If that rope found on the horse really belonged to the guy who committed suicide, I think it was him. I can’t believe that a guy who’d already been convicted of rape and kidnapping was not in jail forever. Predators don’t change. Anyone who hunts another person down and rapes them is NEVER going to change and should NEVER be allowed back on the street again. Rape is a serious crime. It ruins the victim’s life, and when these rapists are let out again, they just learn to kill the victim so that they can’t testify against them.
Our justice is a sick joke.
I think it was him, same orchid chemicals, it was HIS own rope. Past history of rapes…but sadly suspicious an circumstances evidence isn’t enough.
I believe he lured her by talking to her and maybe built trust with her by talking to her every once in a while.
Problem is the events by witnesses saying it looked like she had been in a riding accident

I do think that man was guilty as well, the hairs found in his car, the rope, and the unneeded contact with the family is too much evidence. I don't understand why the police think he "most likely wasn't involved". This proves that their force isn't very competent in my opinion.
Totally the orchard guy! He put himself at the scene with her. His rope tied up the horse. Criminal background of rape and violence. Confessed at one point. Plus as an orchard worker he’d have plenty of places to bury her. Poor girl.
As someone who raised horses, I found this troubling. When I was a kid riding my horse down our country road a guy in a pickup truck had slowed down and said something about the horse. Very creepy vibe. Luckily a tractor came driving toward us and he took off. I never rode down the road again alone. Rest in peace Kirsa.
I'm female, used to ride alone. Learned to ride FAST just in case I had to. And of course horses can go into places trucks can't. That said, it's still risky. But I resent the idea that females can't and shouldn't be free to DO WHAT THEY WANT.

I'm from a country area as well, and used to go on long bicycle rides and nature treks as a teenager. It's an outrage that we women always have to be looking over our shoulder and be on the alert for creeps/potential assailants.

I am deeply sorry for your loss, and pray this case will be resolved, that the perpetrator is brought to justice, and may your beloved Kirsa be recovered, and returned. Until this precious child is found, your extended village carries this burden as an open wound on our hearts. Somebody knows something about the whereabouts of Kirsa! There is no doubt.

Kirsa was such a great teenager, she had been an excellent veterinarian. Her life stolen by a monster. So unfair.....I feel also so bad for their parents, they have not been able to bury her, they don't know where are her remains. So tragic. May God bless Kirsa's soul, nay God bless her dear parents
I remember this case. I live in Napier, just off Riverbend Road, opposite Colenso High School and remember the whole town searching the beach . Things like this didn't happen in my town back then - we still talk about it, especially at the moment because St. Augustine's Church has just been pulled down. I used to go riding all by myself as a kid. I never really thought about what could possibly happen, as I was a kid and I was invincible.
So sad for her family that there's no real closure.

I think it's possible that maybe someone spooked the horse, which bucked her off and caused her to hit her head, and she was abducted from there.
I was wondering if something like this happened to her as well. It makes sense considering the blood on her face.

