As a German, hearing the Dutch language always makes me giggle! Kaffee verkehrt 😅

I once had a Dutch roommate, he lived here with his dog. The Dutch command for a dog to sit down is "zit", but he pronounced it like "shit".... So whenever I took the dog for a walk and wanted the dog to sit down, I was like "Shiva, shit! Ja, Shiva, shit! So ist gut! Jaa!"
People standing next to us at the traffic lights: 😳😳😳

This is all to accurate. You do a really good Dutch accent!!
Everywhere in the world (except France) people love it when you try to speak their language. In the Netherlands everybody speaks English and is just like, 'Why bother? Why put yourself through this torment?'.
Besides that, don't expect any of staff in restaurants and shops in Amsterdam to be able to speak any Dutch. English is the first language.

I actually disagree, I'm dutch but I have troubles finding out what he tries to imitate. The bob name however is very accurate!

True. Most hotels in Amsterdam are run by staff that don't speak Dutch.

  •  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

I live in Holland for 11 years and till now, I did not dare to learn even one word... Actually, that was the very first thing I told myself...: "You are never gonna speak this language..."
(Probably the only country in the world where you can apply this)
Great stuff... Thanks for entertaining us..!

This is so true. The most funny experience I had was ordering a donut at mc donalds. I would repeat forever and ever, "mag ik een donut" untill the girl at the counter was like "ooooooh you want a DONÜT" pronouncing donut like super dutch with this dutch u sound, like she had never heard the english pronounciation of donut :***) (I have a bit of a german accent I have to say, but it always surprised me how dutch they pronounce english words, always with this ü sound, like drüm n bass, dübstep or even programms like final cüt, which in their language actually sounds like final cunt)

    • @LeondeLeeuw
      @LeondeLeeuw 3 ปีที่แล้ว

Dutch people get a lot of fame for their English. But it’s not really that great. Indeed they can’t distinguish donut or donut from your pronunciation and will only understand if you butcher the word. The U of Dutch-English makes a lot of people cringe, it sounds awful. It is just a lack of experience, not how people are supposed to pronounce it and most people in the Netherlands know it. We call this butchered pronunciation ‘steenkolenengels’, black coal English, probably how miners used to speak. Our prime minister is a great example of it.

Man this is sooooo funny 😂😂 Im a German with a few good dutch friends and I can somehow relate to this even though our languages are so close. But especially as a German I think dutch people make fun of you all the time 😂 my favorite so far was (in a dutch accent):
Dutch: Hey Deutscher, du hast etwas verloren!!
    Me: ohhm okay .. was?
    Dutch: den Kriechhh (Krieg)!!! HAHAH!!!
😂😂😂😂😂 much love to all the Dutch people

OMG, I have the same story in Berlin. I moved here in June 2020. And I needed to buy scissors to cut the tiny papers of my last name and glue them to the bell and postbox. I went to the stationery store nearby and said to the seller with my mask on - "Ich brauche eine Schere". She didn't understand and I repeated. And then she goes "AAAaaa, SCHEEEEEERE" pronouncing the first "e" long. Of course, I bought the scissors, but it was my first embarrassing moment because of the language.

There is a difference between a cologn and a parfum a vast concentration difference of about 20% or more. Sorry not sorry, but yes the coffee system is horrid, but i must have it especially with stroopwafels, which is another word you can say with an accent and they laugh at you. It sucks, but its so good once they give you what you want
