You asked for ideas to help with the mosquitoes. Here’s what we do. If you have a vegetable garden or you’re planning on growing one add sage and basil. They will keep mosquitoes out of the garden and mosquitoes wont lay eggs in standing water surrounded by those herbs. In your garden you can plant lavender and citronella geraniums. Those have a heavy smell and will repel mosquitos out of your yard. Finally to keep them out of your house keep mint in flower pots around the windows and hanging by the front door. You’ll never have a problem with them inside and they’re great for cooking and teas too.
Just placed our order. Thank you 🙂
Plant the herbs in your flower beds as well! They also look nice! And no rule says that vegetables, herbs, and flowers HAVE to be planted separately.
It's looking great, you guys. I'm looking forward to seeing all the flowers. This is Luba's childhood home, if I remember correctly. It makes me smile. Respect and love from the US.
Hi Pavlo and Luba. My name is Ken. I live in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada and am originally from a small town in Manitoba called Dauphin. It's the home of Canada's National Ukrainian Festival that takes place in early August each summer. My grandparents from both sides of my family immigrated to Canada from Ukraine in the early 1900s. My parents have kept up many traditions that have been passed down from their parents. They are both fluent in the Ukrainian language. Today we will be celebrating Ukrainian Easter according to the Julian calendar. We will be having our baskets of food blessed at church this morning and will be enjoying the "feast" when we get home. I discovered yoiur TH-cam channel a few months ago and check in regularly to watch. When you go to your summer home that you're doing all the good work on, it reminds me of the homes of my great aunt and uncles that were farmers in rural Manitoba several decades ago. Your videos are great and give me a sense of what rural Ukraine is like and how my ancestors lived back in Ukraine and how they brought that same life and hard work ethic to rural Canada. I'd love to hear back from you if you have time to reply to me! You guys are a great couple...we pray for you and Ukraine!
Put up bat houses in the trees around your property. They will eat tons of mosquitoes
I owe my son an evening of labor to put up bat houses. They are all the rage.
@@qwazse4 We have had them for years and they really do help a lot!
Build some bat houses (similar to bird houses) to help control the mosquitoes
chickens eat mosquitoes too
You’re both very fortunate to have this place!!!
The mosquito repellent you are burning is called Citronella i believe.
You need to release some fish that eat mosquito larva into the pond. Just some minnows would be fine.
I was going to suggest the same. Not sure about the environmental regulations “if any” in Ukraine re invasive species or unauthorized introductions but some mosquito eating fish would definitely help. Perhaps something like Perch or Sunfish in N America could provide food for the table as well?
Build your out house down wind so you wont smell it in the yard or house. Keep it away from the water well( 45 meters) and the pond at the neighbors. You could have a waterline from the well pump and a sink and soap to wash hands on the outside of the building. I'm sure Luba would be happy with that.
You've come a long way from what it was before, folks. It's always much hard work, and can take years to complete, but is worth it. When it's all done and looking back --- did we do all that. Also, honoring the past has a ring to it. May you and Ukraine the great prosper always. Moja Domovina.
THIS is what it should be in all Ukraine. Good luck to you 👍👏
In the fall you can dig up the peony bulbs and split them up to start my peony plants.
Nice transformation. As for the outhouse, if possible I would put it in location where you can have privacy and a view without having to close the door. The pit should be 2 meters deep if possible. Flies will follow the light. If you put a 3 or 4 inch tube from the pit to the sky they will escape. Put ashes from the fire place in the pit to kill the smell.
You two worked so hard last year and are off to a great start this year. The house is looking nice and welcoming. It will be nice to see the raised bed garden you build and plant in.
Many commenters have no clue about rural life!. A toilet requires expensive plumbing and a disposal field. In Canada at a summer/fall camp we used an outhouse . This is a building like Pavlo showed that has rotted & fallen down. A six foot deep contained hole with a small water proof building on top of it. Lime aids in the decomposing process and odor control.
Wise not to put outhouse near your well or the lake.
When I did timber cruising we used to smear lard infused with Citronella oil on our hard hats to repel mosquitoes. Very messy but effective. Most stores sell the coils like you showed beside Luba that also burn and emit Citronella. Some come on top of a sharpened stick for placing in your yard as needed. So nice to see the old rundown pace coming to life again from your hard work.💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻🤩🏆😎
I love the new brown color on the windows & front door.
