  • Hiking to beautiful Sawtooth Lake & Alpine Lake in Stanley, Idaho via Iron Creek Trailhead. This is a very popular hike in the Stanley area. We heard it was one of the best if not THE best day hike to do while visiting!

    We used to spend time every summer in the Sawtooths. Now in Florida, i cherish my opportunities to go back and visit, which is every 3 years or so.

    My old stomping grounds you should see that lake in the middle of summer and its just one of many great hikes in the area. The Sawtooth mountains have a lot of wild mountain goats but not usually tamed goats i have seen videos where some people put saddle bags on tame goats and use them as pack mules

    This was awesome video, gorgeous filming, thanks for making it. I'm definitely going to spend more time in Idaho. I blew by Stanley while on a trip from Missoula, MT to Sun Valley, ID as me and my son followed the Salmon river off Hwy 93. After seeing your video I really wished I hadn't moved so fast and had stopped to check out Sawtooth Lake, et al.

    Folks here breed those goats and train them as pack animals. A friend uses them (without bells) for hunting. Unlike using horses or mules, he doesn't have to bring fodder, and the goats follow the lead and tend not to roam. When he gets an animal, they help him haul it out.

    They are pack goats! They are commonly used for packing camping gear and hunting.

    It was in the 90s on Sunday when I hiked it. Gorgeous hike but I would have liked it better if we're cooler weather.

      Ugh, as someone who hates hiking in the heat I feel for you! It reached the 80s the day we did it but as you heard it was very cool in the morning.

    Goats make good pack animals people use and train them in the mountain trails.

    I didn’t hear a mention of the campground. Is that Iron Creek Campground? Any idea of RV length limit there?

    • @WorkinfortheWild
      @WorkinfortheWild  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi! It's actually Lake View campground right on Stanley Lake. We really lucked out with that spot. That particular site couldn't fit much more than our size (18.5ft), but they have larger sites where we saw big rigs.

    Thinking about backpacking to this area next week. Are there campsites/ areas to put a tent up at Alpine lake? I’ve read that Sawtooth lake has limited areas for tents, so was thinking about Alpine lake.

    • @WorkinfortheWild
      @WorkinfortheWild  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Awesome! We did see backpackers tent camping in both areas -- Alpine & Sawtooth Lake. But I couldn't tell you the exact number of sites for each area. Alpine was so relaxing

    What date if the year it was? Want to venture to Sawtooths this summer, not sure if June is good time.

    • @USATAZZILLA
      @USATAZZILLA 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Wait till July still lots of snow there. I will be going up there on may 28th for 10 days. and plan on going back after that trip for another 10 days and rinse and repeat for the whole summer. I try and get 100 miles of hiking each month from May - Oct up there. This trip will be short distance hikes based on the lower snow elevation. I will hit sawtooth lake trail and if lucky might make it in 3 miles but highly doubt that will happen with the current snow levels

    I don't think drones are permitted at Sawtooth national ground.

    • @WorkinfortheWild
      @WorkinfortheWild  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey! Drones are not permitted in the wilderness area, you’re right. We didn’t fly there. There are plenty of signs saying it’s a “no drone zone”. We flew within the national forest, where we were camping.

    Oh it's because goats outnumber you there

  • @user-dz3gz4pm5d
    @user-dz3gz4pm5d 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

    When you see goats anywhere, they should be higher and in rocky spots, with horns. If not, you doing something wrong.
