A nice movie that takes me back to the times when I enjoyed watching these old movies on Saturday afternoon. Thankfully I can still enjoy this feeling again, very nice.
Far prefer movies from the 40s 50s & 60s far more than anything before or since. Excellent storytelling, wardrobe/fashion, lighting, filming and above all, acting.
In the Fiji islands even in the 80s it was very much the same. Until 2000 the coup d'etat on Parliament. I was there four times. I like this movie but it also makes me very sad that this thing continues. Very close to the truth. England expansionism. Bellefonte Elegante. Mr Mason when you're a bad guy you are really good bad guy.
Wonderful movie . Makes you uncomfortable watching the parts about the racial problems as they were much more socially aware at that time . Actors have done a good job of their roles.
45:15, Joan Collins drives a Jaguar XK140 roadster from St George's Grenada to Farley Hill mansion in St. Peter, Barbados. Must be one of "them thar' amphibibious vehicles", Lol!
I saw this movie in a theater when it first came out. I clicked on it today to see the opening montage . . . one of the most beautiful I'd ever seen . . . a plane coming over the island with stunning scenes of beaches, palm trees, waves, all the colors of this beautiful place, accompanied by the incomparable Harry Belafonte singing "Island in the Sun". That opening is no longer, instead creepy "music" and scenes that don't belong. This opening song is probably so tied up with a copywrite laws now that it can't be used anymore. What a shame! I will now comfort myself with my Harry Belafonte LP. Sheesh!!!
It doesn't matter how he presents it. The screen credits are, starring James Mason Joan Fontaine, Dorothy Dandridge, Joan Collins, Michael Rennie followed by the rest of the cast and Harry Belelafone as David Boyer.
Туземные девушки задирают юбки , чтобы привлечь богатых американских туристов. Это 1957 год, белые девушки носят шляпки и перчатки. Им полагается быть скромными.
Except that they aren’t native girls, other than in the sense that they were born there , which would apply to both races. The native race or the indigenes , was , I think, a sub group of American Indians. So called, because Christopher Columbus logged them in his report to Queen Isabella as “ The children of God” ( los nińos in Dios ) …. However , I agree with your observation.
I'm up to 10 minutes, but the music keeps making me suspect this movie is about giant jungle spiders, and they're about to drop onto the people in every scene. WHEN is the first jump-scare finally going to happen, for goodness sake!!!
I had pizza for dinner tonight. Tomorrow, I will smile at strangers. Now where did I put my electric tooth brush? Oh never mind, it's over there next to the turnips.

Visually beautiful - lovely scenery
I thought I had seen all of James Mason's films, somehow missed that one! I could of watched it in mute just for the outfits, cars and furniture!
For its Time, this was an Interesting Film, Talented Cast, and Fascinating Script.
Loved Harry Belefonte,s Island movies.
I really can't believe it has taken me this long to partake of the dish this movie has been. So we'll done!

Good movie
WHOS DOIN THE ALTO SAX SOLO DURING OPE CREDS ? Sounds like Ornette or Dolphy, Sam Rivers ...not credited

❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏👍👍👍👍👍
James Mason was miscast for this movie. He's as old as his parents. Ridiculous. But a good movie other than that.
My country is my skin, yes my skin is Ireland
😂
Heh, my country is Australia, but my skin is Ireland, too.

Filmed in Barbados and Grenada.
Thank you for the information! I was definitely curious!

At 44:30 Miss Dorothy Dandridge dancing under that limbo stick !

Agreed. I remember the original opening. This music is just horrendous.
The best Joan Collins performance ❤
Fabulous on every level: setting music brilliant convincing acting story/plot....thoroughly captivating entertainment.
Love Harry Belafonte❤
Beautiful movie, setting and music.
The book was very good read too.
Las locaciones que escogieron para filmar son tan hermosas ❤
I have seen this before, but it was wonderful watching it agan.❤❤❤❤❤
I think this movie was banned in parts of the U.S. shortly after it was released.
THANK YOU GREAT MOVIE.
It was awesome to watch. So real in places, some things still the same! I truly enjoyed it. Awesome cast.
Visually beautiful - lovely scenery, but the movie is complete rubbish.
Those were the days you could go just about anywhere in the world and not be accosted.
Proverbs 10:30. There is hope.
The music is horrific
So many commercials. Ridiculous!
Take Viking West Indies ocean cruise will get there.
Beautiful islands and good food.
DAMN, THE MUSIC IS OMINOUS. WOW. Weird.
It’s Joan Collins and Fontaine
Good movie.

Very beautiful. Thanks Greatest Hits VH channel.
James Mason is the star of this movie. But you present his name last. Hmmmmm

The realities of humanity and colonialism...
Give me a break...
You understand this is a movie? Not a documentary? Do you have some form for mental handicap?

I think the we original music was different. Harry Belafonte singing.
James Mason should know, you can't strangle a man to death thay quickly.
'that' quickly.
Relax! … poetic license. It’s only a performance.
It wasn't up to James Mason to know. It was up to Robert Rossen the director to know.
🇺🇦💙💛👍💐
