The England Manager should be English The premise of international football is that you are presenting to the world the Best your nation is producing if we are not producing the best we need to up our game I’d go one step further English premier league teams should only have English Managers and coaches & players and owners
The majority of all countries in the world use foreign managers, this is not something remotely unusual. Even amongst more established footballing nations it still happens, like Martinez coaching Portugal or Bielsa coaching Uruguay for example. Even the England women's team have a Dutch manager and no one had an issue with that. Also this narrative that Germany, Italy, or Spain wouldn't employ a foreign manager either, well that's obviously because they actually have a plethora of world class domestic managers to choose between so it's not an issue for them, not because the prospect of employing a foreigner is wrong by itself. England are not in that position. The only remotely qualified English manager for the job right now is probably Eddie Howe and he's already employed. If there really was a rule saying that coaches also had to be citizens of the country they're coaching in the same way that the players are, then sure. You could argue it'd be more authentic international football that way and I wouldn't be against that, but that is quite simply not the rule and it never has been. What's the point of spouting the idea that "the English manager is supposed to be an Englishman" when that is just factually wrong, that's just a norm you've made up for yourselves and not something that's ever been the standard for international football beyond that. It's an issue England have largely caused for themselves. First of all the Premier League has become more of an international league than any other league because it's the richest league, top class managers from all kinds of countries come to it for the fame and fortune. There are barely any English managers in the Prem, whereas the majority of the ones in the other top 5 leagues are from their respective countries. And the other big problem is the actual coaching licence in England costs a fortune compared to other countries which severely limits the amount of people that can even try to qualify to become coaches in the first place since it's so expensive.
Why is it wrong to want an English manager for England? Brazil, Argentina, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Netherlands, they all prefer to have their own countrymen leading their national team. Nationality is the basis of interntional football, you do know that, right? You'll have to explain to me why it is wrong to want an English manager for England?
Bordering on xenophobia at this point. The best candidate for the job should get the job. Its mindboggling that some believe otherwise. None of the current pool of English managers even Howe inspire me more than Tuchel. God willing this flawed argument vanishes in the coming months and years. This England side is full of inclusivity with footballers from lots of wonderful backgrounds, lets continue that trend of acceptance...

I'm an Irish fan of the Premier League. Been a Chelsea fan since the mid 90s. I'm one of those few who doesn't mind seeing the English team do well. I'm honestly very excited to see Tuchel get the job. The Irish getting an English manager is much more controversial and contentious than the English getting a German manager. A couple of years of war versus 800 years of oppression... But we loved Jack Charlton and he remains one of the most important sports figures in our nation's history. He brought our country together. Tuchel could be special.

Leave England and grow learn a new language and a new way of doing things!!!
Hit the nail on the head. No English coach is currently good enough to manage the national team. Best man for the job should get the role. End of discussion.
I respectfully disagree. International competition is suppose to be the best of us vs the best of theirs, coaches included. Coaches play a key role in the performance and relatability of a national team. I'll make an example with our national Rugby coach. Russie Erasmus is South African through and through. We hear a South African accent at all pess conferences and the play style is South African. The whole country can rally behind that. May be an antiquated take but it's one I truly believe in. National pride. Our best vs their best!!! Thanks.
Absolutely agree with you Mark. Bloody Carragher, what a bloody nugget that is. It isn't going to be easy to better Gareth Southgate's record, however, but he has gone now. So we must get behind Tuchel. And as for the National Anthem, why should he sing it, half the England players can't be arsed to sing it for crying out loud. Anyway, I'm with you on this, good luck Thomas!!!
Jude Bellingham has an Irish passport, don't see anyone complaining that he's representing England. People in this country are so xenophobic its saddening. Mark's right, English managers are awful. Eddie Howe might be the only decent candidate and he's unavailable, and even he hasn't won anything. Potter was obviously uncomfortable at Chelsea and couldn't handle the pressure. Gerrard, Lampard and Rooney are awful. Sean Dyche is obviously a no... Lee Carsley did win the under 21s Euros with England. I think that has credibility to it to be fair but he was useless in front of the media as well and lost to Greece so probably not the answer either.
@@MentalityGiant I'm on a social media platform largely agreeing with the person in the video and yet I'm the troll? It's crazy cuz the first international tournament i watched with England was with Sven as the manager, and i still loved every minute of it. (Apart from when we lost obviously) And the irony is, I'm pretty sure during that period at some point Neville was in the England squad. So why now all of a sudden is it a problem...
My point of view is that we can have any manager as the rules allow. But I would want the coaching staff to be under the same rules for who they can coach as the players are for who they can play for. That should be the case in my opinion as it's then the best the nation can offer
The FA charging extortionate amounts of money for coaching badges is the reason we don't have enough coaches here, look at the numbers of qualified coaches in Spain, Germany etc where the cost of getting badges is SIGNIFICANTLY lower.

It is what it is and some people love certain parts of British football culture, but for sure one thing it doesn’t do is produce great thinkers about the game. It’s actually hostile to intelligence and innovation.
Why should this nonsense stop at managers? Ask Gary why England's captain plays in Germany, ask him why Englands best midfielder plays in Spain.
Because there's a difference between club football and international football?
And why do many other countries' best players play in England?
@@joewhite22 Notice how this debate is transforming and now people are bringing all different aspects to the debate, all irrelevant. The Monarchs, Anglo-Saxons, German cars, etc, etc. Apparently, if I ever looked at a German person then I'm wrong for not wanting Tuchel. It's getting completely ridiculous. I don't even care if Tuchel is German, Mexican, Chinese or Bulgarian, makes no difference, I still want an English manager for England.

marco senna won the euros with spain in midfield. hes brazlian born and bred. diago costa is brazilian. both di stefano and puskas played for argentina and hungary before playing for spain.
italy have given 16 caps to an argentian lad called retegui who had never been there before his first call up. Jorginho won them the euros despite being brazilian born and bred. Luis Monti played for Argentina and Italy, and is the only player to appear in two World Cup final matches for different teams. we all know how easy it is for a footballer to get an italian passport.
Rakatic was born and raised in switzerland but played for croatia.
Aubamayang is french but played for gabon.
chadli is morrocan but played for belgium.
and of course argentina keep playing some lad called messi despite him being from out of space.

