I thought about it but I got scared and now that my son is showing signs of autism, I don't want him to get bullied my second reason. However, I don't know if I can make it.
@Grand Champ are you wanting to start homeschooling? There are lots of resources out there. And many You tube videos for help and also homeschool communities for support. Classical Conversations is a big one, the Good and the Beautiful, some parents pull their own together using different curriculum sources. Saxon Math is a good math curriculum. Maybe try “tips for beginning to homeschool” as a TH-cam search. The good news is there’s a lot out there these days! Blessings!
We are brand new homeschoolers due to Covid and we know we won’t be going back to public school. We are doing Classical Conversations and I’m a bit overwhelmed. Thanks for the video!
About to start homeschooling my daughters because I want them to be God led young women without the pressures of peers who don’t even know what a Bible is...and I have been soooo nervous feeling like maybe I’m not educated enough to do so this just helped me to stop overthinking it. Thank you mama
I'm so glad it was helpful to you! And YOU GOT THIS!!! I had zero education in teaching or homeschooling before I started, but I knew that I loved my kiddos tremendously and had their best interest in mind. I know you have that, and with that desire alone, you will do amazingly!!
I love that you said homeschooling doesn't have to be set up like public school. Being able to have school any where, from the forest in our backyard to my parent's house on the other side of the country is one of the best parts of homeschooling. We love it!
I was homeschooled in the 90s and 2000s, and when I entered public school I realized how effective and valuable that education was. In the future I want to homeschool my kids. This helps me organize some of my thoughts for sure. Thank you so much!
Great tips! I've been homeschooling my son for a year and a half. My husband and I pulled him out of public school mid 3rd Grade. :-) I work from home FT as well. So, we've hired a cleaning crew to come to our house every other week to alleviate the stress and free up some of my time so I can focus on work. I'm looking forward to more videos from you! 💕
That's great Nancy! I love to hear when full time working mommas also homeschool. It's so easy to limit ourselves in fear of the unknown. It definitely helps to hear how others make it work for themselves. Sometimes the simplest thing (like a cleaning crew) can be the biggest life saver!
THIS! I also loved your tips!! I am just exploring how to start homeschooling for this fall while maintaining my FT job which is mostly working from home. Not gonna lie, I'm a little scared that I won't be able to balance it all!
This was GREAT info! It took me a little longer to un-school. We are in our 5th year of homeschooling. I love it. I even love the challenges that it presents.
Last March, I stumbled upon this reading guideline 4ChildrenLearningReading.blogspot.com My son and I have already been really serious in performing reading lessons since then. I`m happy to report that he has been able to read several books on his own now. My boy feels very confident and is performing great in Kindergarten this year.?
I just found this as well. And am nervous about starting to hopefully homeschool my children ages 11 (girl) and 7 ( boy). Thank you for the tips. I wrote them down. 😊 I am looking forward to teaching my children my way and to teach them more about our Lord.
It's so true. So hard not to be fearful right now. I'm so glad it helped! I never would have imagined we would all find ourselves in this current pandemic!
I have a child with asthma considering to homeschool this fall due to Covid... I have no idea how to get started.. do I need to have a lot of contact with school??? ...is the school district constantly involved? My son is going into 1st grade
Agree ! After being told my kids would have to wear a mask for 8 hrs including the bus ride , we decided enough was enough . So done with this covid fear
GIRL! I just found your TH-cam channel and I am the one fan-girlling! Haha! Thank you for all the homeschool info. This will be my first year homeschooling my three kiddos and I'm excited and terrified at the same time but you are definitely putting my heart at ease! Thank you again! Keep posting all the things!
Hey Carrie! You're too funny. I'm so excited for you to begin your first year! Keep it simple and add the "extras" after you find a good pace (something I should have added in the video) ;) You'll rock it, I'm sure!
Just starting homeschooling. Literally, today was our first day and it went wonderfully. Love your videos so far, looking forward to checking out a convention.
Yes! Congrats on your first year! I just went to my very first convention and have been homeschooling for almost 7 years. My advice....GO TO CONVENTION! It was the best thing I have done for our homeschool...probably ever! So good and everything I needed to hear! 💜😊🌼
These are very helpful tips! Very good reminders for me. I homeschool my daughter in her preschool years because she had expressive language delay. She is now reading a grade level higher than she is now at school. She is a first grader and I recently learned that she is now a level N for reading. I will be changing my reason for homeschool now because my son has an anxiety disorder. I will be focusing on social-emotional approach. Thank you! for sharing these tips!
