A.J.Cronin was a successful doctor. In his early 30's he had a serious health problem, was hospitalized and was told to rest for 6 months. He used his recovery time to indulge a desire he had long hidden--writing. One bestseller followed another, and he never returned to medicine. So, dear friends, whenever you are greeted by some apparent misfortune, remember that it might actually just be a doorway to good fortune. Good fortune, bad fortune---who really knows. Perhaps, we, and God have something to do with how it turns out.
One of the best movies Peck was in. The other is when again as a Msgr in the Vatican how he saved Jews from the nazis I think the movie was Scarlet and black or something like that.
I really and truly did enjoy this movie. All Gregory Peck movies are great, a man that was made for the screen. G. Peck and a few actors, became my favorite, I try my best not to miss a movie with them. All the great actors of yesterday, have gone to the great beyond. All we are left with is memories.
❤AGAPE to y'all ❤ I was greatly moved by this show. It never ceases to amaze me how God uses everything and everyone for his glory. Lined with tears and laughter.... This is one of the best movies made involving the Catholic church. Thank you so very much for the upload!🎉
How I enjoyed this movie! As a Protestant, it was heartwarming & encouraging to hear the tolerance of the priest, which Gregory Peck played……..he was/is RIGHT!! ……no matter WHICH denomination/ religion we each belong to! This movie truly was scriptural.🙏💜 Jesus saves, with mercy & grace…….John 3:16 is true 🥀
Wonderfully done drama within the timeframe of 1944. Sort of a Classic within itself. Well done. Perfect for a slightly wet, Sunday afternoon in a humidly warm, New England Day. Fit the 'bill' for a simple, good movie to enjoy. Helps me to forget the turmoil of 2024. Thank you.
First time I have seen this movie, thanks for posting. I was quite moved by it and saddened by our treatment of each other. It is plain to see why God hates pride and arrogance in both "religious" and "non-religious" people.
Which one? He's done a ton of movies. To Kill a Mocking Bird always stands out for me and him as General Douglas MacArthur is another. But I agree, worth watching. Pork Chop Hill and...Look him up.
@@critter3673 "To Kill a Mockingbird" was his greatest role in my opinion. However, I loved every movie he started in. I was very touched by this movie, even though I found his performance too stilted and formal for my taste. It was probably the way it was directed. It was produced in an era when movies dealing with religious matters were handled very carefully so as not to offend any viewers. To me, such movies never felt realistically portrayed.
Oh I've got to watch this again, maybe it's my ninth or tenth viewing of it. I always find something different to love about it. Such an extraordinary performance by Gregory Peck so early in his career, and of course the supporting cast is splendid too. I had never seen Rosa Stradner before, and was very impressed with her dignified, moving portrayal of a nun from an aristocratic background struggling to find true humility.
Another heirloom movie 🎥 about all of Us here on Earth 🌍 are to be servants to each other ❤ Gregory Peck performance in magnificent in that roll🌹🙏🥰 Thanks for sharing such a great movie 🍿
OMG! WONDERFUL MOVIE! the 1st time I ever saw this movie! What a true treasure! Our Blessed Savior Jesus Christ said the Greatest Commandment is Love thy Neighbor as thy Self! God Bless each and every one ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
My exact thoughts! What an amazing movie that has the most truest depiction of Catholics and many of our struggles, doubts, and joy. Let All Mighty God have His way!
a tear-jerker...the kindness and love portrayed in GP's character in a life of ministry towards people for the sake of the Word of God, the Gospel, was like seeing a small glimpse of the love and kindness in the ministry of the Lord Jesus Christ Himself during His days on His earth.
Thanks for this upload. I, personally, think this was Gregory Peck’s best role up to this time. It’s always been one of my favorites. So many of his movies contained an important message, and he was always able to communicate it with his impeccable performance(s). This movie is always a blessing every time I see it.
This truly is an excellent and endearing movie with an excellent cast of actors. I remember seeing it for the first time in my early teens on the Bill Kennedy t.v. show that was produced in Windsor, Ontario and seen by Metro-Detroit viewers. ❤❤❤😂
I find it curious that as a dedicated agnostic, I find comfort in films like this and The Bells of St. Mary's. I have said many times that the world would be better off without religion, without a god or prophet that people kill in the name of, but I also realize that some people just need a simple explanation for questions that they cannot answer, and religion purports to provide those answers. Even if I disagree with those answers, I realize that without them, most people would live in an unmoored sort of existential terror, and I wouldnt want them to live that way. People deserve peace, in whatever form they can receive it.
