I think there's one aspect England fans need to realise about the "we got to two finals" argument. Who were England playing back in the 2000s when they had the last golden generation? Argentina, Portugal, Germany, Brazil, Netherlands. Now look at all of Southgate tournament runs and count the amount of games against other major favorites. You'll find 3 or 4, and only one win (against Germany in 2021). England is not reaching finals and semi-finals because Southgate is a genius or because they're amazing. They've just been incredibly lucky with drawings and have been facing much weaker opponents. The worst part is, when they finally face strong opponents, they fold. This is why England doesn't win trophies, you can't keep riding your luck forever, against strong opposition, luck isn't enough.
its not a League based tournament anyway so sometimes finalists doesn't have the second best or even third best team. So ultimately its all about winning the final
This is why I'm sick of our draws. I want England to play better teams. "Winning" against Slovakia isn't building us up for our next opponents. Maybe if we thrashed them by 3 or more goals I'd be impressed but our performance makes me wonder why Spain weren't more confident in the final.

If Pep were in charge, England win this tournament and play way better football. That's how you know it's on the manager. Pep would struggle in international football, can't buy whoever you want, hence everyone's calling for klopp, he coaches players to be better and has a playstyle to compete with the best
I agree that England best opportunity was in the final against Italy. When you bear in mind that they haven’t qualified for the last two World Cups and even failed to qualify for this Euro final.
Indeed. Southgate took a risk on defensive tactics after the early goal. I can understand that choice, yet... You look at all those gray hairs on the Italian back line, and I think I would have unleashed Sterling/Rashford + Saka to grind the Italians, rather than let them completely control the pace of the game, and let their tired old players be comfortable.
We were the best team of the tournament what are you on about? Dominated the group stage, beat Austria (which are decent as shown by this euros), Belgium who were one of the favourites, and Spain in the semis. We didnt break the world record with 37 GAMES undefeated by chance.
Italy at Euro 2021 vs Italy not qualifying for the last World Cup and screwing Euro 2024 are completely different teams. Italy in 2021 were the best team and deserved to win. They are just incredibly inconsistent.
I guess never gonna happen, but Mourinho would be an absolute spectacle at the helm of the England team. He knows how to figure out players, how to get them give the max, he is a tournament coach for me through and through.

Unless you are Spain, tbh, I don't know why you are acting as though your team is better. We got to a final playing terrible football. That seems to indicate some kind of significant quality, does it not?
Mental how everyone says he’s reached finals etc. The last 3 tournaments we’ve had the easiest routes! Had we been in the other side of the draw, we’d have been out in the quarters! We’ve got a manager that’s clueless! Tactically inept!
Carragher is the only one who is correct, Gareth made the right subs throughout, attacking subs in the final also. The players should be criticised especially Kyle Walker, if Trent was at fault for two goals like that you lot would end his career.
We are not allowed an opinion mark !! Gareth doesn’t like it and then he mollycoddles the squad . His style is boring , lacklustre and stagnant . What’s he’s managed to do is cause subdivisions between the fans and the team we should have been United for the cause
No, the fans have done that to themselves with all the constant negativity and naysaying. Instead of getting behind the man, he's been ridiculed at every given opportunity. Anyone would think we'd not qualified the way people have been talking. Madness, but that's just my opinion.
Klopp would never take the job. Southgate was getting paid 5 million a year wages. Klopp would want treble that at the least and I can’t see the FA doing that.
You’re deluded if you think Klopp cares too much about money. At Liverpool, his wages were far lower than Pep, and stayed for all these years to win the lot. The problem is, does he want to touch the England mess? Doubt any manager would want that.
I would back Poch as manager. Yes he's foreign but he's coached 3 different teams in England. He knows the style and gets the passion. He's used to managing big names unlike Potter who failed at Chelsea.
Klopp walked away from the team he just finished rebuilding. Mach better team than the team England. Why would Jorgen put his reputation on the line for that?
Yeah, Klopp is a superb club manager who builds close relationships with players from seeing them everyday. International football won't allow him to do this. It will be Potter.
How can we be favourites to win these tournaments when we’ve done nothing for the last 60 years lol? We play crap football, we have immense luck with the draws, some decisions and last minute winners based on individual excellence. Nothing screams ‘favourites’ to me when I hear that.
The odds reflect the amount of money placed on them, not their ability. Fans need to learn to stop betting on England, bookies don't like losing money.
Yes Mark, well said. The established pundits and so called experts are equally culpable. Most of them were full on Southgate like Carragher, and totally, without critical challenge, supported Southgate's decision to start Kane, like Neville. They have all shown a complete lack of judgement, understanding and insight.
I mean, how much do the English fans and media have to complain about the team and say they aren't playing good before you see that they aren't arrogant? If they were arrogant they would be acting as though they were going to win. Since all anyone was saying was that we did not look good, I don't see how that is arrogance. You are just playing on silly, lazy stereotypes.
I am so old I remember the press being anti Alf Ramsey after he won the World Cup. Ever since then they have never hired a manager who won the league or anything important They pay him 5 million pa. Is losing finals justifying that Klopp for me.
It's a disgrace taking a foreign manager for England! We aren't St Kitts and even then i think you should only have coaches from said country! You can't put in a foreign player because you can't find a good English one so you shouldn't do it with coaches! But for England to not be able to find a British manager is ridiculous and sad!

