When I was a kid, I did not know much about batting stand but when I saw Griffey. I started imitating his batting stand. To me, the best, beautiful batting stand and swing of all time.

His aunt was my mom's hairdresser and my mom cleaned the aunt's house here in northeast Ohio when Jr made it to the show. He would come his Aunt's barbecues when the Mariners were playing the Indians and shoot hops with all the neighborhood kids. Autographed my glove and a card for me there when I was 11.

I literally worshipped KGJR as a kid. He was God in my eyes. I lived in TN as a kid and had no local team. So when he went to the Reds every summer my Dad took me to watch Ken Griffey Jr.

During summers my brother worked as a waiter for a private high end country club. Ken Griffy Jr came in with a couple people. The bill was $700 and he tipped my brother $1000.

Ken is really one of the most talented baseball players of all time. He embodied professionalism on and off the field and put the time in to be great instead of shortcuts. Look at the golden gloves in the background along with the hitting titles without the dope.
I love hearing Ken Griffey Jr speak. I like seeing him in the public eye, it's really cool to see him out and talking, so many people look up to him.
Ken was so fun to watch. An incredible combination of power, speed and athleticism. He just made it look so easy!

Just having the most HR’s doesn’t make you the best player. All the baseball analysts say Ruth because he was the best pitcher and hitter at one point during his career while not only hitting for power but also average .342 over his career. Ruth lost multiple years to pitching early in his career so if he had never pitched he would have 900+ homers. With or without injuries he wouldn’t have been better than Mays and definitely not better than Ruth 😂

Total class act....I remember in the early 2000, the Mariners were playing the Giants in SF. My daughters school was singing the National Anthem at the stadium. They were on the field, behind second base. After singing, no one from the Giant's came out to congratulate the kids (pretty sad), but one player came out from the opponents dugout....Ken Griffey Jr...he came out and hi-fived each and every one of the kids. A total class act.

Man, Ken Griffey jr. transcended just baseball. I remember growing up in the 90s, me and the kids around our neighborhood didn’t watch baseball but we all had his shoes! Legend.
I love hearing Ken's perspective because I feel like I never hear him in interviews. I almost wish he had more to say. Not even on some naming names hype, but moreso his interpretations of the times and how he was feeling and thinking about the era he was in. There was so much happening. Still though, it's nice hearing a humble perspective from a great from those times.
All of us kids in the 90s wanted to be like Ken on the baseball field, such a cool kid with the backwards ball cap, constantly chewing gum and blowing big old bubbles, all the Gold Gloves and the greatest swing of all time....

@@ryann.9636 Barry only had one season of 50+ HR seasons which was his record season in 2001.
He was actually 2nd in HRs in that strike-shortened season, 3 behind Matt Williams. I think he would've come up a few dingers short, since he had 40 through 112 team games that year, but it was going to be another crazy total like 55+.
It sucks that the turf in Seattle shortened his career. It would be interesting to see how his career stats would be had he played for a team with natural grass field. His swing was perfect.
Nah I think what shortened his career was his tendency to constantly crash into walls trying to catch fly balls. The turf may have made him slower though

His career was cut short because Jr didn't like the conditioning part of body maintenance, especially after age 29... I saw Ken Griffey, Jr. in a hotel lobby in downtown Denver. I remember thinking he was much bigger and taller than I originally thought. These guys are around such physical specimens it’s easy to think they’re smaller than other players, but they’re still much bigger and stronger than the typical athlete - let alone the average person.
Griffey Jr was my idol when I was a kid!!! I had his poster on my wall and just loved how he played, such a class act person who probably should've had 700+ homers had he stayed healthy

IMO Ken Griffey Jr. was the best pure baseball player I ever saw. One of the BEST defensively and offensively. Swing was the prettiest swing ever. Poetry in motion.

Look at those gold gloves! I remember doing Jr's batting stance among many others growing up playing whiffle ball. And I'll never forget in 1991 in Oakland when he was going through the tunnel after a Mariners A's game, he gave all of us kids high fives as he walked up the tunnel. A great guy. A legend.
I got a special place in my heart for Ken Griffey jr. Till this day hes still my favorite player. If he played today I would probably watch a MLB game.

I loved watching Ken Griffen play. You could tell he loved the game.
Ken Griffey Jr. did it the right way. I was lucky enough to be able to witness his career. He has more integrity than my favorite player growing up has: Mark McGwire.
I was born in 1980 and was a very average youth ball player. KG JR was one of my top 5 favorite players as a kid and this interview just makes me like him even more. What a solid dude, class act all around.
Griffey , Jeter, Chipper Jones all played the game the right way.. Respect too all 3