So I'm from New Zealand and my friend got that scholarship in the late 2000's, the one etablished in Kirsa Jensen's honour and, tragically, she also died not just too young, but before she'd even turned eighteen. In fact, she died before she'd even started her studies: on her first day of her first O-week, in her first year of university, right before starting her studies at Massey in Veterinary Sciences.
Catherine fell from a rope-swing across a gorge, due to a worn rope that snapped as she swung out over the dry riverbed. She was a year ahead of me at Christchurch Girls' High (the same school featured in Heavenly Creatures and where Juliet Hulme & Pauline Parker went to school together), and I'd been in her brother's class every year, barring my first year, until I started at the same high school as her. Catherine and I played in orchestras together around the city, and sang in barbershop together, as well as both being writing & Latin clubs, taking the same subjects & being in the same house at school. We'd been voice-matched together in various choirs for about six years as we'd both received city choir scholarships four years in a row; we even roomed together every single year that our choir travelled for Big Sing (annual NZ high school choral festival). Catherine's dad, like Kirsa's, was also a religious leader, being the chaplain at Christ's College, and hers was (I believe) the last funeral to be held in Christchurch Cathedral (Christchurch NZ, not UK).
When Catherine fell, she didn't die immediately, not until two hours later. Knowing her injuries, knowing exactly HOW she died.... well, frankly, it's haunted me for the almost fifteen years it's been since her death. This girl I looked up to, this girl I sang next to, who mentored me through high school, who love Muse and played vinyl records with me in her messy room on Friday afternoons, who loved Lord of the Rings, wore a Fellowship of the Ring ivy leaf pin on her school blazer, and thought it was just the coolest that she knew someone who was a hobbit child in the movies (me)... it just haunted me that my dear friend died, and that she died so horrifically, so suddenly, in so much pain; how very unfair it was that she got everything taken away, that she never got to grow up, and live; that she's never got to show her kindness to the world, to be a positive influence on our community, that she never got to live her dream of caring for animals as a vet, just like she'd always dreamt of becoming. I used to have nightmares about her death weekly... right up until my final year of High School, when the first 2010 earthquake hit.
September of 2010 was when my whole city fell, like Catherine but, incredibly, no one died... until Feb 22 of 2011 when, in MY first day of university in Wellington when, in the first 20 minutes of my first lecture, I got a text from my dad saying goodbye, that buildings we collapsing around him, that people were dead, and that he loved me. I didn't hear from anyone I knew or loved until six hours later and I can't convey in words what I experienced. I genuinely do not understand what I did to deserve such blessings, but my dad was amazingly ok (physically) and, touch wood, will continue to be so. I honestly, and with all my heart, thank God every day he was ok.
For me, the struggle is with the knowing, and the most pain is the *not* knowing, and the knowledge that you'll probably never know. I've actually submitted a request for you to cover the case a while ago, because I don't even know where to start with it, but my dad's own mother died a suspicious death in 1987 (well before I was born). While it was ruled as an accidental drowning, it's unlikely that's what happened considering how she was found, and how she had no water in her lungs, and her defensive wounds. There is a lot more to go into with her death, but I just fear, in my heart, something like that happening to one or both of my parents or to my siblings, or friends or other family...
It's like Catherine's death opened the floodgates, for me: it wasn't just knowledge of events that had occured, or people telling me too much and not being able to get the graphic details out of my head, but for me remembering things that had already happened, as well as new trauma I'd (at that stage) had yet to live through.
It wasn't just the earthquakes, either: it was remembering my childhood friend telling me when we were eight about how he had a new name, because he his mother's murder, and how he remembered her head being "white and red inside her face" and how he touched her teeth that fell in the carpet and that his dad cut off his fingertip because he cried; the media circus around Catherine's death, and how life seemed to continue on without her and how unreal it was; those years upon years of the Christchurch earthquakes, as well as the aftershocks and the city-wide shared trauma, PTSD and fear around it all; having colleagues and friends die in both the Ashburton & Christchurch shootings; having my uncle be a first responder to the White Island disaster & him telling me about the stomach-turning details, despite me asking him to stop; my teenage brother throwing a full, steel bottle at my head and my parents accusing me of faking the bruises and scratches on my arms from him; being stalked in my early twenties by someone who I later discovered was a serial rapist, and the survivor's guilt that I was spared the same trauma of his other victims; working in road safety, and having to assist/testify in Coroner crash inquiries and having to not only see the scene autopsy but having to analyse them; being one of the only support people for my friend who would (could) listen to my friend, during the missing period and the aftermath of *her* ex-girlfriend (who was also best & oldest friend) being murdered, and being told, in vivid detail, of how this sweet, kind girl I'd met heaps of times was drugged, then brutally r*ped and assulted for three days, before being bludgeoned and strangled to d3ath; having an uncle die on Christmas Eve 2019 in an horrific train accident, two years after another close friend's father slipped crossing a ravine on a tramp, and what became of both of them, the gruesome manner in which they were found; my close friend being an RA at the hall where a 19 year old student was found in his hall of residence room... six to eight *weeks* after he died, by which stage he was so decomposed they have no idea how he died....
So ..well. please believe I'm not lying when I say I could go on. I've more than once wondered if I'm just some kind of bad luck to everyone around me, but.... I don't know what my point was in listing my traumas, but let's just say I have more nightmares these days than just Catherine's death, and at times it feels like I'll collapse beneath the burdens of survivor's guilt.
All this now said... while what I've personally seen and experienced is truly awful, and I'm aware of it, I nonetheless do still believe that there is no comparison to what happened--and still happens--to families like the Jensens. I cannot imagine what it is like to go through losing a child, and then never knowing what happened, what their last few moments were. I didn't know Jensens' story until this video, despite being a New Zealander, and words cannot express how much my heart breaks for them despite this being so many years ago. Losing those to whom we're close doesn't ever get better, even if years go by and you get used to it. My own mother's mother died five days before I was born, and while she was overjoyed to have me, it didn't stop the grief of seeing and nursing her mother, and her slow, painful death of cancer. I'm just so sorry this happened to Kirsa and her family, and I genuinely pray every day for those who have lost their dear loved ones, and for those who must forever live with the pain of not knowing.

Sounds like the rapist was likely the abducter/killer. He admitted to talking to her and then confessed to the murder and claimed ownership of the rope.. and had abducted people before! 😳 It would be strange if he was not the killer.

Mona Blades, another famous NZ missing person was last seen near Napier a few years prior in 1975. Two teenage girls vanishing in the same locality, both involving cars, seems pretty suspicious to me. Wonder if anyone's considered there might be a connection between Mona and Kirsa's disappearances before.

