I've always said that it's actually a drama, not an action movie. A man who has a family that thinks he's dead and he's trapped in steel and can't do anything about it.
But to anyone who doesn't understand scifi it can appear to be a tacky throwaway action gore movie for young viewers but its so much more than that, the cinematic detail in the movie is remarkable and the satire and chemistry off the charts, its also one of the darkest action movies ever made, nothing in this league being made nowadays, the last one was probably District 9.

What sells it for me after the "Dead or alive" line is the way Paul McCrane plays Emil's reaction. At first he's thinking "Those words sound familiar" but in a matter of seconds he remembers were he heard them and goes into a full on panic, thinking that Robocop is the ghost of Alex Murphy.

@@meisterlymanu5214 Starship Troopers was ok. But no where near approaching the same league as Robocop. That film works on so many different levels it's a miracle of filmmaking. It's one of the reasons I say the 80's was America's renaissance. Because the amount of creativity that went into so many films of that era were nothing short of genius.
My dad was a cop and when I saw that scene it scared the living daylights out of me that the same would happen to my dad. I used to beg him not to go to work for about a month after I saw the film. It was a great film though! Think I was 9 when I first saw the film

The book has a little more insight into what he was seeing ,and thinking. At the end he thinks,will I have to watch my friends get old and die while I go on?
Excellent framing. Excellent layering. Excellent lighting. Film grain 🤌🏿 impeccable. The sound is excellent. This no name actor is really good at delivering his lines. Everything about this scene is excellent 👌🏿

Media is gradually being more and more turned over to the common man, so saying we'll never see great movies like this again is maybe an exaggeration. It just won't come from major studios, but rather independent creators.
0:46 onwards....the score turns into a such a suspensful masterpiece......it really got you to emote with the feelings of a robot......and especially another scene....when anne lewis says Murphy its you
They don't make movies that really grip you like this anymore. Where you feel the confusion he does when he keeps replaying the "we killed you" part over and over again.
He couldn't get the wallet from his pocket and find out who he was? This could have saved 3 hours from the entire movie 😮 And look at the CGI of the explosion, the fire, the guy hitting the car at full speed and the landing still better than today's computers😮
This movie is the definition of decades before it’s time. This and Predator came out in 1987 and still hold weight in modern times
