@@kylekullin2520 Hey don't come around here no more, but Let's roll another joint And you don't know how it feels, because It's good to be king and have your own way 🤣
I don't know about hayseed, although I have hauled hay, but us people in southeast Texas and east Houston can relate to Rodney's songs. Especially Telephone Road.
First heard this in prison. A year prior, I had broken my wrist in a conveyor belt at a sawmill, small settlement came through a month after getting locked up. (Holy shit how country does my life sound!) So I bought a clear tv. Stayed on CMT waiting for this song. Always came on when I was due somewhere, but I listened first. Brilliant song. Much more meaning than seems on the surface.
Somewhere he had kind of a 'rebirth' of energy and started putting out some really good stuff. This was one of those real gems. He has done a lot of quiet, contemplative stuff, but here you have a Crowell gem where the tune is upbeat, energetic, and yet the message is in the lyrics. Pretty hard not to feel the joy in this one.
I was born in the 60's great tunes. Still here August 2024!!! Ear buds in blasting that music and locked the world outside. The 80'S and 90's were the best many great memories.
Sometimes, when people find out I am an atheist, they tell me something to the effect that, "it must be very sad believing that when you die, that's it." So, I simply quote them Mr. Crowell: "Someday I'll be leaving/But I just can't help believing that its not...to...day!!!" If they are intrigued enough to ask, I then tell them to go listen to this song, for this is my spirituality. Love this song!
Rodney comes from the HEART of Nashville Songwriting. Yeah, he was Band director for Emmylou Harris and married Johnny Cash's Daughter Rosanne, but before all that he hung out with Guy Clark, Townes Van Zandt, Steve Earl and all the Legends when he first got to town. God gave him the Gift, put him in the spot to grow, and we all get happy.....:)
@@rodneycrowell745 I traveled from Myrtle Beach to Gruen Music Hall to see you on your China berry Sideworks tour. I'm kinda sick now but hope to see you again! When I get better I want to make a doccumentary on what I call Meaningfull Music. Let me know if you Caan make time in the next few months...
YASSS!!! I just found the song I've been looking for for TEN YEARS!!!!!! I haven't heard it since I moved in Fall 2006, & have scoured the earth for a DECADE!!!! Going through old boxes, saw a cassette. Put it on & this song started playing! You have no idea how HUGE this is for me!!!!! :'D
love the beat of the drums and the rest also but without a great drum to keep beat things get wacky. I was on a flight from Nashville TN to L.A. once and he was on the same flight. I said hello Rodney he said hi back. talked briefly and told him I was also in the film/video biz. He asked what my name was I was called by, I said 'Banzai" and got that film crew name from an old Japanese lighting director once. he smiled and said I've heard that name a time or two. good guy that writes awesome words.
Love this version of Earthbound. Just saw him live for the 3rd time in as many years in Grass Valley, Ca. He's currently touring with Trey Hensley and Rob Ickes along with his band that includes Eamon McLoughlin, Dow Tomlin and Jamie Dick. Get some tix if he's coning near you. Definitely a great show. Oh, and Earthbound was 4th on the set list ;-)
I didn't know that, but now that I do it's so obviously Bela Fleck's sound. No wonder I love this song so much! I think "Sinister Minister" was the first Bela Fleck song I ever heard, had to call the radio station (PBS radio in Dallas) to find out who that marvelous artist was. Never heard anything like it before! My son loved Bela Fleck and also the "Gypsy Kings" when he was a baby. When he was fussy, I could put either one on, and he was all happy and grooving to the beat. th-cam.com/video/jndnEosYpqo/w-d-xo.html
As far as performances go, this is about as good as it gets. The melody and lyrics are brilliant. The director and editor have a superb eye for what to shoot and when to cut. Plus, watch Rodney's eye contact with the camera. Very few artists nail it like this.
Man I am grateful like this song very inspiring & what? Can be said about Rodney Crowell Love his music have for years & continue too listen and enjoy❤😂🎉Thanks for your music!😂
Did anyone else notice J.D. Souther at 4:02? What a talent. I dedicate this song to my little brother Clyde "Butchie" who just died December 7, 2009. You will be missed! and hope you don't stay Earthbound now, my gentle spirited brother!
One of the better music videos you'll see and, of course, the song speaks for itself. Great job and great visuals. Loved it. Probably my personal favorite Rodney song.
RC opened with this song on his recent show in Cincinnati and got a great reaction from the crowd. A perfect upbeat song to get everything flowing. A very good video is on TH-cam.
Singing this one in my head after seeing Rodney Crowell in a beautiful outdoor concert last night, he and his band put on a wonderful show!! My feet were on the ground but my heart was soaring. So grateful.

It's hard to kiss the lips at night that chew your ass out all day long (W/Vince Gill) As well as songs for other artists, namely 1. I ain't living long like this-Waylon Jennings 2. Leaving Louisiana in the broad daylight-The Oak Ridge Boys 3. Song for the life-Alan Jackson 4. Please Remember Me-Tim McGraw
Been awhile but this is the song that got me into RC. Great album that I always groove to when it pops up on the CD jukebox when working in the garage.

He kinda' was. Rodney and I grew up in Jacinto City, east of Houston. In the '50s it was definitely NOT cosmopolitan.
I hope Rodney stays "Earthbound" for many more years.