Thank you so much for these tips💖. I have been postponing fulltime homeschooling for a while until the outbreak of Corona virus. I am taking this period as trial run for me. Thank you🌼
My kiddo is 18months for the last 6 Iv been doing a lot of research on homeschooling. Your 5 tips align with my direction. Thank you for sharing. We are really excited about this journey.
I gave piano lessons for Spanish lessons, algebra, geometry, haircuts for my family and floor cleaning as well as a few other creative barters. Go ahead and barter whatever you have and need.
I needed this, thank you!! We've talked about homeschooling in the past but never really got serious about it. Recently we have started to actually research it. I am beyond nervous and still have so many questions but I know in my heart this is for us!
I can totally relate to this for sure! As a new homeschooler and someone documenting my new homeschool journey on TH-cam, its nice to see others in the community and what they are doing.
You are SO right! Mimicking traditional school at home is SO unnecessary. It's set up for the masses. Kids can receive SO much more individualized attention at home in a much more comfortable and relaxed way. So, they are able to learn at a much quicker rate. Awesome video!
Loved your 5 tips : ) I totally relate to your #1 tip - Like you, and probably like many, I tried to recreate school at home when I first started homeschooling * eye roll * (what was I thinking?!). Thankfully that's changed dramatically over time.... Re: your tip #3 - I wish we had homeschool conventions here in the UK....maybe we do but I have not discovered them yet * sad face * bc I love curriculum! I guess my top tip would be: To trust in the fact that you know your child better than anyone else and do what works for your child, for you and the unique shape of your family.
Great video! my tip is to find creative ways to get your kids to enjoy each lesson. And the tip you gave about being focused during school time is key to accomplishing so much in one day. I have a business too and like you mentioned, it could be a huge distraction during school time; my first child calls me out on that each time. I am still learning to put my phone and computer aside and wait until our lessons are over.
Loved this! I just went ahead and started writing a homeschooling blog and this is video is so similar to the post I’m working on now! Great tips! The number one thing that I like to tell people is that “what works for one doesn’t necessarily work for the next, so be open to trying different things!”. :)
We just came across your channel and love it! I pulled our son out of public school last week and I was feeling a little overwhelmed but I know it's going to be worth it. Thanks for all of your information!
My first time watching and oh my goodness you are so helpful and cute! I love that your reason for homeschooling is because you want to raise good godly boys!!!! Such a great answer.
This is so good! I have the same experience in a lot of ways. I've been homeschooling my kids for 9 years now and sometimes it feels like I don't know what I'm doing. LOL!
You are so adorable! This is my first year starting homeschool for my son who is now in 4th grade ❤ I'm so glad I stumbled upon your channel. I need all the advice I can get!
This was such a great video! For someone that is about to start homeschooling this is so helpful. And it keeps it real. I love hearing the bad too. It helps me to prepare myself mentally that there will be struggles. Can't wait for next video.
I just found your channel, and let me say, you remind me so much of a cousin of mine! I just started homeschooling my 9 year old boy (we are currently de-schooling and will actually start school in the fall) and I'm so glad I found this video. Very helpful.
Great tips. I find that mimicking a classroom also takes up more time and children do not focus. I teach while I cook and amswer questions all the time my little ones interrupt so much but they learn and pick up from my sons work. Just remember homeschooling is 1 on 1 learning, ecen if you have more kids. It is stil better than one teacher with a classroom full of kids.
Thank-you so much, Maureen! I just started the Shelter in Place mandated homeschooling and you've saved me with the 1st tip because I was trying to follow the exact school schedule - unsuccessfully!
