- Update on video at December 22, 2020: Reading taken by the salinity meter is actually in % salinity. I kept reading the displayed result as PPT but I'm suppose to say %. Sorry for the mix up and thanks to Wilson for raising this matter to me.

I raise the salinity 0.5% salinity. Then I keep that for a week. After that the salinity goes back to normal levels as an effect of my partial daily water change.

Norman Long lets bring it down to basic bro. For a 5 ppt reading it will be 5 grams of salt dissolved in 1,000 mL or 1 liter of water.
I hope na gets mo bro yung relation ng amount ng salt sa amount water. Yan ang sinusukat sa ppt, yung relation ng dalawang input na yan. Weight ng salt to volume ng water.

There's not really an exact time line. Personally I do it every 4 months. Mura lang naman kasi yung salt and parang routine ko na for my pond.

So ano po talaga ang tamang sukat ng salanity para sa koi pond natin?
Dipende sa intention ng paggamit mo ng salt. For very stressed koi minsan abot yan 6 PPT salinity.
Pero para sa bago lang sa pond salting I recommend to limit muna to 3 PPT salinity if ever you want to try salting your pond. To gain experience and competence in salting. Observe the behavior of the koi, oberserve the water. Parang ito yung learning experience for you.
Once kampante ka na you can then move to higher levels of salinity like 5.0. You'll need a very accurate salt meter in doing this.

Thanks for your knowledge, however, you did not tell how long to stop feeding koi during treatment.
Hello, if there is a koi under stress then feeding should be temporarily stopped. Even if you're not in the pond salting process. This is done to help the filter make the water in its best quality for the koi. No feeding, less or no poop, and with the filters still working you'll get better water quality to favor the recovering of a stressed koi.
However for periodic pond salting like what I do regularly, with no koi under stressed, I feed at the usual amount and frequency.

@@thekoipondexperience1259 I am concerning that up to one week now with 0.60 saltwater koi getting better but still not good swimming and some with red body and fin.
@@houngnov1 longest I did not feed my koi was 24 days. And they did ok. Koi sellers who ship koi internationally do so in much longer days. So don't worry about them not getting fed.
Focus on water quality effects by not feeding temporarily that will accelerate the koi's own ability to heal itself or its immune system.

Hey bro, can you describe to me how the koi is behaving now? is it lethargic, stationary at the bottom, is it just the one koi or many.
For now as a general approach, don't feed them. Let's allow the filtration to go to work & have an advantage in the battle of water quality. Because if you have good water quality it will usually help the koi self heal via their immune system, which for many times I have relied so much.
Two koi is acting bad..the female has red scales and doesn’t move much the male has red spot on the side and moving fast, scratching himself on the rocks. Ok i wont feed them for how many days?
@@gioangeles5077 At the least no feeding for 5 days in this case. Looks serious. Don't worry your koi will be fine fasting, I did a no feeding for 21 days in 2 occasions already. Kois are good at fasting.
Back on your pond, please do daily partial water change. 10% partial water change is good enough. if your confident your water has no chlorine do a 20% partial water change. Do this daily for 5 days too.
Let's fix your water.
if you can supplement your pond aeration and water pump it will help a lot so that your filtration system can double time in their work.

Good information. How many month we can do this salt treatment. Can you please explain.
In times when I do my periodic pond salting, I keep the pond at 0.5% salinity for 2 to 3 weeks straight. After that I stop re-salting the pond. Then slowly salinity will go down as an effect of my daily partial watering change.

When you put salt do you feed your fish ?
Good question Richard and yes I feed them. In this salting session I kept the salt for 14 days on the pond. I feed normally as usual.
The case will be different though if I salt when I see a stressed fish. I will not feed. Because I need the fish's energy to focus on recovering. Koi can do without food well even until 3 weeks of no feeding. Also the none feeding days will make the water quality better as very less poop will be produced. The filtration system will really clean the pond water because of this. These things plus the salt will benefit a stressed fish in its effort to recovery. I really put a big trust on the fish's immune system. This is the reason behind my approach.

3 PPT is a good minimum specially for keepers that are new to pond salting. Then maximum is 5 PPT once you get competent in the whole idea of salting. You can actually do 6 PPT but make sure your equipment is accurate & you monitor the koi often. My entire pond underwent a week of 6 PPT salinity one time when I had a trouble introducing a new koi.

@@jdypong6066 Good question, I apply the Probiotics in the koi food pellets. They would be ingested by the koi in under 5 minutes and head to the koi digestive system so it's perfectly fine.
I believe those Probiotics bacteria are hardy enough to survive in the stomach, so they would definitely survive a 5 PPT salinity of water.

Ako medyo masipag, daily ako mag partial water change. After ng water change, mag aaply ulit ako ng salt para ibawi yung salinity na nabawasan.
May salt meter naman kaya very convenient gawin plus affordable naman ang salt.

@@jehjuaini4155 Yes, I do mine every 4 months even if totally healthy mga koi gaya ng sa video na ito. One week to 10 days yan salted ang pond then after that slowly mawawala yung salt as effect ng daily partial water change ko.

Sir is 0.3% or 0.5% is recommended?
Hello Ray, if it's your first time to salt at these levels then I recommend to start at 0.3% first. When reaching this salinity level observe your pond, like how the application of salt affects your water clarity, sometimes bubbles are formed at the surface of the water. Also observe how the koi behave now at 0.3% salinity.
You have to be consciously aware of the changes. Once you become competent in the changes, then you can try to go higher at 0.4% or 0.5% or even 0.6%.
I only used cheap salt meter the TDS&EC I still don't understand the reading of this device
@@denraypaglinawan2573 Oh don't base a reading from a TDS meter when salting your pond. Salinity meter is what you need to have.
TDS meter measures the Total Dissolved Solids and not just the salt in the water. This is a totally different equipment. The reading you will get from a TDS will most like be an over reading. Since it will account not only the salt but other dissolved solids as well present in your water.
A sample over reading could be 4.0 PPT form a TDS meter and only 2.5 PPT from a salinity meter.
I tested just now sir the result is 1515 ppm sir how to convert that sir?
