    Gud evening bro! 'twas again, a very informative and useful video creation by your channel! Thanks for this... By the way, can i ask you? Does your koi pond buit with rooftop? Or it has been fully open to sunlight? Which one do you prefer?

    • @thekoipondexperience1259

      Thanks broh! I have a roof over my pond. It's a 50-50 consensus as to roof or not to roof. Some say rain water is safe and won't harm the koi. Some also say rain water, once in a blue moon, brings in very acidic water, too much for the koi to adjust to the sudden pH change. And would result to some stressed koi and even dead koi.
      To better sleep at night, I went with having a roof over the pond. So when it rains, I am not worried for the kois.

    btw why didn't u use the drain at the bottom of the mechanical filter drum? i have one like the in my pond. i feel it's a complete failure because when i drain it i only see clear water coming out but no poop.. but when i take out everything and clean it. i see a lot of poop.. frankly i feel the drain option is completely useless.. i will clean my bio filter less after watching ur vdo.. how often do u recommend i clean my bio filter. i used to do it every 2 weeks..

    • @thekoipondexperience1259
      @thekoipondexperience1259  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Arif, thanks for coming by this video. When I drain the mechanical filter it will only show dirty water for 5 to 10 seconds and after that only clean water will come out. So its not really an effective way to do the cleaning since most of the collected solid waster are hanging unto the mosquito nets.
      As for the bio-filters, I only touch them once a year. The disturbance in the bacteria house really affects the pond water. When I do clean the bio-filters I stop feeding 2 days before I do it. I only resume feeding again after 3 days I finished cleaning.
      So I emphasize here that we take care of the bacteria, they are our silent companion in keeping our koi healthy and comfortable in the pond.

    • @thekoipondexperience1259
      @thekoipondexperience1259  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@arifbobnp yes the nets actually can work as biological media as well. Careful not to stuff them too tightly, we need them to be loose so water would still flow through them so the bacteria can have flowing water all the time.
      My koi mentor has only fish nets & mosquito nets in his biological chamber and he has 90cm koi in his collection.

      Hello Rod, they are available at the textile section of your local department stores.
      You can also find these nets at most hardware stores since they use it at construction sites of tall buildings to protect people from falling debris around the construction area.

    Wouldn't a oneway valve made out of pvc would prevent the return flow?

    • @thekoipondexperience1259
      @thekoipondexperience1259  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello Vraj, yes it would. But opted not to do it for two reasons. First this work around is really simple.
      Second when the valve becomes slimy & it's surface covered with decomposing fish poop, they fail to do a good seal and water eventually returns to the pond.
      Albeit very slow. I experience this myself on my old drum filter.

      Clean the mechanical filters at least once a week. But if you have free time, you may clean the mechanical filters everyday.
      I know two personal koi pals that have their mechanical chambers cleaned everyday.