Makes me laugh when English FA, press, pundits and fans don’t want Klopp because he is German but are happy with half the team having no English heritage.
Nearly all are Irish heritage, even Kane and Bellingham, with a smattering of English heritage, Pickford. Carribean heritage is half the team, and if he picked the best, he'd have about 9 players of Caribbean heritage, including Cole Palmer!
@matt94alexander32 who has NO English heritage then? Most people these days have MIXED heritage, it's the way of the world in 2024 mate. No one is "pure" anything anymore! Get with the times buddy
I enjoy the back and forth, and I like that Will challenges Mark when he starts going off. It makes the conversation become more pragmatic rather than ranty.
All the pundits backing Southgate should be asked if they would endorse him at their respective supportive clubs. Aka Liverpool, arsenal, Manu, etc. If the answer is not a resounding yes then they are not being honest and probably have nepotism issues/agenda
Southgate wanted to counter against Spain, with a team that he hadn't set up to counter... Banging it long to Kane who barely won any knock down headers, and having the only players close to him be Jude and Foden, neither of which are very pacey and won't try to run in behind. Saka in the early parts of the tournament was the only solid counter threat we had, but as a RWB rather than a RW, he's not able to do that as well either. Completely and utterly inept tactical setup almost all tournament long
That is the real headscratcher for me. Boring as they could be, at least the defensively minded Euros2021 and WC2022 English sides could hit you with a mean counter, with Sterling/Rashford + Saka attacking the wide spaces. Southgate seems to have simply given up on counterattacks. Yet I cannot figure out whether Gareth is thinking his plan is. It is a weird blend of defensive play and timid possession play.
I don't want to see England or my club winning silverware with that style of football. There has to be some entertainment value for the fans, otherwise it will be like cheering for your newly decorated walls as the paint dries.
It's funny, when Klopp first came to Liverpool and lost a couple of finals, it was all 'Klopp the flop' and 'serial bottler'. Southgate is somehow 'successful'.
Foden is not the future. He's been terrible for England for almost 40 matches. Any other era he wouldn't play again and he'd be lucky to have as many caps as he has.
I think Klopp would laugh at the irony. However, he'd also relish the challenge of achieving something that the rest of the coaching world has failed at!

Roy Keane was the worst. Used to speak his mind but now is totally in the FA's pocket.
Makes sense since he is Irish
@@thebiasedreview5432what does that mean???
The old Keane would have called for Kane to be dropped.
Keane doesn't care and we shouldn't expect him to.
Keane surrounded by Nevilles for too long. You get Ian Wright being positive but not Keane.
Would be nice to have Klopp as our next manager but there’s no way a German would want to manage the England national team 😶😂
Why not a German? We’ve already had a Suede and Italian.
Why would he not....
Klopp has stated in interviews over and over that when he leaves Liverpool ( I know he's left now 😂 ) the only job in football he would ever consider is the German national team job.
@@GazH-zc7jjHe never said that. He said he will never coach another English Team (obvs National Team excluded) but other than that everything is possible in the future.
@@Inglese001 im sorry to be pedantic but it's Swede. Suede is a material
Stones constantly passing back to pickford so he can boot it upfield and give it back to the opposition every game!
I would rather watch paint dry than southgate ball.
We would all love Klopp, but it's never happening!
Before Southgate we won nothing
After Southgate we won nothing
How is that an improvement exactly
As a Liverpool fan I too would also love Klopp mostly because he’ll know how to use and get the best out of Trent, knowing he’s also a huge Bellingham fan and wanted to coach him I think Bellingham will inevitably be Englands captain one day and under Jurgens guide will be successful
If Pep were in charge, England win this tournament and play way better football. That's how you know it's on the manager. Obviously Pep isn't available, but if they had a competent manager that was willing to play attacking, progressive football, England could actually win a major tournament. If England could somehow get someone like Klopp or Mancini, that'd be amazing.
Pep wouldn't know what to do with these English players with lack of IQ. Pep has never built his teams around English players. Main players all foreigners lol
Pep would struggle in international football, can't buy whoever you want, hence everyone's calling for klopp, he coaches players to be better and has a playstyle to compete with the best
Its all ok now. Southgates resigned
Southgate should remain as England coach, because I don't want him near Man United's job.
Ten Haag has sighed a new contract with Man utd theres no prospect of that happening now.
Plus everyone in world be safe on 2026 in usa / Canada/ Mexico 🇲🇽 / please gReth stay 😂😂😂😂
Klopp would never work again in England and have to deal with the horrible press and having to watch the refs ....I do not blame him
But hasn’t he already been used to the entire shabam with Liverpool? He already knows the pressure.
@@cMaslowthere’s a difference between club football and international football
So true, the British press is downright vicious. No thanks. Anyway, Klopp would probably just burst out laughing if he was asked .
Hilarious as if klopp would even consider the England job
and why would we want a jab pusher as manager
@@Cliff589look at it this way, Southgate is safe and Klopp is effective

Southgate has quit as England manager! 🎉🎉
Has he?
Of course you want Klopp. Who wouldnt. He would rather manage Bootle under 18s than England.