England fans: "our manager has to be English!"
Also England fans: "we want Pep Guardiola!"
Im actually looking forward to INTL football now
Come on Tuchel!
Totally agree with you on this one mate!!
The England Manager should be English
The premise of international football is that you are presenting to the world the Best your nation is producing if we are not producing the best we need to up our game
I’d go one step further English premier league teams should only have English Managers and coaches & players and owners
It's reprehensible. Their obsession with the need for an English manager shows their incompetence as pundits.
@@MentalityGiant nothings wrong with it but who’s better than tuchel?
@@MentalityGiant I’d obviously prefer an English manager if they were good enough
These pundits would be silent if the manager was say Kenyan.

Snowflake detected. You're one of these "phobia" people are you. You do realise a phobia is a proper medical condition which requires diagnosis by a doctor, right? Are you a doctor? Or just throwing lazy smear words around?
We are allowed to complain about a German football manager......but not about thousands of men of fighting age being imported illegally by a corrupt government.
@@MentalityGiant phobia is a word that means an irrational fear. Just because its used in a medical context doesn't mean it can't also be used by laymen.
No cares when our Olympic athletes are trained by the best coaches from around the world, it's only football that has this issue
In a ideal world they would be an English tuchel but the facts are they ain’t. So it’s either take a massive risk or choose gaurenteed success with a foreign manager
but they wouldn't be complaining if Pep took the job though
To be fair I get a bit of what Gary is saying, the FA has failed to produce any decent English managers in the last 30 years, hell Harry Redknapps first managerial game was a 9-0 loss to Lincoln city, he has no room to talk cause hes as useless as they come, all English managers have been trash over the last 30 years.
@@fozzylozzy1131 I mean tuchel lost 25 percent of his matches at bayern the worse record of any manager they have had and im not sure losing redknapps first match reflects on his whole career
Yeah but he then proceeded to say that we should have an English manager after calling all English managers rubbish😂😂😂
Redknapp useless? I would argue he's the best English manager in the PL era. He might not be elite but what other English manager this era has won an FA Cup, got top 4 twice, reached a CL QF? The FA should have selected him instead of Hodgson because we all know how that turned out.
Apparently the coaching badges cost more in England then elsewhere, so the FA are shooting themselves in the foot.
If their opinion is that there should be a rule in place whereby International Managers have to be from that country... FINE! I could get behind that.
Given that that rule doesn't currently exist tho... SHUT UP about his nationality and focus on whether or not he's actually a good managerial appointment...
You play to your strengths so if its in the rules, you play to the rules.... Foreign Managers are NOT against the rules..
It’s 13 grand to do your pro coaching badge alone. Not everyone has that money
don’t agree with you on this one goldbridge, think national team should have the same nationality manager
Irony is they would be all for it if it was Guardiola. It's solely because he's German!
Absolutely spot on. That's exactly what it is. Have you got a problem with that?
@Sean-d4p As an guy with German heritage living in England, I'm all for it
@edd9632 All for what..? Getting Guardiola in? Because that's what you were saying originally, and I told you that's exactly what it is. We wouldn't have had a problem if it had been Guardiola, because he's not German. There's a massive rivalry between our countries mate there always will be
@@Sean-d4p How narrow minded are you, have you stripped anything German from your life?
@@Sean-d4p It's mostly one-way mate. Germans don't see a particular rivalry with England.
As an Irish person I agree with the media. Ye should give the job to Gerrard or Neville. Definitely not Tuchel, we'll gladly take him off your hands 🙃
Tbh I am getting bit tired of wanting England to fail every year and they end up not defying expectations. Makes it kind of hard to hate them when they are terrible lol
So you were 2 when he managed Ireland in the WC? Bigging up a manager you never watched…😂

Poch is Argentinian... USA manager.
Neville, Carragher and co are absolute melts!
They forget that Jose started his career as a translator at Barca working under an English coach he left Portugal so did Wenger went to Monaco won there came here and changed the culture. English coaches don’t want to learn a different language Neville was a crap coach at Valencia a job he only got because he is mates with the owner.
Gary Gary Gary, you’re a failed manager and should just keep it shut when it comes to coaching debates.
Well said!
He got an Irish passport to get around Real Madrid's rulings for amount of non-EU players they're allowed.
Try harder, troll.

And the irony is, I'm pretty sure during that period at some point Neville was in the England squad. So why now all of a sudden is it a problem...
9:38 i’m dying 😂😂😂😂
Wha-wha-wha-wha-what-wha-what
My point of view is that we can have any manager as the rules allow. But I would want the coaching staff to be under the same rules for who they can coach as the players are for who they can play for. That should be the case in my opinion as it's then the best the nation can offer
I’ve always found it weird that the manager doesn’t have to be from the country but that’s just me
The FA charging extortionate amounts of money for coaching badges is the reason we don't have enough coaches here, look at the numbers of qualified coaches in Spain, Germany etc where the cost of getting badges is SIGNIFICANTLY lower.

Ow get over it Mark. The whole point of competitions involving nations is that the people come from the nation. And why shouldn’t that include the manager? No logic to that
