Commented on a previous recent v.3 video and was very impressed. I’m the old Viet Nam Huey jockey that wrapped my FW 450 v.2 mechanics in a scale Huey body dressed up like the “C” model gunship I flew with the 191st Assault Helicopter Company out of Dong Tam, South Viet Nam in 1969-70. (Gun platoon named “Bounty Hunters.) So, being an old man now, flying R/C heli’s since my first Kalt Baron “60” from Circus Hobbies in the early 1980’s (Century VII radio), you can imagine how relaxing and enjoyable it is to still be able to fly-completely stress free-with the new technology offered by Flywing. And for those naysayers you might encounter on other TH-cam or heli forums, this technology allows young newcomers and decrepit, old guys like me, to safely and comfortably remain active in this great, rotary-winged facet of our hobby.
Again, thanks for yet another comprehensive video that keeps the juices flowing even in the constricting veins of this 76-year-old “sling wing” pilot. My name is already placed on order for this upcoming v.3 in a couple suppliers, whichever releases first.

You mean they shouldn't have to attempt to fly for a few seconds and then rebuild their aircraft after each short flight? But they're miss all the fun!
Seriously, I tried to learn to fly an RC heli in the early '80s (I'm about 16 years your junior) and it was expensive and very time consuming. Flight simulators made learning a lot easier. These new helicopters look flyable even without simulator training.
I'm looking to purchase one of these modern flybarless helicopters but I'd like the heli to be compatible with ArduPilot so I could use it to fly autonomous "missions."
Thanks for sharing your Viet Nam story. I'd love to see video of your scale Huey. I don't suppose you'd consider posting videos on TH-cam? No fancy editing needed. Just upload the video. My various robot video are nothing fancy but it's fun to have a place to share these video.

None of us old timers where I fly have kept our ancient video cameras and all of us agree these “phone” videos you see are weak. So, no videos for me but I do have photos of both my FW450 v.2 “Huey” and my FW450 v.1 “Hughes 500. Is there a way to send them to you?
Thank you for your insight and comment. wow, a real heli pilot. man, huey in real life sounds super awesome. i have seen them in flight personally. wish one day i could build myself a micro light electric helicopter so i can fly myself. using H1, it will be super easy to fly. totally agree with you, new tech has open this amazing hobby to everyone to enjoy.
Ardu pilot is a flight controller with software that supports many types of aircraft, and even vehicle and boats. you can configure planes, helis, drones, vtols, boats, cars with ardupilot and even fly or drive autonmous missions. but the setup, and tweaking of parameters to get good results is nothing but pain in the b*** :D hahaha h1 is super easy and i hope soon they will introduce some kind of way to integrate it to waypoints software.

I learnt 3D flying with a 50 size raptor. Amazing piece of kit.
My concern with this is it’s too easy and thus people will become complacent on how dangerous that spinning disc really is.
agree with that but we will have to go with tech and educate people that these are still dangerous.
Good point. This is a 450 and I'm sure it can do some damage but I can't imagine someone flying a 700 or 800 with gps because they don't have any skills. I know my 700 has a main rotor diameter of 5' with carbon fiber blades spinning over 1800 rpm. One guy about 90 miles away from where I live hit his own neck with a 700. He ended up on an autopsy table.

You know, I think our V2's SHOULD be able to do that. As far as I know, it's the same helicopter essentially. I wonder if there will be a firmware update for people like you and I who have the V2 version. I sort of feel ripped off, as I bought my V2 a year ago, this coming March. It's still sitting new in the box. Maybe I'll just sell it and apply the money to a V3, if there's no update. Supposedly, if you have the V2.5 you CAN fly it like this.

I was watching another video, of someone flying the V2 version. He too was doing Piro Flips with the V2. He didn't know what he was doing, as he didn't know what he was doing, was and ACTUAL trick, but the V2 IS capable of doing them. He obviously didn't know what a side Tic Tok was, so he didn't attempt it. He did show doing a sideways invert, but he just left it there for about 7-8 seconds, and flipped it back. I'm curious to see if the firmware in the V2 will make it do smooth Side Tic Toks like you're doing. You REALLY showed some of what the newest V3 can do. I can't wait to see more!
i believe with right settings v2 can do that. but v3 has better power combo and settings.

Looks awsome. Would you recommend this, for towing a stranded rc seaplane? I am looking for something to save my A5 if it gets stranded in the lake.
to be honest i have not tried lifting a payload or towing a plane with this helicopter. it does have good power, but try everything at your own risk :) GPS system for sure can help in towing process

I am using 5000MAh with the airwolf shell on it. without airwolf shell you will have to find a way to fit that big battery under the frame

of course you can. I am saving to get that radio too :) so far very happy to use my 14SG. but 16IZ seems to be better as its a newer radio.

The FW450L V3 looks great. Does it need that calibration dance whole connected to a computer?
you can do off line calibration too. there is a method of off line calibration for h1 lite. where helicopter does not need to be physically connected with usb during the calibration. only connect to start calibration. flywing has posted a video of that method.

