Creatable World dolls were Mattel’s short-lived attempt at creating a more inclusive doll line. The wigs made it possible for gender non-conforming folks to better see themselves in the dolls. The wigs were a huge selling point. The fact that this line was discontinued is criminal. 💔
As a nonbinary person I was extremely joyful to found creatable world dolls ☆ . I'm glad I bought couple of the dolls when I did since you cant get thlse anywhere. I wish the line hadn't been cancelled :
I do find it interesting to note that the dolls were designed to resemble children ( most likely because children's bodies are perceived as more androgynous ) unlike most Barbies which are more modeled after adults... if they bring creatable world back I think modeling them after adults with a more androgynous body type might sell better and have wider appeal?
I assumed so beause the almost last doll seen in the add here looks like a boy/traditional male body but rainbw shirt and skirt on. Which looks super cute! I have to check which body models, skin tones etc they had. To bad they were cancelled.
I absolutely loved the flava dolls! I had a bunch as a young kid in the early 2000’s! Honestly wish I never got rid of them, but I thought I grew up at one point lol! now as an adult in my 30s I collect a lot of dolls, mostly fashion dolls.
2:23 My grandmother kept a suitcase full of old vintage Barbies in her house for my and my sister to play with, and they were prone to splitting at the chin - from having their hair brushed too hard by too many kids, probably. I know the purpose is for hairstyling, but I wonder if people ever bought these to replace a Barbie head instead of buying a new doll.
Public domain is the term you were looking for in regards to stories/characters you can use without copyright! And thank you for these videos. Your energy is infectious and your joy is so refreshing, I might just go binge all of your previous Window Shopping videos because I love them. I'm in the distracting-myself-from-it stage of all this and this is really helping. I hope you're staying safe and recovering financially and mentally from your cat's supreme tummy ache surgery!!!!
Thank you for your kind words. I’ve been so stressed and feel almost panicked at times. I have bad anxiety so it comes easily. TH-cam has definitely helped me. I love when you find stuff that I haven’t seen before. Or your deep dives. Thanks again. Have a good day.
There are two vintage barbies who were made for wig play. Also, at one point, little girls could get just a head that could wear wigs, and put it on the barbie doll that they already had.
I've never really understood the hate on the flavas line. They were made and designed by a man who is AA. They were made to appeal to the urban communities. I grew up in the inner city (the hood), and these dolls were in family dollars. We all loved them so much. They were wearing actual urban clothing, that was trendy at the time. Very diverse skin tones, and face molds that were clearly made to be aa. As well as other races. I guess... it's just kind of offensive for people to be offended by these. Imagine if they just slapped barbie in these urban clothes... that reallllly wouldn't have gone over well. Why is it wrong to have an urban inspired line? Does our community not deserve representation?
It's always SJWs getting offended about it without being around people who had or have an urban lifestyle. If you have only seen it on the media or never had people in your family like that, you would find it "cultural appropriation". Lol
Oh my gosh, my sister and I had Flavas dolls when I was pretty young!!! We really loved those dolls, and I've always wondered what their line was called! I have the blond girl (she was so short, I always loved that) and my sister the tall brunette/darker blond with the beanie! As an adult I've always wondered where they came from and what happened to them, so thank you for talking about them!
Watched two of your videos and immediate follow. Love your energy definitely feels like I’m chatting about fashion dolls and nostalgic girly toys with an old friend!
Im so glad I found your channel. Watched about 6 videos before I realized we're both WA girlies. The way you dive into things and speak about them is so comforting. Thank you for making content! Also I had /the/ pixelchix shown in this video. I loved it so much.
22:12 I had this exact one im screaming! You could go upstairs and change your hair and outfit, and downstairs was your home with the most precious little molded furniture that you could interact with
There were two Barbies in the 60s that had wigs. The first is Miss Barbie which didn’t sell too well and is pretty rare. There is an issue with her swim cap/hat having a tendency to melt the plastic of the head if left on the doll in the box for a long time. The other is Fashion Queen which is a popular vintage doll among collectors and she had a reproduction doll released around 2010 and she had three wigs. There was also a gift set that had a couple more wigs and a vintage Midge head designed to also wear wigs.