The cut grass looks really good.
The flower bed will be beautiful, when it all blooms.
I love the improvements you have done, so far.
You both have done a wonderful job on this house! What a blessing it is for you! Especially when the world economy is hard and young people have trouble affording a house. I'm very impressed!
Pavlo is luckiest man in all of Ukraine to have the prettiest girl in all of Ukraine.
Yes.
I just love the colors you chose for the door.
Nice homestead. Wishing you all a great weekend.
If you have Impatiens flower plants in your country, they love the shade and hostas
Hello from Montreal, Canada. If you want to arrange your flowerbeds or the entry doors with insect-repellent plants, here are some plants: Lemon-scented plants/Cymbopogon citratus (lemon grass), Thymus citriodorus (lemon thyme), Lippia citriodira (lemon verbena), Pelargonium, Peppermint, Lemon eucalyptus, Calendula flowers, Lavender, Lemon basil. Good luck!
The color choices were much better than I expected. It is a very pretty house.
Hello from Texas. No war damage in your area? Glad you two are ok!
Loving it. When you pot the plants gently loosen the soil it comes in a little to help root spread before potting in bigger pot I find helps (:
Looks like a Quality built house. Lovely. I would like to buy a house in the Polish countryside.
Very lovely countryside.... greetings from Guyana( present oil rich country in South America).
Hopefully, Venezuela won't cross the border to get your resources like Russia did to Ukraine.
I love the abandoned house, you two have really done a lot of great things to bring it back to life, great job to the both of you 😎😎
Beautiful yard as project for improvement.. both landscape and hardscape project..
The house and grounds are looking terriffic. All your hard work has paid off very well.😊😊👍👍
❤❤❤МОЛОДЦІ ВІТАЮ ПОВАГА ВАМ ДОБРА ЗДОРОВЯ ПРОЦВІТАННЯ ПЕРЕМОГИ!!!
The colors of the house look great 👍Looks like such a lovey and relaxing place 🇺🇸❤ 🇺🇦
Lavander, rosemary, chrysanthemum,,, Against mosquitos
That was two days of work !
Well done!
Mosquito removal is quite simple
- no ponds or pools anywhere near the house.
- plant citronella and or rosemary around the outside walls of the house. (Look pretty and low maintenance)
- make & put hangon bug screens on your bedroom and living area windows.(can take them down n store them in the winter months.
- never leave any upturned buckets or anything that can collect water for the bugs to move into.
- stick up some bird boxes to encourage bug- eating birds in keep the bugs down.
- use plenty of bug dope if you're outside.
- if you sit out in the evenings or early Morning use a mosquito spiral !!!
If you use a bug zapper stick it way clear of the building - they are magnets for the bugs!
To keep the flies at bay
- rince your food packaging after use
- ideally, if it's only a weekend place take all your food waste home.
We do this and as best as possible we keep the bugs at bay at our cottage.
Put the outhouse downwind from the house and far from the well, preferably at a lower level than the well. But, you know your yard best and are the one to makes the best decision for you.
It’s looking great. So weird looking at these “normal” videos from a country that is at war Glad ye are ok. Love watching. From Ireland 🇮🇪
The house looks good, flowers, no more tall grass .. i like it 💪
The Place Looks Super !!!!! Glad To See You Are Well !!!!! Glory Ukraine !!!! Glory Hero's !!!!!
I read recently some plants that naturally repel mosquitoes
Basil, Citronella (especially in oil form), Lavender, Lemon Balm(which is a variety of mint), Lemon Thyme, Marigolds and Rosemary
So not only will they make some extra plants around the house, they can also be used for cooking
Hi Pavlo and Luba, wow, it's really looking lovely!! Your hard work has really paid off. The outbuilding has so many possibilities as an artist's studio, pottery studio, workshop, etc. or even convert it into extra living space. Glad to see you both looking so well, greeting from your friend in South Africa.
A beautiful house becoming a home. Congratulations.
Thanks for the update! 😊
Good Day !
