    Mr. Cory, can you, please, bring more of these lesser known composers?? Like Euday, F. Henri Klickmann etc... it’s great to hear you playing!

    I like that you played in swing-rhythm.
    Some also play it straight, what I find a bit boring

      That's the way this arrangement is, it's not my choice.

  • @Remi-B-Goode

    Does that mean that it was meant to be played like that (with "swing" effect) ? Bowman surely saw the 1919 score and agreed ?!

    • @BachScholar
      @BachScholar  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, Wheeler's version has dotted notes because it is a "Fox Trot" arrangement.

    • @Remi-B-Goode
      @Remi-B-Goode 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BachScholar yes I saw it of course that's why I m wondering if Bowman agreed on this change !!!

    • @BachScholar
      @BachScholar  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It doesn't matter. Bowman's own piano version is terrible. He didn't know at all how to write for the piano. He was no Joplin.

    • @Remi-B-Goode
      @Remi-B-Goode 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BachScholarYes it matters, is Bowman involved in this second edition 4/5years later or not! so you insinuate that it was meant to be played with this effect (i m not talkin bout the differences in the other parts) in 1915 but Bowman being a bad musician didnt know how to transcribe it on the score !

    • @BachScholar
      @BachScholar  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, it doesn't matter. This is because I am playing Wheeler's arrangement, which I specify in the title. Whether Bowman approved of it or not is of no relevance because I am playing someone else's arrangement, which was published for the public to play. Wheeler has dotted notes in his "Fox Trot" version from 1919 (because all Fox Trots have dotted notes or swing rhythms) but Bowman doesn't in his original 1915 edition. This is Bowman's original edition and it is really badly written for piano (link below). The reason it is bad is because of all the big clunky chords in the RH and the very difficult octaves in the LH. The only way most pianists can possibly play this is if the tempo is really slow. To get any sort of moving tempo, these awkward chords and octaves need to be changed. Joplin would have never written something this awkward. This indicates Bowman was probably not a very good pianist. Wheeler makes these changes, thus making the rag much less difficult and more pianistic to play. For example, he breaks the opening octaves between the hands and he changes the big four-note RH chords to just two notes.

    Some of you need to get off the cross, because someone needs the wood. Hall plainly states that he is playing an ARRANGEMENT. PERIODT. END OF DISCUSSION. The original is ridiculously clumsy. Where are all of you complaining about the endless videos of other pianists playing it “in the wrong key” and adding their own flourishes? I have a copy of the 78 rpm record (All Star Trio, and I have posted a video of the record played on a Victrola VV-VIII on TH-cam) linked in one of his replies, and it is “of the period” and the same rhythms are used.