I think Klopp would be perfect for England but I can't see him ever coming over germany.
Course not. We'd never forgive him for that.
although I've agreed with much of what Mark has said I think it's a bit of entitlement thinking your team could play that bad all through and win the trophy. that's a farce
Most likely thing is for England if Southgate retire is Graham potter
Klopp will not do it. The England job comes with so much crap from the press, only people who can manage that could be a boss of the national team. Jurgen would be well versed to steer clear.
England fans never cease to amaze 😂😂😂, 0 euro's a joke of a world cup in 1966 but "on paper!!!!!!!" The greatest teams to ever grace a pitch LOL
Unless you are Spain, tbh, I don't know why you are acting as though your team is better. We got to a final playing terrible football. That seems to indicate some kind of significant quality, does it not?
Agree that, first of all, FA should ask Pep and Jurgen if they’re interested, if not Eddie Howe would do a decent job.
Klopp doesn't like negativity ...nuff said!!!!!
Unfortunately klopp rejected USA and there will be a likely chance that klopp won’t manage again
You can't compare England to USA....

exactly
@@SamuelTaieb he rejected the USA because he wanted a break from management, not because it was the USA

No1 is calling Ralf world class but look at Albania compared to us
Klopp would never take the job.
I want Klopp too. Doubt he will pick England over Germany though.
Southgate retired!
Lol if I heard my clubs new manager is Southgate I think I'd have a seizure
I would back Poch as manager. Yes he's foreign but he's coached 3 different teams in England. He knows the style and gets the passion. He's used to managing big names unlike Potter who failed at Chelsea.
Did poch succeed at chelsea?
Definitely need a change, even my sister was saying why is kane playing and why was we passing the ball back and then booting the ball up front
Mark:" I want Klopp!"
Klopp:" No, thank you"
FA:" We think we must renew Southgate's deal at this point!"
Would be great, just can’t see it happening unfortunately
Yes Mark, well said. The established pundits and so called experts are equally culpable. Most of them were full on Southgate like Carragher, and totally, without critical challenge, supported Southgate's decision to start Kane, like Neville. They have all shown a complete lack of judgement, understanding and insight.
Now why would Pep and Klopp wanna waste their tactics on an arrogant deluded count ry? 😂
@@Bert-lw1ot probably scottish, they got nothing better to do up there except bath in jealousy of their neighbours
Klopp hates the British Media why would he go into that Job 🤣
I am so old I remember the press being anti Alf Ramsey after he won the World Cup. Ever since then they have never hired a manager who won the league or anything important
They pay him 5 million pa. Is losing finals justifying that
Klopp for me.
It's a disgrace taking a foreign manager for England! We aren't St Kitts and even then i think you should only have coaches from said country! You can't put in a foreign player because you can't find a good English one so you shouldn't do it with coaches! But for England to not be able to find a British manager is ridiculous and sad!
Bunch of muppets in this comment section. England are not entitled to win a damn thing ever again. The players are just as much to blame, southgate can't kick the ball for them can he? I say this as an england supporter for over 30yrs, I'm ashamed of the way majority of our fans and the entire msm are reacting to this tournament.
Klopp will be a good choice!
He plays attacking football every player tracking back he never plays sitting back playing for draw or penalties
Euro96 team was much better, so was 1990 World Cup, what you talking about?!!

I enjoy the back and forth, and I like that Will challenges Mark when he starts going off. It makes the conversation become more pragmatic rather than ranty.
You know who fits the profile that the FA want?..... Graham Potter!!😂
Guys little advice from Germany
Tuchel and Terzić: one for tactics one for team spirit . Both have proven that they can master knockout tournaments!
Right, anyone else feel like since England got to the final and Southgate kinda did Mark in that he has been in delulu land
Unpopular opinion, but I think Frank Lampard could be a (slight) upgrade on Southgate for the England job.
First couple of group games - England had 3RBs on the field...............madness
Yep let's not forget just how bad we were in this tournament
Yeah, I honestly think his plan was holding null null for the whole 120 minutes and win on penalties
Props to Mark for being patient with this dude.
Spain saved the world 🇪🇸
Foden is not the future. He's been terrible for England for almost 40 matches. Any other era he wouldn't play again and he'd be lucky to have as many caps as he has.
Agree with most of what Goldbridge says except that England is a better team than Spain.
No, they aren't.
Klopp would never manage England, he isn't a YES man plus i think one of the reasons he left Liverpool was the FA
I think Klopp would laugh at the irony. However, he'd also relish the challenge of achieving something that the rest of the coaching world has failed at!
As someone from wales and is a Liverpool fan. I agree he likes a challenge and thrives for big projects. That’s one of the main reasons he took the project with us.