OBSESSED with that Sabrina the Teenage Witch doll!!! (Also you do have good comforting and inspiring words, and your videos are also always both those things! )
If I were a doll designer I would be so delighted to see the dolls I made appreciated in this way, so cute! Exactly the kind of wholesome content I think is needed right now😄😬
When you showed that listing with the Generation Girls Dance Party Nichelle with the pink fur dress, I literally screamed at the TV. I had her! Haven't thought about her in years. Those tights she has on were a /pain/ to take off and put back on. The tiny little magazine was readable and that's how I first learned Barbie's last name was Roberts. Also her afro ringlets we super fun to pull on and i'm pretty certain I ruined the shape. I also had a Workin Out Christie that I got for my 5th birthday. I played that cassette so often til I was around 10 that I can still sing most of the song by heart.
oh my gosh I had that exact Madison swapping styles doll! she was my fave! I always played with her like she was Hannah Montana and each head was a different secret identity lol also I never had a generation girl *doll* but I somehow acquired the first book in the tie-in chapter book series and the storyline was very proto-MyScene. The concept was Barbie and her friends being cool teens in NYC (burned into my memory solely because the in-book map that showed each girl’s home also had tiny little Twin Towers) and Barbie was always filming with her camcorder in-book.
I still have my Generation Girls Mari doll! I never see anyone mention her or remember her at all, so I got so excited to see her in this because I loved her sm as a child
I'm so happy I found your channel omg. You get to all my niches and I've been binging all your videos since yesterday and I'm scared of running out of them soon lmao 😭
@32:38 Did you ever get to play the Generation Girls video game?? It was called gotta groove! I think it was a hand-me-down and it always crashed at the exact same part (trying to perform a routine) !!! I honestly didn't know they made dolls and only thought it was a PC game!!
There's a whole chapter on "anime dolls" but BJD or Dollfie Dreams aren't even mentioned in the conversation 🥲🥲🥲 I was never into dolls but BJD pretty much changed my life lol. So fun to customize and make your own characters in tangible form.
Seeing the la Dee da dolls unlocked a memory lmao. I had the New York one as a kid and I don’t really know why I wanted it. I lost the rose on her head and I think I cut the bow off the dress so I could use it for littlest pet shops 😂
I had one of those Maxie makeup things, the lipstick one. I don’t think I ever used it on myself much, mostly because I hated getting dirty in any way, even for something fun like makeup. I was a weird kid. Lol. But I loved the Maxie line of dolls. I even liked her cartoon, which we used to rent on vhs. I feel so old saying that. 😅 It was a fun surprise, seeing that makeup in this video. I’d completely forgotten they existed. Also, I hope you’re taking some time for yourself, with everything that’s going on. I know I’m still reeling for the election, and so is everyone I love. Thanks for your kind words about it. I know for myself, it helps knowing so many people are with me in being horrified by the results. May all of us survive these next four years. ❤
Catching Fire is my favourite movie, and also my favourite book of the series. I get the IDEA behind the shaky cam in the first one, but it makes me so immensely motion sick if I'm not careful XD
20:35 "they look comforting" same vibe as I came across your videos, and I mean that in the best way of course 😊 28:26 my intrusive thought, "dont try to mandala effect me!" lol
I had that Sabrina doll. She was soft and stuffed, and the "levitation" was a cut out from her bed stuck down the back of her skirt. Also i wish i kept my Generation Girl dolls, Mari was my favorite.
Ladeeda dolls...looking at them I am almost POSITIVE their bodies were reused for Jakks Pacific's Winx Club dolls. Maybe with an elbow added? But the bodies look identical
so, after watching one of your videos I looked up "ugly fashion doll" and I got a reddit post called "What is the most cursed fashion doll you have seen?" The doll you mentioned wasn't in the top twenty tbh. Kiki tiki is a doll, okay. Along with flatsy.
Good soup for sick days How dare they to Layla/Aisha dirty like that, she is no Bratz!!! The word/phrase you were looking for is I believe ‘entering Public Domain’
I have one of the mermaze girls, they had a lot of potential but got downgraded in the process. The clothing and bodies are a lot of fun but I didn't like the face as much, so I did the logical thing and decapitated mine to give her a Licca head. Now I adore her.
