Old water towers are often used as viewing platforms here in europe - especially old brick ones. Often, you'll have a cafe with a view inside it, too! :)
Not to mention into houses, penthouses and/or apartments. It's not just a European thing. It's a lot cheaper to convert old water towers (especially brick or concrete) into something useful than to tear it down and build something. Long with the other benefits of reusing old buildings.

Since we've already established that Nicolet Bay is within intercity bus distance... perhaps some of Tim Kequom's relatives owned the farmland that eventually became the town, which was named Kequom Hill in their honor. (And knowing about the farming background in his family tree later helped inspire Tim to establish Ojibwa Organics.)
Great idea, this also gives a good name for Kequom park in the center of town. Phil, not sure if you've discovered this yet but you can relocate ruins, old mills, and other artifacts on the map, would be so cool to see that added in somewhere!

Honestly that little attention to detail about how when you're driving here in America and you see the fast food places right off the exit and think "Oh! I'm kinda hungry, let's stop for a burger" is really really cool. No matter where you drive here in America unless it's a highway in the desert region, you will almost always see signs for places like Mc Donald's, Burger King, Taco Bell, Subway, Wendy's etc. At every exit
Same here in the Netherlands. A lot of highway exits have fastfood and car dealerships connected to them. Overnight hotels are also pretty common, which in the US would more likely be a motel if I understand it correctly.
A lot of the houses in Sunnyside Field reminded me of Lutz, the town in Edward Scissorhands. So maybe a name like "Lutzville" or "Lutzdale" would be appropriate!

I love all the energy and passion you put into your videos. It makes them super enjoyable to watch and learn from. I’m working on a small town region myself that mimics much of the American West small town feel. In the American West it’s often a fire district that spans several communities within say 20 miles, it’s a sheriff who patrols the entire county, and there aren’t even police officers. There aren’t massive interchanges, it’s literally a two lane highway that turns into Main Street and back onto the highway(there might be 3 lane passing lane on hills) The handful of commercial businesses on Main Street rely on the highway traffic coming through. Skylines and SimCity have always been geared towards massive cities and the economics suggest it but I don’t see any reason why there can’t be smaller services in an expansion pack. A few items… Small cemeteries, sheriffs office could be an administrative office who patrol highways and dirt roads instead of towns, smaller fire department or even allowing a district to have a “volunteer fire department” made up of citizens which is a very real thing for say a community of 200 people. Another commercial zone called tourism and/or a commercial zone called services. A small post office. A small town would have a gas station or two, a couple bars, maybe a restaurant. They might have some commercial geared towards highway drivers and tourism like antique stores. Instead of a car dealership it might be a tractor and implement dealer. I know you love to build regions and small towns and you have the power and voice to push for a “small town” expansion pack and I really hope you think about making that video. I think it would be a big hit and add so much more depth to the game. Thanks for all you do!