GOT A CHAIN SAW ? PAVLO LOTTA WORK LETS GO
Plants such as geraniums, thyme, rosemary, lilies of the valley or chamomile can be grown in the garden or in pots and can deter insects from approaching
I enjoy watching your videos of your country home. It's a very nice and peaceful place. You both are so smart, hardworking, and talented. Praying for peace in Ukraine 🇺🇦.
You're young and healthy. Do it while you can. It looks awesome, y'all have worked hard.
i love that village catharopes
Oh, that beautiful Ukrainian soil 🤗. We just planted Petunias, Diplodenia (it's like a somewhat tropical vine with flowers) and tomato plants...all in containers on our deck, elsewhere is all forest and too shady. ❤️
Even in her working clothes, Luba still looks lovely..!! The cat on your roof is pregnant 100%..!! You definitely need to construct a new toilet before summer. Best wishes from Australia, Slava Ukraine..!!😘
Nice one guys. Luba is dressed like she's going to the Disco and she is digging the garden! Hope you're proud of yourself Pavlo! Kidding, love you both, take care and Slava Ukraine! 😄😄👍👍
Be careful with the poison ivy next to the outhouse!
I noticed that too!
Try planting a lot of mosquito-repellant plants in your flower beds and elsewhere in the garden. Catmint, Mint, Floss Flower (Ageratum), Sage, and Allium are just a few that might grow well in your climate.
That toilet outside the house is in english just called outhouse. (I'm german, still trying to improove my english.)
About the mosquitos: in Greece, they put thyme plants in pots at the windows inside. (Btw: it's actually pronounced "time", despite the th. I did that wrong for many years.) Little joke for Luba, while cooking could be: "just give me a little thyme to finish this dish."
I'm always in awe, when watching Luba cookking dishes on an open fire. Much into cooking. Most of my subscriptions are cooking channels. I actually found you both, watching a cooking video with Luba.
Slava Ukraini!
Good luck for the future,
Citronella candles or lamps help quite a bit with mosquito's. We also use a device called a ThermaCELL to keep them away. Plus we have used a electric bug zapper
You guys have done such a nice job fixing things up. That outhouse project won't be fun, but if anyones up to the task it's you Pavlo. Seems like your weather is very nice. Hope that helps in getting packages faster to you, including mine..LOL SLAVA UKRAINE!
Ya esta poniendose todo verde y las petunias se ven bonitas, saludos desde Mexico..Everything is already turning green and the petunias look pretty, greetings from Mexico
The improvements you have made are amazing... so much effort. I get tired just looking at the before and after.
Use mosquito repellent with "DEET" in it.
N,N-Diethyl-meta-toluamide, also called diethyltoluamide or DEET (/diːt/, from DET, the initials of di- + ethyl + toluamide),[1][2] is the oldest, most effective and most common active ingredient in commercial insect repellents. It is a slightly yellow oil intended to be applied to the skin or to clothing and provides protection against mosquitoes, flies, ticks, fleas, chiggers, leeches, and many other biting insects.
I would hire someone to till a huge garden and get rid of the grass mostly! Add a side building to the house for a bathroom!
Nice video man
If mosquitoes are from that pond, then there must not be any fish to eat them? And if there are no fish in the pond, and the outhouses are close to groundwater runoff during the rains down into the pond, then it might be the pond needs to be cleaned up. But what a charming summer house you and Luba have! You both are very hard workers!
The flowers accentuate the trim on the house 😎👍
For the outhouse. Use a plastic barrel that you can take out into the forrest and empty into a hole that you dig. If you decide to dig a hole under the outhouse you should keep at least 30 meters to the closest water well, with the ground sloping from the well against the outhouse. If the ground contains coarse sand, below 1 meters depth, you should have 50 meters. If the ground have a slope towards the waterwell you need longer distance, and it becomes even more dependent on the type of ground. Otherwise you might risk contaminating the waterwell. Keep a container with dead leafs in the outhouse and add some to the hole or barrel after using it.
Mosquitoes don't like anything citrus, garlic, or lavender. Also, tomato plants!
House is turning into a beautiful summer get away ❤
Hello you two ! you were very busy there. The house is great, the property is huge. I'm happy for you, you can always do something there if you feel like it and have the time. Stay healthy and safe. Greetings from Germany.🙋♂🙋
Nice home for the summer. You and Luba have alot of projects. What type of wild animals live in the area very many snakes.
