You know Kevin, it's always hard to fathom, as a yankee from the northeast, the variances of life from one part of the country to another, within the same time period. While Seth Bullock was in his later years, my grandfather was a race car driver!! I have a photo of him with his 1911 Chalmers, at a race track in Cuba. Trying to balance Teddy Roosevelt, Seth Bullock, cowboys and guns, the west, etc,...when someone in ohio is repeatedly taking off for cuba to race cars, is such a strange juxtaposition!!! 😅

Have you tried to Google car racing in Cuba? As someone who has always enjoyed the sport I wanted to see what these 1911 cars looked like sadly all I found was cars from the 1950’s. Google could be wrong of course

@etainshewolf7140 hi there! Yes I have tried, and so far haven't gotten anywhere with googling that period...the actual photo I have came to me from my grandmother...there was a note inscribed to the backside of which car he was racing that day of the photo. On that 1911, you can see the oiling levers which had to be used as well, whilst racing! However, no exact date of that event...I know he had to give up racing before my grandma would marry him (he promptly did, and off they eloped!!) So I know he wasn't racing after after 1919 at the latest. Google seems so boggy anymore..not like the good old days for them either, I'm agreed !! Best wishes to you, too :)

@@globalheart Thank you for replying back. That’s a nice story to go with your history. I don’t blame your grandma making him give up racing, from what I know about early motor racing there wasn’t much safety and she wanted to keep her man. Best wishes to you too

I hope you're having - or have had - a great time in the US, Kevin. A great choice of location to visit, in my opinion, is Deadwood.
I'd love to soak up the atmosphere and history of the place. It's fascinating to hear about those legendary Wild West figures. I must say, it's a topic and period in time that has me spellbound.
The romance. Despite places like Deadwood for a time existing beyond the law almost, the sense of being somewhere relevant in the early years must've been tremendously exciting. The boom years. Towns popping up, jobs and wealth being generated. The burgeoning US juggernaut. Progress being forged. The palpable electricity in the air. And the characters, of course! Must've been an amazing time and place to experience!
Thanks for bringing us all this wonderful information! 👍

How wonderful to have you in the states for a post. Being a military man if you ever come over to extreme upstate New York in Essex County on Lake Champlain there is Fort Ticonderoga and Fort Crown Point. Fort Crown Point was the largest British military installation in North America. And Fort Ticonderoga has a storied history of both French and Indian War battles and Revolutionary conflicts. Many British soldiers gave their lives there and deserve to be remembered. There is also a ghost story involving a Scottish Highland nobleman named Duncan Campbell. Just south of there is Lake George and Fort William Henry with more British military history some very sad for civilians and soldier alike. As always, I love the way you deliver information. When I was there as a child, in the 1980s, my parents and grandparents took us to the saloon where Hickock was shot. They had the chair he was sitting in and his cards he had been holding, up on the wall behind the bar. "Dead man's hand" We toured the gold mine and the opium dens. I've heard it is very different now. It was a special event for our family in the 1980s. My mother had read all of the Laura Ingalls Wilder books to us. She and Dad were history buffs, especially American Western History. We followed the Ingalls's Trail from Wisconsin to South Dakota. I think part of Mom's interest started when her Aunt and Uncle moved her Uncle's Dentistry business to South Dakota, another Aunt and Uncle retired just outside Rapid City and my grandparents took my Mom and Aunt out to visit. Dinosaur Hill didn't have steps yet when they were out there in the 1950s. Beautiful place. Beautiful memories. Thank you, Kevin for covering this cemetery in our Old West. I remember the hike.

Never been to Deadwood, have so much respect for Wild Bill and Calamity Jane truly greats of the wild west, same with Seth Bullock. Sometime Kevin make your way to the Frank Slide in the Crowsnest Pass in Alberta, been there four times so much history in the area. Great video and thanks again!

That was fun. Deadwood is leafier than I imagined. I'm impressed that they can dig deep enough to plant people on a mountain side like that, without hitting ridge gravel.