I always liked the idea of creating regional towns. I think that's what drew me to SimCity where you had a huge region and built one tile at a time. Then you can create connections to them so everything connected.
The thing about the cemetery is that it will conform to the roads around it; even if they're placed after its built. It's actually pretty cool because you can make the whole thing follow a hill.
For cementary (also schools and some other assets) you can add adjacent paths along the limits of the object. This allows you to connect paths to exits form cementary (almost). :)
I think one thing to keep in mind with the slope terrain tool is that the slope is always along the straight line between the top and bottom point. Meaning that it does not take into account any curve you add between the two points.
Not a comment about anything specific in this video, but I really love Master Planned Music's Detailing. The section when the trumpets kick in tickles my brain.
Edgewater. I suggested this name in the last video for the Evergreen End district, but I figured it could work for this town too. Hope you can use it for one of these two places.
Beautiful as always. My only gripe is the the "large roads" with sidewalks/parking outside of the little downtown area or connecting that to the interstate seem out of place, especially.when serving maybe... Six households. I really wanted to use CS2 to become a creator myself but goddamn the stuff I make looks so bad by comparison haha. Keep up the good work.
Phil, as an Upper Midwesterner who grew up in a rural area, I really loved this episode. You did a great job of creating a rural feel. (And for the record, even in CS1, I found myself building regional communities and slowly growing them together. I really appreciate the smaller map tiles in CS2 and how you can purchase non-contiguous areas like this!
You should name the town Beverly, after the Beverly family that founded the farms and community around it. I'd also think it would have more residents than workers, as an outlying town to the major metro area some residents would commute in to the city for work
Kippen Point A small group of Dutch settlers came to the area and found the land to be exceptionally fertile, producing a surplus of grains which laid the foundation for a thriving poultry industry. Though originally named De Vries (as the settlers were from Friesland, a coastal region of the Netherlands), local wags 'renamed' the town after its most prominent industry - raising chickens.
20:30 The way the cemetery asset flattens the land is confusing to me. Cemeteries, and especially cemetery-parks like that one are commonly made on hills for the purpose of rain runoff. In general I wish more assets in this game conformed to topography better
Where you made the vegetables farm, you could consider to leave space as well. Plant wild flowers for insects to move around easier. Maybe also consider planting trees around for animals such as roe deer and foxes to move to other parts of the forrests.
Wow, my city is rezoning my property and it made me think of you! I live in a little city close to the downtown area of a large metropolitan city and my city has plans to try and grow our small “downtown” to try and compete with the surrounding other little cities that make up the metropolitan. They wanted to increase the density of housing that surrounds the little downtown area. They changed the zoning from single family to medium density, in order to attract developers to grow our little downtown area. Good news is, that I don’t have move, and I am in control of my property. But if there is an offer from a developer, I probably can get a lot more than what’s it’s worth as a single family home! While this was going on at city council meetings, all I could think about was City Planner Plays and how much I love watching your stuff. It actually feels like I’m part of the game now 😂
I have no idea why I'm so invested in a tutorial series for a game I don't own, can't afford, and just barely exceed the absolute minimum specs for, but this is truly fascinating seeing how you make decisions about what goes where and micromanage things to make them work better.
Thank you so much for this series, showing us all the tricks to make our cities realistic is super valuable. I really appreciate all the work going into this.
Great video! This is specially great for me as I want to make Portuguese maps! Portuguese system is hard to understand, even for a native, but essentially our municipalities aren't cities and our cities aren't municipalities, and some places you can't even tell what's a city or not. A municipality is a government level comprised of one or multiple parishes, and it depends a lot on where you are as to what's a city or not. Lisbon, for example, is regarded as a city, but it is comprised of 24 parishes, none of which are named Lisbon, which is usually a must in a municipality: One parish is the seat of the council, and gives its name to the municipality. If you cross the river, you'll see another municipality, Seixal, which is a city and, among other parishes, has Corroios, which is classified as a town, so essentially a town within a city, and it is far from the only example as there are tons of examples where some places are defined as cities or towns, effectively controlled by another city, and other places have no classification. Parishes can also be joined by decree, forming parish unions that have the same government and being treated individually as former/defunct parishes, which results in some weird results, such as Corroios being its own parish, but Seixal, the seat of the municipality and you'd assume to be the main place in, well, Seixal, is a defunct parish that shares its government with two other defunct parishes. Barreiro, right next to it, is another example, as Barreiro is a municipality but also a defunct parish that is now run together with another parish. Most of these things have wildly varied historical reasons which are very hard to convey in Cities: Skylines I, or even Sim:City 2013 with its regions. This new feature finally allows me to create a "main" parish, slowly grow it, and over time simulate the founding of satellite parishes near it, all part of the same municipality, and the city hall can be moved around the parishes as history gives them the reasons to change their seat, just like real life. In my municipality, for example, a satellite parish eventually outgrew the main parish, this becoming the main one and relocating the city hall... Sadly we also don't have actual city halls, but a version of a city hall which runs the municipality, and then a town hall that runs the parish, both coexisting and having different functions, but that's a whole another story for another day, but essentially the city hall runs services like water, waste, high schools, etc., while the town hall and the parish mayor are a liaison between citizens and the municipal mayor, they make sure the city hall is doing their functions as law mandates, and also run some smaller services, such as maintaining public toilets or elementary schools.