Thank you for this😘... I'm a planner..my daughter is 21months... And I started "teaching" her... Play is teaching.. And reinforcing her learning with small videos....she already recognizes a dew letters and says it... Knows to count to 5 but we count to 20 together....sign lannguage.. Mu h im greatful for..and Im excited to look into Abeka bc it gives you word for word to say....to help with the struggle subjects. 🙏🏾 Im exited! 🙌🏾💜
For chore like things that you want to hire someone for-hire your kids!! Make them apply for a job, (mow lawn, shovel snow, bag leaves, water flowers, walk dog, clean bathrooms, clean floors), choose which chore each child can do(but challenge them), train them-you have training to do when you get a normal job, and put them to work and pay them. Or you could train your kids in all the things and see which child took an interest in what. That way they know how to do each, but what they do interests them-ish. Then re-evaluate one on one at the end of the year on what they liked and didn’t like about their job, and new jobs they want. But also show that if something isn’t working out in that job, that they can request to meet with you. I’ve seen this great idea where moms host a camp for there kids to learn to cook, clean, do laundry, water, mow, shovel, and bag leaves. Obviously some of these you can’t do all at the same time (but maybe in 2020 that’s possible) but by the end of the summer a five year old was sorting, washing, drying, and folding their entire families laundry.
Jennifer Ruiz I plan on starting next week. I was told by the school secretary that I need to speak with the guidance counselor first before I pull my kids out. I live in NJ.
My husband is a public school teacher. I have been having a tugging at my heart for 2 years to homeschool. Now we are having a forced free trial. My husband has always had a hard no. It is nice having him home and witness this starting to happen and deciding as a family how this is going to work has been such a blessing. I haven’t decided if we are going back to traditional school. My kids have been in dual immersion so this adds a whole other level of obstacles to overcome.
Maureen Wilkinson it is a mess! With sb98 passing all of our places we got from open enrollment with intent to enroll have been taken back due to funding in our local charter homeschools we applied to. My husbands district ordered to be home this next year. My children are in dual immersion and to keep them home we would have to pull them from this program we have dedicated 6 years to. We are between a rock and a hard place. We really want to stay with dual immersion. My husband had so much training for online learning and I know my children’s district has as well. I am hoping that when we start they have it together. I am waiting on the district of my children to announce their plans.
These are valuable tips that every parent should know 🥰 We would love to partner with you! Learning a new language can bring a great set of new tips to share😄
Who are you and where did you come from?! LOL THANK YOU, for making this video. Just what I needed to hear and learn. Thank you again, first time homeschooler 8/2020
I'm on the stage of planning to homeschool my kids this coming academic year and really praying to start it right. That's why I keep watching youtube vlogs about homeschool and amzaingly, I am learning I even jotted significant and practical tips. Thank you so much for sharing practical & real tips Maureen. Hope to hear from you soon :) God bless!
I think with homeschooling, it would be much better . This is the way it should be, The kids are safe, no bullying, so kids wont have long term scars, mental illness. No kids will be getting lured into cars with strangers. You know your kids won't be victim of teacher/ student sexual conduct. You can hug your kids day and night. Peace of mind, heart and soul. ❤
hi hun listen I have a great tip for you and the floors. they sell a robot that mops the floors and docks inself and even cleans itself they also have one that does both vacuuming and mopping its awesome. you really should look into it take care
thank you for the video we will starting second year of homeschooling this year. we will be using the good beautiful. our first year was struggle and very hard lots of trails and errors but that's ok its a learning experience for me as well. thanks for the tips
We are going to be starting our second year next year as well. Can I ask what ages you have and why switching to G&B? I am on the fence of switching to it as well. TIA!
Hey girl!!! Love this video as we are thinking of jumping into homeschool full time!!!! So fun to see you sharing your wisdom on this! Hope you are doing great!
THANK YOU SO MUCH IM SO READY TO START HOMESCHOOLING MY KIDS RIGHT AWAY BUT I WILL WAIT UNTIL MAY 10TH 2020. I WANNA DO MY RESEARCH FIRST AND MEET SOME HOME SCHOOL PARENTS TO GIVE ME SOME GUIDELINES AND A LITTLE SUPPORT...
U r right! I'm a veteran hmschl mom ('90's). #1: relax and ENJOY being w your kids. #2: Look for everyday opportunities to help them learn about their environment. #3: Learn along with them and wonder at our beautiful world #4: Trust the children to show you what they need to know (but also have some kind of plan). Also, you don't have to spend much, esp at the elementary level. Remember to plan some time off for yourself. Know what your state's hmschl law is.