I was born in Napier and still live in New Zealand. This is a well-known case and still spoken of. The disappearance of Kiras Jensen is a story I've known since I was a child. I truly hope the mystery of what happened to her is one day finally solved

Hey there, may I suggest a video about the unsolved Victorian child murder of John Gill in 1888? The way the poor kid was killed led the press at the time believing that "Jack The Ripper" was involved.
I have never heard of the John Gill case but it sounds like something worth investigating.
The media at the time assigned any mysterious case between 1888-1900 to Jack the Ripper regardless of how ridiculous the idea was lol

Something about this case makes no sense... How could she have gotten to so many places in such a short amount of time? All these people kept claiming they'd seen her all over the place in the short time between 2:45 and 5:00 pm? I'm sorry, but seeing some girl randomly riding a horse through towns and villages seems to me like a very strikingly odd event that one wouldn't soon forget! Usually, people would ride a horse on a horse track or in an enclosed field. They wouldn't just gallop through town! And in my view, if all these dozens of people did actually see her, wouldn't they have better information to share with police in order to pinpoint her locations at specific times? Again, if I saw a girl riding a horse through my town, I would surely remember it for years to come!
This is such a sad story. I hope and pray her moms hearts wish can be met before she passes from this world. There may be no evidence she died, however, I don't believe Kirsa wouldn't have tried after so many years not to try to contact her family if she was still alive. I believe the man who committed suicide, hurt her in some way. And because of his selfish act, he took that secret to his grave. This just brought me to tears. Hold on to your blessings, and love them. For you never know if you have to go through the pain of losing a child. Too many families are going through this even now. And, it's horrible .

I will never forget this case. I was twenty years old and this was massive news here. Everyone here recalls the re-enactments of "Kirsa" walking "Commodore" along the beach and a lot of photos of this girl, who was abducted and murdered by, most likely though not conclusively, John Russell. I can only try to imagine her mothers anguish and hope she sleeps well, knowing she has done all she could.
I'd like to add to the list, Mona Blades (18yr old. Missing since 1975), Jennifer Beard (25 yr old holidaying Aussie school teacher,1969). Joanne Chatfield (aged 17, missing since 1996). Amber-Lee Cruikshank (2yrs old, missing since 1992) Kirsty Bentley who was murdered at the age of 15, New Years eve, 1998. Her body was found by some cannabis growers up in the area where their plot was located. They were concerned about the legality of their situation but felt that the police needed to know. So, as soon as the cops were given the information, they went and located Kirsty's body and then summarily arrested the two men that lead them to finding her.

I wonder if someone approached her asking if they could pet her horse, and she reluctantly did. I was told to never do that, ride away. You don't want to be rude to people, it's awkward but I wonder if he asked, then took her horse's bridle off. Of course, if you politely say no and take off, you can still have an accident. When I was her age and younger, if my fronds and I (usually just two of us at a time) saw suspicious people, we'd hurry back home. We didn't want to be rude if someone asked to pet our horses, but we'd get in deep trouble if strangers were with us. That horse defenitely (imp) would have had a fearful reaction to the perpetrator, especially knowing he was still very agitated when found. Did they see signs of an accident in the sand, like hoof prints somewhere indicating something happened? Or just the bridle pieces? That's so sad, she had a way of escape, but this person or people, were determined to get her.

Unfortunately, there is always the possibility of kidnapping for sex trade. She was a young cute blonde girl. So sad there has been nothing to give the family hope or closure.

That poor child and her grieving family. What a strong, great mother! I believe young Ms. Jensen was violently abducted, probably at gunpoint, and that the gunman (or gunmen) made threats against her beloved horse. Should these men ever be arrested, tried and convicted, the death penalty is far too merciful a punishment. I don't care what the New Testament says, we as human beings who value light and love GET TO JUDGE THESE PREDATORS.

I always heard growing up that the cops always thought she ended up either going through a near by bone meal plant or in to the floor of ravens down as the concrete was being poured

In my opinion Kirsa was raped & murdered. A lone teenage girl, without any or much money definitely wasn't a robbery. As to date, it's been 38 years Kirsa is missing. She's dead.

I am so sorry for kirsa and her family but I have to ask, what became of her belvoed Commodore?
I own and ride horses, I have for my entire life. We need to know more about the horse. What was she riding, english, western, or bareback? I would strongly assume she was riding english considering where she lived and that she was riding english in the photo. That's still just an assumption, as I ride western mostly but depending on the trail and if we're going to be jumping, I'd ride english or bareback depending on the height of the jumps. How was her horse's temperament? Was Commodore gelded? Was he a sound trail horse? Was he easy going or high strung? Did he have a tendency to spook easily? Did she ride with a helmet? Had he ever thrown her off before? Did he spook around people? Could a person spook him if they tried? These might seem random but these are questions that provided the answers to, would be very indicative of what could have happened to her.

A rapist will ALWAYS be a rapist. They will NEVER change. They just learn to kill their victims instead of leaving them alive. And rapists who commit suicide usually do so so they won't face trial. I think that orchard worker abducted, raped, and killed her, and because he took his own life, they may never find her.

I think perhaps that man tied her horse and got her in his van in pretense of taking her home. Terrible fate for this poor girl and family.