I own 3 creatable world dolls they're genderfluid basically. You can make them masculine, feminine, nonbinary etc they're very diverse my only complaint is the wigs don't have bangs. The bangs are supposed to be the rooted bangs and the wig is the back of the hair to lengthen it. There's a visible plastic rim from how the wigs are rooted and imo it looks bad. So my dolls are displayed without the wigs. My mom bought them for me as a Christmas gift thinking i could customize them (which i plan on doing when i acquire the necessary materials)
I had the techno out of this world doll those dolls have LEDs in them. think those spinning light toys that when you hold down a button they light up and spin but in doll form the techno one that I had you could see the LEDs in the highlight and the headphones 8:23
Hey can you talk about the doll line once upon a zombie? No one really covers or talks about it and I’ve been so so interested in the webisodes, the dolls, and the books, yet I can’t find much information about them!
For context, I’m a trans man, but as a kid I LOVED the normal Bratz dolls. I had quite a few and had a few of the video games. Aaaand being how as soon as I could dress myself, I’ve dressed in alternative fashions. I’ve also always been a Very Loud and Proud Maximalist in all things, fashion/style included. So, the Bratz’s vibe tracks with who I am as a person XD I USED to still have a lot of mine but I’m unsure if my niece got rid of them when she was younger, as I let her play with them then and, unlike me, she has no problem getting rid of stuff when she’s not as interested in them. ((I have like. Hoarding tendencies. I have learned it’s uh, kinda related to my autism+adhd but I struggle to get rid of stuff. I get emotional attachments. I’ve gotten better at it tho. I have a system now lol)) They COULD still be in the attic or not. Iiii have no idea. I started collecting Monster High dolls again a bit before they did the G3 launch. I started collecting them when I was a teenager cuz uh, they came out after I was a kid but they spark joy in my alt boy heart and always have XD)) I’ve contemplated like. Recollecting some Bratz but so far I’ve only started collecting some of the Bratzilla dolls cuz. I really only collect the all limbs articulated ones))
Please please please look into Creatble World!! They're probably the coolest thing Mattel has done since Monster High and were a huge win for the queer community! These dolls are completely genderless until whoever is playing with them assigns them a gender. They have wig packs you can swap out, the most extensive clothing options I've ever seen a doll launch with, cute fashion packs. They can be anyone and anything and they're amazing! Sadly though they were a victim of timing, they came out right before the pandemic hit, people weren't in stores to see them, and money was tight because of how many layoffs were happening and so they didn't sell. I hope Mattel takes a chance on them again because since their discontinuing they've become rather popular. Had Mattel just rode the pandemic out with this line, I think they would've been huge and we would have seen even greater things coming from them. Plus they're one of the only dolls of this size to be fully articulated!
I am in Germany or would be tempted to bid on the 195 Mermaid dolls I have never heard of because damn she is beautiful and rather unique in design compared to other mermaid toy lines I know... that not accurate looking Sailor Mercury though.. yeah those didn´t sell well in my country. >_
It's very interesting to see Flava dolls through a 2025 lens. I was in college then & they actually resemble like my friend group around that time. I'd consider both dolls on the left side as AA. Our group of 8 included a White friend who was fully engrossed in & accepted into the Black culture. She was the only one who wasn't AA. She even had her hair braided much like that a few times. At a glance she appeared to be a very light AA when she wore braids. I mention this as the blonde doll does represent the full spectrum of the AA community. My neice & cousin have similar skintones & identify as Black. 😬 I hate to admit it... this is actually somewhat decent representation. --even if it's poorly executed.
16:47 URGENT: Drop everything and go watch Monster High Haunted, because if you think the dolls look cool, just wait until you see the animations!!!! I'm totally not bias, wdym this totally isn't my all time favorite Monster High movie... PORTER AND SPECTRA OH MY GODS!!!! Also Porter's outfit looks so cool in the movie but on the doll his clothes are lowkey kinda ugly.

They were also very affordable and accessible, with great quality.
Also that was zero shade to at you! I looooove this channel lol just my two scents on this line.

I had the pixel chix house and car! it been in my head as a half memory, pretty sure i had another piece, maybe a house?, so much fun.
I owned just the working out Barbie cassette as a little girl :)
PRINCESS PRANCERS MENTIONED !!!!
i feel like you would like the once upon a zombie and fairy tale high dolls
Love that working out barbie wouldn’t have been able to even wear the skates in the sports fashion pack, I know I would’ve been so upset as a kid
