matteo è probabilmente il chitarrista più rivoluzionario dell’ultimo decennio (se non anche oltre), sia per la sua tecnica unica di fingerpicking che credo nessuno abbia mai usato prima nel modo in cui lui usa (due posizioni differenti e ha praticamente coniato un modo di suonare, e ha un gran bell’attacco pur suonando con le dita, tecnica e velocità incredibili, non riesco a immaginare il fare assoli a quella velocità senza un plettro, davvero incredibile), sia per la musicalità e scelta delle note, e credo che si veda quanto suo padre sia stato importante, entrambi chitarristi di altissimo livello.
Spero che Matteo possa avere una carriera come quella del padre, i presupposti ci sono, dato che è considerato dalla comunità internazionale di chitarristi come il talento maggiore della generazione, ed è stato citato da vari chitarristi famosi, quali Steve Vai, Joe Bonamassa e non ricordo chi altri.

@@antoinesguitar the original song is Stevie Wonder's song, but there's a famous instrumental version of 2 great guitar players (no singing only guitars), and the solo / "impovisation" of Matteo is the exact same solo on the album. I'm not talking about the original melody of the verse chorus, but the "improvisation" parts which in this case are not improvised obviously.
But anyway I'm a big fan of Matteo.
To me, he's the best guitar player hands down!

This is so comforting. The nuances in every single note... Yes, he is impressive all around but the tone is so good. It makes me want to crawl up in the fetus position with my thumb in my mouth. In fact, I am going to restart the video and do just that.

A few years ago, I was blown away by Birelli Lagrene and Sylvian Luc’s version of this song, so much so that I transcribed and learned Slyvian’s solo. And just now, when this video began to play, I was thinking how similar the chord voicings were to those in the Lagrene/Luc rendition. But I was totally surprised to hear Mateo quoting Sylvian’s solo multiple times! What an interesting window into the way a genius like Mateo hears and synthesizes influences.

Great to see father and son bonding through music, I just wonder how many times dad had to scold Matteo and put him in his place. "I brought you into this world and I can damned sure take you out!"
Perhaps not often, or ever. They might have a deep connection. Perhaps dad worked to create that connection by never tossing out idle death threats, kids can take that stuff seriously, they're just kids. Those words can terrify them and permanently break a special bond. You have to carefully consider what you say to them. Rehearse for situations before they arise.
And perhaps the son listened. I have a great connection with my son. We both play music as well.
When my son was in grade school and was playing at one of the neighbors places the "dad" over there told him that he was going to rip his throat out. He told me about it and was totally rattled, never went over there again. The boy that lives there does not have a special relationship with that "dad". Be careful with words, one sentence can permanently destroy a relationship.
