Here in New York City, it’s very common to see quite a lot of 40 tonne excavators like this komatsu being used on a small residential block like this for sewer and water main work
Given that trenching and achieving the right grade (for the pipe) is nearly always the slowest part of a pipeline operation, I don't feel this excavator is too big for the job. A bigger excavator makes easier to jockey the trench shield about, and it makes the breaking out of the concrete layer on top easier as well.

I'm in the Chicago area and they are actually pretty common here too.
Ain't no such thing as too big for the job 🤣👍🤠
Hell yeah! I was kind of thinking that it’s a little too small!
Bro is a hack 😬
The "Operator" is WAY to jerky on the machine. Too big? Nope. Wrong guy in the machine? Absolutely.
I would not want to be in that trench box lol
I have NEVER seen such a butcher on a machine like this.

That's not a big one, one time I saw one on a job like this that loaded trucks in one pass
50 ton machine is pretty big for that job 30 ton machine would have just been fine
Painful to watch
Not too big.
Thats not what your sister said last night
Wouldn’t that be a insult tho.? 😂
