Really appreciate the professional awareness walking simultaneously with a lack of ego with this convo. Know what you're talking about and be confident but don't be out over your skis with this thing we do. Made me a fan.
40:02 I am in college and stumbled on this channel a few weeks ago and I love it. I am a lumix fanboy, but I love these talks as well. I love hearing about your experiences in the industry and how you think about cameras. Also I appreciate the upload schedule too!
I stumbled over this channel when you two made this video about the 5D mark III isn't FHD. This was answering a lot of questions. It was a great example that you better not trust what something pretends to be and that it is better to check things out and learn how to see such things.
A lot of companies that are still moving are doing a lot of the things you’re talking about. A lot of the production companies that use to be on top in my area aren’t anymore. We pull up with a grip van and kit and keep things affordable and we’re busy. Cool convo and enjoyed this
I run a video production company and we handle clients, contracts, storyboards, filming, lighting, audio and editing. I call myself video producer. Videographer to me entails just the camera the side and we all do so much more. So video producer seems more fitting.
Yeah I don't colour skin tones accurately, because I want it a little more red and orange on purpose. Most movies, TV series don't colour things accurately. This is to set a mood quite often. Making film is like being an artist. Your composition/lenses/colours are your paintbrush. Being colour accurate or not is a creative choice. You just need to know what you want to achieve. Examples are teal and orange. When you light a scene, is it natural, or natural colours, of course not! I film live events, so I call myself a event videographer. Or wedding videographer! I agree, flashy transitions, over bokeh, etc is overdone. I have seen customers want less flash, and just a watchable video where they can just see what is in the picture.
Saw the whole thing. Lots of great insights in here. Agree with a lot and disagree with others. I started with an s5, got an S1H & eva1. That was a step up in quality for me, maybe not worlds apart but it was. Got a gh6 and really learned to like mft. Today I use a GH7 & BGH1 for video and a G9ii for photos. Those are my most used cameras and I use them on certain projects or monthly retainers mainly going to social media. I also have a pair of komodo 6ks. I use them when the project calls for. Yes they are rigged up, yes I can shoot a project on mft, but for me the image quality stands out and it becomes easier to get a look that I see in my head. The camera stays out of my way because I don't need to worry about camera settings, I can just shoot-get it close & fix later. It's a different experience & clients get happy when they see the reds, the easyrig, the gimbal & lights. More work but for me, the experience is different. Komodo is no way my everyday camera lol just a tool I use along with mft.
Great Talks! By the way some non really pro plugin are actually great like neat, filmconvert Haze, cinematch… It is doing the job extremely good specially like myself shooting multicam live with mixed cam and lens mostly lumix MFT FF and P4k 6k. Hybrid is great and you can get great sub 2k camera footage with ProRes braw with top IQ… My job is to make classical music, jazz and blues performer, shows, operas better than live performance with tricks and low budget gear and it is what I am good at. At the end the result of the work is the most important not the tools…
For the service industry I think we will stoop to camera man because a lot of our clients search by that terminology. The average restaurant owner who wants a commercial doesn’t know what a director of photography is to google it, in their area.
Guys, I don't have an on-camera monitor, I have my s5. Can you suggest an app that can display video from the s5 on my android tablet? So that the tablet broadcasts what I'm filming via Wi-Fi, what app would you recommend?
Imo, one of the main reasons Open Gate is misunderstood and underappreciated is due to its own branding. Even the people who understand it don't see it's direct correlation to its name "Open Gate." I've always thought Lumix should rebrand it to something like "Full Sensor Video" or "Full Sensor Recording"- simple and straight to the point. It's also a subtle dig at other companies in that it lets consumers know "hey, Sony and Canon don't let you use your full sensor for video, isn't that weird?" It's a feature that lumix really should brag more about.

Lumix has an app called Lumix Sync that has that functionality