Thank you for your time making these videos. I was stuck and not enjoying CS2 until your previous video helped me past my block. You continue to inspire and educate me. Thank you.
This! This is what had me geeked out from the start, and what I missed from Sim City 4. Individual and unique regions that could specialize and fully integrate into a metropolis.
I've just started playing myself and finding your videos really useful ❤ thank you. I would really love to see a video on common problems (or complaints from citizens) encountered and how to trouble shoot! At the minute I have lots of shops saying the have no customers!! (Mainly petrol stations)... Some people moaning about high rent. Also struggling to understand finer mechanics and when I should adjust taxes and things x
My greatest flaw in these games is having 0 insight of planning, layouts etc. I kinda just build. Which means it’s functional, but doesn’t look real. You definitely help out with the thought process behind this stuff. Love the Channel
@CityPlannerPlays I just started playing CS2 and I've been following this series from the beginning. For the area that you have has Sunnyside Field, I renamed mine to Cliffside Bluff. I made the shorelines along this area to look more like what you might see in Dover, England. My area was originally called Autum Springs when I made the district. Also, I added a medical center to this area so the residents could be independent of the main city.
Now what that region needs next is a radio station, with you providing top-of-the-hour station IDs. (It would be cool to have something like that in-game.)
you are turning me into a city planner, ok so im lacking in many areas but I wont just flatten the whole map anymore with this ep it shows clearly the rise and fall of the roads, its lovely and natural looking so im mimicking where I can, good job placing the water tower, its not cost-effective but you do see them irl. Name suggestion, Viewpoint.
Fantastic video, as always.... I had never even thought of doing separate cities or maybe boroughs. This makes it more like Sim City 4 (I think) where you could build several independent cities and have them interact. This opens up a whole new way to play the game. Using the district tool is a great way to assess the individual cities but it would be great if we could get a City (district tool) and then within that district (city) we could set up further districts. That way would make it super realistic. Several cities all with individual districts within them.... Id like your thoughts if you read/see this comment. If not keep up the great work.
I like the road stub for a future bridge. I've seen this a couple of time in some towns. In my small town there is a fast road (similar to a federal highway), that currently ends here and has a small stub where there is planning for it to continue one day.
Little tip with grading roads. You can grade over an existing road. The terrain wont change until you delete the road though. Just draw your road out, select the appropriate size grade brush for the road your using and trace over the road at the elevation you want. Delete the road and the terrain snaps to the elevation you drew in. Redraw your road over the newly graded terrain and your good to go. I use this to create canyons through hills and mountains and sunken roadways. You can make some clean looking walls of terrain with it too.
Beautiful! That remaining open area between the highway and the edge of the tile would be perfect for some rural houses. The vanilla cemetery leaves a lot to be desired, I can't wait to see some custom ones that conform to terrain and do not always appear full and do not have massive parking lots. Actually I don't think I've ever seen more than 5 parking spots at any civilian cemetery, and even that felt odd seeing them.
The best gameplay of all, I love the way you make your reasonings in order to reach the realistic appearance, the editing, the pace, very much enjoyable, thank you. Also, I'd like to note that when comparing residents to jobs, it's better to consider the working population (i.e. adults) vs jobs, in this case there's a bit of unbalance, 250 vs.~450.
When you're doing farm land you will find small homes on a dirt road with pines squared around the home for wind breaks. Great work. I've learned alot about the game.
I love building separate cities, i love how i look for something i need like farming or oil and build the small things i need to support that, and sometimes they grow into cities of their own, sometimes they cap out at towns or stay small villages its very enjoyable and i love doing that
I think CS2 needs a few more smaller cemetery assets. The current cemetery is beautiful but it’s also gigantic. Small town cemeteries are usually a lot smaller and simpler.
the city looks so much better with the snow melted but I also love the realism of the seasons. Such a cool game and you're amazing. Thanks for the entertainment ❤
A simple name that fits a random little town id expect to find out there - Clayton, Clay's town. Named after the 'Clay' family that were the original settlers who farmed this area. The wheat farm is still owned by the great grandchildren of the original Clay who also owned much of the land that was used for downtown but has long since been sold off into other hands or donated to the city, such as the park - except the cemetary, which is still owned by another descendant. This is one reason why ive been absolutely loving this game - the opportunity to juat create chill little hamlets and small towns that fill the voids in areas around the US, each with their own little story and background.
the possebillity of creating actual seperate villages and towns around the main city at further distences is an absolute gamechanger in my eyes. that was always so hard with any previous citybuilers.

Just discovered this game on Gamepass! So cool so far. Your videos have been the ultimate tutorial for getting started.
Im really liking this series. Ive been building along with you and its a lot of fun
You should name the town Beverly, after the Beverly family that founded the farms and community around it.
I'd also think it would have more residents than workers, as an outlying town to the major metro area some residents would commute in to the city for work
Kippen Point
A small group of Dutch settlers came to the area and found the land to be exceptionally fertile, producing a surplus of grains which laid the foundation for a thriving poultry industry. Though originally named De Vries (as the settlers were from Friesland, a coastal region of the Netherlands), local wags 'renamed' the town after its most prominent industry - raising chickens.
City Planner Plays never fails to deliver industrial resources inside us
Huh?

