    Nice design, but with that huge pipe you're wasting a good opportunity. Biomedia works best remaining clean as possible. Using a wider container, you could then have several layers of sponge filters fill the entire container....THEN fill the pipe with the biomedia, this way only clean water would be hitting it. Also, the air bubbles hitting the media would also be cleansing to keep anarobic bacteria from infecting it.

    The only thing I would do differently is, instead of the filter pad being on top holding all the garbage in the bio media, I would line the container walls with a filter pad and put the media in the middle of the container that way only clean water touches the media and it can do its job of eliminating ammonia, nitrites, and maybe even nitrates (depending on the media you use) without getting clogged up.

    • @pullbackbaby
      @pullbackbaby 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I was thinking the same thing. I would actually try and stack containers. Maybe he could a huge hole in the bottom of one and put some screen to keep the bio media in and stack that on top of another one that is full of filter floss. It might look a little bit better than putting some filter floss around a container. But there is definitely needs to be something from clogging up all that beneficial bacteria 👍🥂

    Put the filter floss on the bottom or along the inside walls so that the media doesn't get clogged with debris. Also might as well run two air stones on that double pump. 😊🥂👍

    Great idea but a smaller diameter lift tube will give you MUCH better flow rate. The large diameter pipe will be limiting pressure from the air stone.

    it actually work for my 24 aquarium.....just doing a few adjustment.....with 3 layer.....sponge, bio media, sponge......at the bottom i put the small hole around and fill full sponge......after that i setup 20mm pipe, putting second layer with bio media, and sponge at the top.....close the canister......and im not sealing the top canister......i just running aquascape shop and wish me luck.....by the way this idea save me a cost a lot......

    Very interesting, I just wish there was some detail as to what is being implemented. It appears to be an air pump only and its being used to create an upward vacuum which pulls water through the media and airates as well, would this work with more dense media? Few helpful details under the video would go a long way. Thank you!

      It's a nice build. Just do your best to be creative and make wood you need work for you. If you have a super big tank you could probably pull this off using a 2 l bottle and stacking them together maybe three of them using the very top one to hold the pipe.. idk 👍🙏🥂

    I would be to cut a piece of filter sponge/mat to size and rap around the inside covering the holes to provide mechanical filtration before the biological filtration, otherwise a good filter.

      @Do thuan My thuat khi sục khí bong bóng nước nổi lên sẽ tạo áp lực để đẩy nước ra khỏi ống nhưng áp lực nó khá yếu và lực hút ko mạnh cái này chỉ thích hợp cho hồ nhỏ. làm cái ống nhỏ bằng 1/2 bịt đầu trên và đục vài cái lổ ở trên và ở dưới nước thì lực hút chắc sẽ mạnh hơn sẽ tạo dc dòng chảy ngằm với sục khí và lọc nước sẽ hiệu quả hơn

    So the Biomedia gets flooded with unfiltered Water. You should allways let the Sponge do the first Filtration that the Pores of Biomedia dont get extremely dirty.

    your bio media should have been above the filter floss because right now all the debris is going to clog the bio media as its first in line. Also I'd say instead of hot glue, silicone (aquarium silicone) should be used to hold better. Good general idea but honestly not worth all this effort to build something for such a low rate of filtration. Filters can be had pretty cheap with pumps.

    • @davidschmidt270

      Ummm....I know your comment is a yr old but....I was wondering where one might get some cheap pumps and filters????

    • @billbannochie457

      This would be great in case of a power cut. Put your media from your aquarium filter into this and connect to a usb charged air pump and keep alive until power is back on. Will definitely make one as an emergency back up.

    • @svtcontour
      @svtcontour 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@davidschmidt270 Sorry for the late reply - basically whats being done here is not all that different than a sponge filter and an air pump. You can get a large sponge filter for $15 and obviously you'd need the air pump just like in the video.

    • @pullbackbaby
      @pullbackbaby 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@svtcontour sponge filters are very cheap on Amazon as well. I see them for $5 sometimes. Depends on the size I guess. What this filter has the potential of is similar to some I've seen using k1 media. The sponge filter should always be first though and then the biological so you can actually stack one of these on top of a sponge filter and get better results. The only problem being room inside the tank to do all of this 😂

    Not done to make holes that high up. Only at the bottom and low at the side you want holes. In the way you do this the water is running partly over the big filter mass but mostly only over the cotton. You want all the water passes all the media not only the cotton.