The house and yard looks so beautiful!!! All your hard work is paying off
Another awesome vid! Stay safe!
The house and garden are fabulous..
You've done a wonderful job bringing it back to life..
Tiki torches with citronella spread out through the yard will help keep the mosquitoes away. The citronella candles will work much better around your sitting areas cause the tiki torches have the citronella oil so it’ll burn longer and have a much stronger aroma to keep mosquitoes away. There’s some environmental friendly products that you spray along the edge of the pond that will eliminate mosquitoes. These are a few ideas y’all might want to consider for your mosquitoes problem. Take care my friends and great videos.
your door looks great , It has stood up well over the winter , flowers make it look homie
Your house is looking lovelier all the time! I look forward to seeing the next developments. 💛💙
Hi guys, loved your video. The house looks really beautiful, love the colors you chose for the trim. Good idea in planting flowers. Nice to do some landscaping. You guys really worked hard on this house project. Looks very comfortable inside. Glad you guys are doing ok. Take care. 😊❤🇺🇦🌻
It’s great that all is good for you both and peaceful and the war and draft is not somehow affecting you both 👍
The house is looking very nice guys, Im painting mine, inside and outside, at the present. A lot of satisfaction looking back at the end of the days work. Keep on keeping on.
Thank you very much for sharing your life with us.
Citronella works really good. Can get in the form of oils to burn or candles/tiki torches for outside.
I love your video style and choice of music! Citronella candles are good against mosquitoes.😃
Thanks for sharing, it is so refreshing and wonderful beautiful to see your summerplace come to life, also all Ukrainians who try to live and build normal lives during very difficult times when your neighbouring orc country is trying to destroy everything..Our summerhouse(place where mom grew up in) in Finland the outhouse was across the lawn, too far away just place it at the back close so its easy to access from the front door or better make a real watercloset indoor toilet more work but its worth it since you have a watersource and pump. Слава Україні💙💛❤
Pavlo ты красавчик по жизни. Желаю вам благополучия 🙏🏻
And by the way, you guys have done a great job on the house. Looks great!
Христос Васкресе ! Wising you all the best Pavlo and family! Love to mamuska I babuska I your teta!❤️
Being from Florida I have mint, geranium plants and citronella plants and candles. Get water away from house, add fresh dirt if low. Screens on doors and windows and bug spray occasionally if humid and buggy.Love the property, but woody overgrown wet breeds bugs. Here we have huge palmetto bugs, like a massive roach that comes inside after a rain. Keep leaves away from home. Bust that block to smaller pieces. In Ukraine can you just move into abandoned people? Maybe I missed something about that.
Looking great outside!! You've both worked so hard already, don't give up on it, it's beautiful! Take care and Slava Ukraine 🇺🇦🇬🇧💗💗💗
Looks lovely guys and you both look so well. Love to you both from the UK.
Nice job!! Beautiful home!
it's a beautiful place guy's your'e very lucky
Mosquitoes: I am unsure if these are available for you in Ukraine, but Theramcell Patio Shield is fantastic. I take it tent camping and it keeps a full area of about 6m free of the biters. Pricey but extremely effective 👍.
Consider a composting toilet ln the house. Cedar chips and a small fan will make no odors.
Put fish in the pond they will eat the mosquito larvae, make sure there is no standing water around the house. And plant flowers and herbs that repel mosquitoes.
I will send you some tea tree oil you can put in an oil burner, they hate that.
I would put the toilet somewhere where it is easy to walk to in the winter if you ever decide to live there all year around, or if you sell it to someone who does. And the house and yard look great, what a difference from when you started last year! Good job!
Glad to see the progress on the little house. Very nice!
It's looking so good! Love the bench around the tree! Citronella for mosquitoes!
I can’t wait, for more videos of this house! Would it be possible to put the toilet inside the second building? Possibly with a door on the other side? It would protect your bottoms from mosquitoes and give you the beginnings of what we in the UK call, a granny annex 😂
The house looks beautiful!!!!
Love you Luba looking great 🥰 from Lancaster Amish country Pennsylvania 🇺🇸❤️
Hi fellows nice to see you at your old place Waseem tahir Nottingham uk 🇬🇧