@@Pixics my daughter has attempted a few tests and some are successful. Replanting random cuttings and parts of plants. She takes care of then and then learns which ones come back to life. I get to learnt a thing or to myself.
I just my first video from this channel and noticed that the videos are all a year old. I loved this video and want to subscribe if there will be more videos to look forward to.
That is the first mistake to homeschoolers. When we started we were basically bringing public school to home. We finally realized that we have to be more flexible.
KISS keep it simple sisters Too many complicate homeschooling do not stress and do not compare your homeschooling to others every family is different so is every home schooling family. Also no homeschool is Perfect or even style is perfect. Always reevaluate each year the style of Homeschoolingay change as the children get older. This is From a hs Mom of three that is not retired even though kids are grown and out of the nest
I just started but I already have advice! Go by YOUR child! You can get recommendations from other parents all day long but none of it may work for your child. For example everyone was basically yelling at me for wanting to do structured learning for my 2 and 3 year olds but they (and I) strive on structure! I’m autistic and so is my 3 year old and had I followed everyone else’s advice my 3 year old wouldn’t know her colors or shapes yet.
Our curriculum typically fills our 180 days of schooling we're required to have. End of year testing could help you make the decision of if your child is ready to move on. Our school year for each grade usually lasts us about 10 months.
Great Video! I have just finished my first year of homeschooling, I have 3 boys! And I have tried so hard to have “school at home” it’s been a hard but beautiful year as well! I have a 1st grader going into 2nd. 4 year old and 1 year old! What style did you merge into in homeschooling? I really like the classical but I lean towards trying to keep them in the traditional/ school like manner! It’s exhausting, worrying over the “right curriculum “! But I totally agree with all 5 tips, you are spot on!! And love your hair!( I do hair part time in our home!) ;)
Hi Tracy! Thank you for the compliments!! If I had to pick a style, I would say we are "eclectic." I have an appreciation for all styles of homeschooling, but piecing together our curriculum from a broad range of sources fits my personality best. I've learned my kids will adapt to whatever curriculum I choose, so I go with what excites me to teach them ;)
My mother raised boys (I have a girl) and I often heard my mother bemoan our society's expectations of boys: "boys are bad, unless they act like girls." Our current public school system is very unfriendly towards boys. It is possible to condense math and reading into WAY less than the 7 hour school day, leaving much more time for physical activities. Also, look into your local community college programs. The cost of college is so high now many parents want to get a head start. There is therefore highschool programs at the local community college geared toward employment. The local community college near me will allow home schoolers as young as 14 (targeted towards public school grades 11&12) to begin a welding or first responders coursework paid for by the state (since the public schoolers will be paid for by the state). Consider whether you really want an 18 year old (broad shoulders, beard-growing "boy" finishing up high school classwork at your kitchen table) I have a 9 year old nephew, and i think of him.
Working toward moving away from cyber schooling and getting the confidence to homeschool on my own. Cyberschool was a good transition but it is so structured and not very flexible. We have deadlines to meet. I appreciate your videos.
Cyberschool or the virtual school is very rigid. If you have your feet wet with cyberschool, then homeschooling will be a good transition...And one you'll love bc of the flexibility.
So I've been in cyber school for about 5 years were I do my school over the computer I still get teachers but there over a computer I like it way better than public school
I love your video! Did you start out sending them to public school because my kindergartener is in public school at he moment but starting this fall, we’ve decided to bring him back home for homeschool. We have noticed a huge change in his attitude from his peers and such :( but I LOVE that you want to instill in them how to become Godly young men! Way to go girl!
@@mo_wilkinson I woke up that day a little nervous. But then I decided to find some videos about other mothers that homeschool. I was lead to your video by God because after I watched your video I held my head high and organized my classroom which is my living room right now. I told myself Symphony no matter what believe in yourself and give your children what is best for them and the day went Awesome. I love not just teaching them but also learning along the way with them. God Bless You. Your video really helped me. Thankyou.

Thank for your video, actually my reason for homeschooling is COVID19 keeping my kids and my self healthy and alive as much as possible. I know I can do this even though I have feeling I’m gonna struggle.
Thank you so much for your video!!! This is my first year of homeschooling my daughter is in grade 8, and just wondering if I want to send her back to school next year, what I have to show to the school?

