    Have always heard the "old timer mechanics" say, check your float level, float level is off, etc. This video really explains exactly what that means. And not so much getting the float level correct but could be a leaky seal causing overflow/too rich as well. Would be fun to take a day class with him. I can only imagine how much you could learn in a 4-6 hour class!

    This is excellent. I don’t understand why more carb rebuild videos don’t go into depth about bench tests.

    If you want a convenient fixture for holding carbs with a vise during leak tests a long piece of ~5/16" aluminum plate is easy to add holes to and can place carbs away from the vise for easy access. For test shutoff valves I use plastic Briggs and Stratton inline valves with my dummy tanks. They are cheap by the bag via Ebay (and also go on all my gravity feed mowers and small engines).
    While you probably know to use "hollow ground" screwdriver bits on jets because wedge style flat tips smear brass, you can make hollow ground bits even better by grinding them like this (with a Dremel or similar) which is a side view: )(
    The edge you create grips the bottom of the screw slot in the jet even if the rest of it is trashed. If you pick up some long hollow ground (typical flat tip bits are hollow ground) bits you can reach deep into carbs.

      @@How2Wrench Hi Shane! Just ran into a problem with my inline 4 carbs. Carb 1 not running as hot as the others. Pulled float bowl of carb 1, cleaned all jets and bowl. New float bowl gasket. Reassembled, verified no leaks. Decided to actuate throttle body by hand before putting carbs back on the bike and carbs 4, 3, and 2, all squirt out fuel in a nice stream, EXCEPT carb 1. Seems like no gas comes out of that brass nipple. Not a stream or slow blurp. So i figured thats why carb 1 wasn't running as hot as the other 3. But how do i fix it? Carb 1 gets gas, just doesn't shoot out stream when you actuate throttle body. I'm not sure which "port" to clean out to help remedy this. Keihein carbs off an 82 honda 650 nighthawk. Thanks for any help.

  • @toycollector10
    @toycollector10 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Leaving your bike on the side stand for extended periods puts a side strain on the float hinge that can cause it to stick in an open valve condition. I always store my bikes on the center stand.

    Good instruction. I had to intuit a lot of these things, teaching myself in the garage. It is not the fastest way to learn. But it'll get you there in a few decades. Buy old vehicles, wait (not long) for them to have an issue then watch youtube. Repeat
