    Growing Files is important for those wanting to work with material as it being recorded. You should always give a reason for turning something on or off, so the viewer can make a more informed choice. Enable Mercury Transmit essential if wanting to use external monitor.

    Hey thanks - Appreciate these tips for my next video... I just upgraded my PC and added multiple Nvme drives to assign the scratch & cache.
    It would have been helpful if you could provide an explanation of the features you recommend to switch off in the settings, to give people more peace of mind, as to what they are de-activating.
    Maybe you could add this extra info in your video description?

      They are features that you don't worry about unless you know about them, so basically if you know you know! Otherwise just turned them off!

    You don't like proxies? They're amazing. Allow your slow computer to play back faster because you're playing back low res copies of your media. Then when it's time to render, you simply turn it off.

    @SLpreme You said to put your video and audio preview scratch disks on your fastest drive. Would this be better than having your OS and premiere on the fastest drive? My new build will have 3 separate SSDs, the new super-fast SSD I bought and my 2 older ones. Just curious what you think I should best allocate OS/premiere, cache, scratch disk, and source media, etc...

    I'm using a 4gb ram lap and using premiere pro 2020 took up to 80℅ of my ram
    I had to downgrade a bit and now I'm using 2013 version. Well.i just started TH-cam so im gonna start small 🙃

      I know, you gotta start somewhere! I would recommend you to research proxies on TH-cam and enable it on low ram computers

    This is great. Really appreciate these menu window step by steps. Look forward to trying this, sick of the force quit then restart enemas.
    Btw - These menu settings are different. Can't find this menu setup in Premiere Pro 2020 v14.3.2. Media and Media Cache however appear to be the same.

      Btw just tried all the settings you suggest, and my laptop (MacBook Pro 32Gb RAM, 2.6 GHz Intel Core i7, Radeon Pro 560X 4 GB, 1 TB) still takes a dump. Premiere does now last longer tho in the edit, but then I hear the fan start to roar, then I get the out of memory message on Mac, proceeded by shut down/hard boot.
      External drive I'm pointing to for scratch has over 3.54 TB available of space, so this is a kerfuffle.

      @@ChristopherDillman The fastest drive option for a cache files would be an internal NVME drive. In your case (with MacBook) even external SSD via USB C/Thunderbolt port would work better compared to 3.54 TB mechanical old school spinning drive which doesn't reach the same speed as SSD or NVME.

    Why disable proxies? They seem to help a lot with intense workflows. Would you only recommend disabling if not using any?

    Bro after applying this settings my premiere pro crashed Blue screen death. It's using 100% Memory and getting crashed idk why, mine graphics card is NVIDIA getforce GTX 1050 4GB, Intel HD Graphics card core i5, 7th gen. Do I need to change something in Graphics Settings?

    Why would I want to disable proxies. I use proxy video for edit 4k and 4k h.265 content. With out proxy videos you cannot easily play or scrub timeline without being choppy and have latency issues. I have 64 GB of ram and an 8 core processor, plus an NVIDA Quadro K4200 and without the use of proxies it still lags

      Yessir I do that on my MacBook. Any drive would work, you just have to link it properly. Internal drive ideally should be just premiere only and extra drive should be cache or project files

    Are the changes made to Video Previews and Audio Previews saved for all future projects thereafter? Or do they have to be adjusted individually for each project?

      they are automatically generated and future projects will not reuse the files. Only if the file is reused in the same project Premiere would use them again

    Great video! One question though 🤔 even though I changed the location of the Media Cache Files folder to a different hard drive, upon importing footage into my project my main drive seems to want to fill up (as if it's using that as the Media Cache Folder). Any thoughts on this, and how i would be able to get around it? Thanks!

      It's probably because the footage moves to your main drive to the media cache drive. Make sure you use an SSD if possible (I would just buy a bunch of 64gb SSD in bulk, one for scratch disk, one for media cache, one of exports)

      I think you can use one of them as both (it's a little overkill to have one separate one of each of those :) and the other drive could be the project files and exports

    Great video, thanks. When I want to add another scratch disk to my photoshop "scratch disks" window, only 1 appears even though I have multiple external drives connected. So I don't have the option to add others to the scratch disks. Any suggestions?

      You have to click browse and click on the correct disk drive

      It doesn't matter, at least in my case, I don't use them and that's because I have decent hardware. If you don't then leave it on

      I had the same question. I leave it on, when I want to see something I just render that part. At least for me, when projects start to have lots of layers, color correction, adjustment layers, audio, so on and so forth, it’s just smooth no matter what. 😁🤷🏻‍♂️

      Not really it's more of a maximum amount allowed for premier. If you needed that much ram then premiere would be higher priority

      it is necessary if you want maximum performance. Partition doesn't count as it is about the drives total bandwidth performance

    I don't fully understand all this yet which might be exposed b y this question: When I assign separate SSDs for Scratch disk and cache, can these just be blank SSD's? Like can I have all of my raw footage importing in from a hard drive, and then assign blank SSD's to the scratch disk and cache like you showed? Thanks!

      Yeah you want to have some drives dedicated to one of those tasks only for best performance. I am not rich so I just used a really fast NVME drive to do the cache and scratch disk and the other works as my normal windows and project files

    So... I'm not sure why, but my Edit tab does not show "Preferences" anywhere on the dropdown list. I simply created a new project, and was going to try out your suggestions, but I can't really do that if there's no Preferences option.

      It wouldn't make a difference. The reason you want multiple drives is for extra bandwidth

      Yes. Theoretically. If you have fast enough CPU ryzen 3 or intel i5 3470 or better and a 4GB or better graphics card it'll benefit
