Without fail about 99% of them were incorrect unless they were picking a single stock and fully explaining why it was going to go down. I do taxes and recently had a client tell me that their financial advisor steered them away from investing in their 403b. They have a high tax liability each year so I suggested the 403b as a way to generate tax savings. Is there ever a circumstance where a person should only invest post-tax dollars and steer clear of investing pre-tax dollars to help generate tax savings?

    If you put growth-oriented assets in a Roth and conservative assets like fixed income in a tax-deferred account, doesn't that prevent you from being able to rebalance your assets regularly? How are you supposed to keep your asset allocation in check?

    • @michiganabigail
      @michiganabigail 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have my stuff in a retirement mutual fund that’s geared towards retirement in a specific year. The fund will switch more of its assets from high-risk, high-reward stock to more stable bonds as we approach that year.

    • @Mawyou
      @Mawyou 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@michiganabigail Yeah I like target date funds too. I was just responding to something Bryan said about putting different types of assets in different types of retirement accounts to maximize the money you make, while also controlling your risk and minimizing taxes.
      Seems like it would be hard to make that strategy work in practice since stocks will grow much faster than bonds and you can't rebalance regularly back to your preferred risk level because they are in different types of accounts.

    • @jeffj7608
      @jeffj7608 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      So you're right that's a concern. But it's unlikely your account type balances will exactly match your desired allocation anyway. So the account with "extra" money will have a mix of asset types. And then you can just rebalance in that account.

    • @jonmacdonald7140
      @jonmacdonald7140 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I wouldn’t say they are always trying to sell you something, but they are looking to advantage themselves somehow. The question is if it will be at your expense. For example TH-cam creators get paid for your attention (ad revenue) others ARE looking to sell to you. Or like these guys said, they are trying to get future clients who will pay them then, if you get to the wealth level to need them!

    • @rickchandler2570

      @@jonmacdonald7140 Yeah I wasn't being literal about that. I just mean that they have their motives and it's usually financial. My previous financial advisor didn't want me to pay off my house (I'm 52 and close to retirement) and talked about lost opportunity and all that. Makes more sense to pay it off and be debt free going into retirement vs the little bit of return I'm going to get in the market. But the way I look at it is they aren't looking out for me as much as they are looking out for more revenue for them by managing a larger portfolio. I guess I'm cynical.

    • @mattbenz99

    I get the principle of putting money in a 401k but guys you have absolutely no control over future taxes and rates aren't guaranteed every year. Why wouldn't you suggest infinite banking? You get a guaranteed 4-6% compounding growrh every year. You can borrow against your cash value for even more investments without interrupting your compounding growth , plus you get a guaranteed death benefit. Why lock away all that money in a 401k for years that is only doing one job, at the perils of changing taxes and no individual control. These are things you need to highlight in your show.

    According to everything you see on line about where you should be in your age group . Compared to the market average. I am no where close to those numbers. And yet when I talk with my financial advisor based on average market trends According to the Monty Cristo graph. He is projected a net worth of 4.5 mil working to the age of 65 assets are 60% roth 40% pre tax . Running the same calculations On a dozen different retirement calculators I get an estimated result of 3.9 mil to 5 mil . The changes are based on market returns not deposited amounts . Can I trust this number . Do I need to invest more , current invested % is 15% + 6% match wife and I started at 30 and 32 current age 37 and 39 .
    My question is now that we are hitting our 40s do we need to adjust what we are investing in order to hit our goal of a modest income. In our retirement years all we want is 65 k a year in today's dollars. That ends up being on a 4% draw = 140k a year . Have rainy day fund of 6 months, carry no debt month to month, have 4% so far for a down payment on a house of 3.2x our annual income. Retirement is based solely on our investments no s.s. no other sources of income .