Does fw450 v3 only invert sideways when using GPS? The fw200 you can use the right stick to flip front or backwards into invert flight via Acro Flight mode...

hey ali, I learned on a Thunder Tiger Raptor 90SE (I know, one heck of a trainer haha). I understand in 3D mode there is no GPS or stability, however, does 3D have anything like a heading hold lock like an old Futaba GY401 Gyro? Or is the tail going to go whacky like some Kavan from the mid 1970s? lol
Of course tail locks, there is a gyro for that :) or else how would you even fly if you had to manually lock the tail at one place hahaha

I'm gathering all the info about the 450 that I can, prior to buying one. On one of the Chinese "how to" videos, it shows the guy removing the canopy, but he also removes the nose piece before he does so. Is there a easy release on the hinge or how is it done without breaking anything? Thank you in advance.

there are two screws where the hinge is, if you remove one of them you can easily remove nose piece. then there are two more at the rear, you can see them in hole. and you can remove the canopy

you will need to use your own receiver. Like i do, previously i used R2008SB SFHSS and i am still using same in Huey UH1, Bell 206. you can program it easily with 16iz

at least a million beginner rc pilots will disagree LOL. this helicopter has full manual 3D flight mode too, so experts can do manual 3d themselves. no need to be negative here buddy

I have an H1 controller on a Trex 500 and am thinking about putting one on a 450 helicopter.
The FW APP doesn't seem to have an option to save a model set up so just wondering if you've had issues with that.
you can't save a model on the app. but on your radio right.

Just worried about connecting the lead to make an adjustment to one on the APP and then the other, can that software identify a different model you are adjusting .The software doesn't have a means if saving the adjustments you've made to different models that can be selected in the APP.
When you plug that lead in can it identify

you are welcome. yes normally for flywing helis. you had to do compass calibration. but now with V3 gps you do not have to. however i would still suggest to double check everything before flying and then goto field. my sincere condolences for your loss. She is in a better place. one day we all have to go. stay strong my friend. life goes on and we need to make sure we live our life to fullest.

Did you used some PID control brother? Did you built it?
yes i tweaked the settings using 1.9v software. you can do that too.
One question so in 3D is up stick inverted down and dw stick up?
if you set beginner mode, its up is up, down is down in inverted. but if you set professional it will reverse
Is it true that in GPS mode it can just fly away? That is what I have heard besides, like a comment below GPS may make one complacent. I prefer the challenge of manual like my Goosky S2. Even in standard flying mode its not easy to fly, you have to pay attention. I have come seriously close to my head (had to duck).
if ever have any such incident where you feel you have no control, flip flight mode to 3d and back to gps immediately and you will get control back
With gps assist are the left stick movement same with ordinary helis? Like when inverted and you want to go up you pull down on the left stick?
There are two modes for inverted flight, easy and professional. In easy mode everything stays the same

Hi Buddy, I am helping Flywing to test this helicopter. I received the worlds first sample. i was the only one to get a V3 in this whole world. They sent me for my testing, feedback and help to improve helicopter and software. i have been testing this helicopter since December 2022 but did not post any videos as it was a brand new product that required much testing. with lots of testing and feedback, i helped flywing develop this product into a mature product that you see now. You can order from kickstarter. or if you are worried, you can wait and order from dealers once its available.
This heli is good for beginner 3d pilot just to get the feel of inverted flying. Of course, this will not replace 3d sim to do the transition your self.

FlySky, Futaba SFHSS, or FrSky Protocol receivers are fine

please check with online sellers for batteries, because for us locally we can find these easily in China. i am not sure about outside china

RS4 and this are two different animals. we can't compare these. unless if you put H1 on RS4 then maybe. RS4 is for manual flights, 3d pilots, stunts and competition. This one is more towards beginners pilots.

Mine locks in matter of seconds
how are the servos i hear they are kinda finicy like $14 so says.
so far i have had a couple of crashes on these and servos are still holding very well. no issues
I am always amazed by tech like this.
Sadly, there are a lot of naysayers what come up with all kinds of nonsensical fearmongering & conspiracy theories to bully anyone that operates aircraft like this out of the hobby. I despise this level of stigma. It's one of the reasons why remotely piloted helicopters have not had any serious innovation since 2014, & even then, there were a lot of naysayers when helicopters first ditched the flybar around 2008~2010; & even back when helicopters first went electric (phasing out internal combustion engines), that had its naysayers too.
As for me, this is aimed at beginners & more power to them, as this will attract new pilots to the hobby & open up the door to a new generation of pilots.
My only gripe with this helicopter is that it did not exist back in 2007, when I was first getting into flying remotely piloted helicopters. I could have done welll with something like this, back then. It would have helped bridge the gap between those toy "elevator" helicopters & flying The Real McCoy.

Hey Ali, thanks for getting back to me. Unfortunately, I went to the Kickstarter App I found and made the $499.00 pledge before I got ur response. I was told that I wouldn’t be charged for the heli until the fundraising campaign ends today at 8am. I wish I would have saw ur response sooner. I probably would have gotten it sooner. Now I will have to wait until they notify me to obtain all my shipping details. It will probably take a little longer to receive it using the kickstarter app. But at least my order is in. If anything changes with the campaign and I’m not charge for what ever reason? I will go to the site u sent me. I do have a friend that wants one. I will definitely send him to the website u sent me. Hey Ali, I got a message from kickstarter that they reached there goal and the campaign is over. They billed my account today and said to expect an email to finalize the sale and collect my shipping info. It’s probably going to take a little longer to receive it using this method, but the important thing is that I reserved my heli. I can’t stop watching ur review. That heli is truly amazing!!! Can’t believe they fit that animal and all the accessories in such a small case. U can tell that all the details were well thought out. And I have to agree with ur assessment. That heli is definitely the 2023 Heli of the year for sure!!! And I can’t wait to get mine!!! Any idea how to get extra batteries? Can I purchase them from ur link? Rescue modes of Vbar, Spirit and Brain and better at flipping. The fw450 looks super sketch and loses a lot of altitude before flipping over.

Salve ho questo modello di elicottero, ho calibrato la bussola del GPS ma l'elicottero continua a non stare fermo in quanto va in dietro e avanti da solo. A volte si abbassa da solo. Purtroppo non so come risolvere il problema.