A splendid story, exceptional film. How The Church needs 1,000s of St. Francis of Assisi-like priests as Fr. Chisolm. A bonnie good pastor of souls and disciple of Jesus Christ was he!
Wonderful movie, so well acted. This story of Father Francis Chisholm shows just how good people could be in a world where it seems an impossibility. We can but hope there will come day when........
A beautiful movie! A true reminder of how to live in Christ. It isn't about conversion, but how one lives as an example of Jesus!! I hope I said this correctly... 😊
I appreciate the point when the Mandarin lord offers to get converted and inflence his people get converted priest refuses as can't Convert people in lieu of services rendered! So Mandarin offers his fields to priest. This totally in contrast to India to give some help to people and convert huge masses of people ! Now they own prime land the cost of which exceeds the arms budget of the nation and believe me it's huge😮
What a wonderful movie! Gregory Peck performed superbly! Needless to say, tears flowed from my eyes at the end! ❤️ Loved this movie and thank you for sharing.
As delightful and charming as this movie is, and as it captures the Catholic Church’s traditions very well, still unfortunately both the movie and Catholic Church falters on the Main Character of all our lives- the Lord Jesus Christ, my Savior and Lord. Not to be harsh in my comments, but rather to lift high the Name that is above every other name- King of Kings and Lord of Lords. The Catholic Church has relegated Jesus to mere side note. When He is mentioned, He is referred to in a generic term as in Lord or God. At the Name of Jesus Christ every knee shall bow and every tongue confess that He is Lord over all. Following this, it was also sad to see the rich Chinese man, who gave the land to build the building for the church, be denied an opportunity to hear what the Gospel of Jesus Christ really is. Sure, the rich man is not worthy to become a Christian. Truth be told, no one is worthy, but rather every Christian must first become a sinner first before becoming a born again Christian. The missionary priest Chisholm has the opportunity to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ but failed to do so, thus allowing the rich Chinese man to die in his sins and suffer for eternity in Hell. Romans 10:10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. 12 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. 13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. 14 How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? 15 And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things! 16 But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report? 17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. When Jesus is mentioned in the Catholic Church, He is a footnote to the Eucharist and mostly to emphasize His suffering and death on the cross. His burial and triumphant resurrection is mentioned as a mere afterthought instead of being the central teaching of the Bible and His Body, the Church, the Bride of Christ.
Gregg's. Feeling Peckish Gregory ? Man shall not live by bread alone. But by every word that comes from the mouth of God. Meditations of Thee. Chihuahua said Geordie .😊
I learned that the reason ‘we’ all had similar ‘Anglo’ accent Across ocean was when talkies began the English teachers were all from England. A lot of actors we assumed British growing up American and Canadian.

I can't believe that people hated us Catholics so much!!! To this day, n I am 67 yrs old, people STILL are uncomfortable n challenging towards Catholics, as I have seen it first hand!!!! Whatever happened to JESUS law of " love the neighbor as thyself!"
I love this movie, for its message. But just can't help to think that he mislead Nora. Women were created to be bonded to a man which he lead her to believe he was to her....even if it was questionable. He left her directionless, a boat without a sail, leaving her to be taken advantage of by an evil do-er
Wonderful movie and Gregory peck has given his very Best to this movie... And Vincent price acting as a priest 😮 that's unbelievable ???? Usually he does the villains part 😮 Thank yousoo much for uploading this movie😊
I love the beginning exactly what the Pope has done today thinking you have the tell a person who has given his life to God and does the teaching of the Catholic Church and most of all the only thing that really matters The Commandments of God and the Testimony of Jesus Christ
What an awesome, incredible and powerful movie, loved it. 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼. Really enjoyed this film. Love Gregory Peck !
Thank God for TH-cam so that we can see these great old movies!!
Gregory Peck was only 28 when he played the role of this aged priest. He was a remarkable actor in many respects. :) This movie touched my heart.

Tremendous movie. Gregory Peck at his best.
While the world was still at War. Millions of people dying. Suffering. But USA made films as normal
One of the best performances of Sir Gregory Peck...really a classic one...thanks for uploading❤
Excellent. Who is General Wade? What year was this Chinese War? 1920s