The music in this episode was top tier as always. I love the dedication to all the small things, it made a difference for me!
20:30 The way the cemetery asset flattens the land is confusing to me. Cemeteries, and especially cemetery-parks like that one are commonly made on hills for the purpose of rain runoff. In general I wish more assets in this game conformed to topography better
I don't know why but the way you say "contour lines" just makes me feel amazing. Great video!
Where you made the vegetables farm, you could consider to leave space as well. Plant wild flowers for insects to move around easier. Maybe also consider planting trees around for animals such as roe deer and foxes to move to other parts of the forrests.
Love your videos. The city tour is always a delight. Incredible editing! Thanks very much!
😊 you told me to show engagement. I just got engaged one month ago 💍
My sympathies.
It actually feels like I’m part of the game now 😂
I think the name "Underbridge" is perfect for this new little community
no
I have no idea why I'm so invested in a tutorial series for a game I don't own, can't afford, and just barely exceed the absolute minimum specs for, but this is truly fascinating seeing how you make decisions about what goes where and micromanage things to make them work better.
Thanks for the tips! But is it me or there's a typo? I think you spelled "Twotoria"! 😂
Thank you so much for this series, showing us all the tricks to make our cities realistic is super valuable. I really appreciate all the work going into this.
Dude, I'm loving your content. I'm honestly having such a great time building this town alongside your videos!
I love the editing you did on the city tour. It looks so good! 😊
Sadly we also don't have actual city halls, but a version of a city hall which runs the municipality, and then a town hall that runs the parish, both coexisting and having different functions, but that's a whole another story for another day, but essentially the city hall runs services like water, waste, high schools, etc., while the town hall and the parish mayor are a liaison between citizens and the municipal mayor, they make sure the city hall is doing their functions as law mandates, and also run some smaller services, such as maintaining public toilets or elementary schools.
this is probably one of the best videos you made, idk why, I just enjoyed every second of it! lots of useful info for new players and some nice tips for us as well, gj man!
I just love these videos so much! I’m never going to play city skylines but these videos are so soothing
Hey Phil, I really love your Ultimate Beginners Guides. I already watched ALL of your UBG videos for CS1 and will do the same for CS2. Keep up the great work! Cheers, man!
Thank you!! Working on the next episode or Saturday!
My engagement emoji for today: 😊
Thanks for the video once again!
Kirkwood farms sounds like a good district name!
This was my favourite of the series so far
I've just started playing myself and finding your videos really useful ❤ thank you.
I would really love to see a video on common problems (or complaints from citizens) encountered and how to trouble shoot! At the minute I have lots of shops saying the have no customers!! (Mainly petrol stations)... Some people moaning about high rent.
Also struggling to understand finer mechanics and when I should adjust taxes and things x
Bridgeport seems like a great name for this new place! It's right off of the bridge connection!
Haven’t played a city planner game since SimCity2000, thanks for making this series! It’s a big help getting started 💪
you are turning me into a city planner, ok so im lacking in many areas but I wont just flatten the whole map anymore with this ep it shows clearly the rise and fall of the roads, its lovely and natural looking so im mimicking where I can, good job placing the water tower, its not cost-effective but you do see them irl.
Name suggestion, Viewpoint.
Bro thank you so much for all of this content! You and your editor must be going overtime rn lol
Something like a municipality tool. I like it.
I like the road stub for a future bridge. I've seen this a couple of time in some towns. In my small town there is a fast road (similar to a federal highway), that currently ends here and has a small stub where there is planning for it to continue one day.
Enjoyed the episode. Fascinating to see how differently CS2 gameplay is from the OG CS1. Learning so much as a result of your videos. Thanks!
Been playing CS2 here and there and loving so far. Always look forward to your videos!! Keep up the great workk!
i have the flu 😷 but chilling at home watching Phil is making everything better
You need a bus rout to your main town, it makes the new area easier to live if you know you can access larger areas, at least in reality.
“We have a bar, a bar, and a cemetery” yeah no that definitely checks out for a small town 😭😭
That's a great point, tbh
When you're doing farm land you will find small homes on a dirt road with pines squared around the home for wind breaks. Great work. I've learned alot about the game.
These are some of the most relaxing videos I've watched recently.
Every new video in this series is a treat!
This is one reason why ive been absolutely loving this game - the opportunity to juat create chill little hamlets and small towns that fill the voids in areas around the US, each with their own little story and background.
the possebillity of creating actual seperate villages and towns around the main city at further distences is an absolute gamechanger in my eyes. that was always so hard with any previous citybuilers.
you can drag when selecting operating districts to select them all, quick tip
I won't play CS II anytime soon but I still enjoy listening to you, thanks for sharing
Thanks as always for making another really relaxing and informative video