You’re so welcome! I would also love to know how you’re liking CC so far! 😉
How do you start? Do you only teach subjects you are familiar with?
How do kids socialize?

When a child enjoys learning something the child will more likely advance faster in that area of study.

Thank you! I just started tutoring my best friend’s girls.6th and 8th grade. Their curriculum is crazy. They are on the county’s school program.
Can't wait for next video.
onka256 Thank you so much for watching! I’m so happy to hear you found it helpful :)
I just found your channel, and let me say, you remind me so much of a cousin of mine! I just started homeschooling my 9 year old boy (we are currently de-schooling and will actually start school in the fall) and I'm so glad I found this video. Very helpful.
How fun! Best wishes to you guys!
thank you so much for your hard working & sharing these amazing resources
Awe thank you for saying that! I'm glad you enjoy the videos :)
YAY! So glad to hear!
Im exited! 🙌🏾💜
Love that!! Great job momma!!
Thank you! These are great tips! As a new homeschooler and someone documenting my new homeschool journey on TH-cam, I really appreciate your content!
WatchMeHomeschool So glad to hear! ☺️
Brazilian HomeSchool's Mom here !!!🇧🇷 Thanks for the video ! 💚💛
I really really really want to start homeschooling! I just dont know where to start or how to start😫 Im a little intimidated.
Don't be intimidated! The first step is to make the choice to do so! 💜😊
I started today. I just jumped right in.
Jennifer Ruiz I plan on starting next week. I was told by the school secretary that I need to speak with the guidance counselor first before I pull my kids out. I live in NJ.
You can do it!
I’m with you. I want to homeschool but I don’t know how to start
So helpful! My children and I start our homeschool journey next week!
Using these tips for content on our library's homeschool hub. Thanks for sharing such great tips!
Hi Stacy! How is the idea of homeschooling going for you guys now?
Maureen Wilkinson it is a mess! With sb98 passing all of our places we got from open enrollment with intent to enroll have been taken back due to funding in our local charter homeschools we applied to. My husbands district ordered to be home this next year. My children are in dual immersion and to keep them home we would have to pull them from this program we have dedicated 6 years to. We are between a rock and a hard place. We really want to stay with dual immersion. My husband had so much training for online learning and I know my children’s district has as well. I am hoping that when we start they have it together. I am waiting on the district of my children to announce their plans.
Life Hacks by Stacy I can only imagine how stressful that is! Prayers for you guys and that it works out easily and peacefully for you!!

How exciting! Best wishes to you guys! Glad it was helpful :)
Enjoyed your content! I too am a homeschool mama, but in Korea!! Lotsa adjustment since we do not have homeschool community. But HS is the best!
Super love how relatable you are!

I'm sure your second year will be great! :)
We are going to be starting our second year next year as well. Can I ask what ages you have and why switching to G&B? I am on the fence of switching to it as well.

amen! I'm glad there are more believers homeschooling
Love it all!!
There are many methods of school: classical conversations, Charlotte mason (check out simply Charlotte mason channel), Unit studies, etc.
Great tips. This is our first year and I love it so far and so do my kids! Just found your channel and subbed😃👍🏻
Just found you... I needed this!
My garden has been fantastic for teaching my daughter many things including math.
Love it!!
Yes, we are realizing how much science is involved when learning about gardening. It's awesome.
@@Pixics oh so much. Sensory comprehension, basic addition and subtraction, deferred gratification, finesse, reward for ones work, and more.
@@cromwellfluffington1627 I think science class should just be in the Garden..lol
@@Pixics my daughter has attempted a few tests and some are successful. Replanting random cuttings and parts of plants. She takes care of then and then learns which ones come back to life. I get to learnt a thing or to myself.
I just my first video from this channel and noticed that the videos are all a year old. I loved this video and want to subscribe if there will be more videos to look forward to.
floors are the worst! that is totally my weak point and I definitely outsourced it this year 😂
Thanks for the video! I needed this!
I know it can be hard some days!!
Love these tips. Amen to a love of learning and raising Godly young men. Rock on!
That is the first mistake to homeschoolers. When we started we were basically bringing public school to home. We finally realized that we have to be more flexible.
Yes!! ☺️💗
KISS keep it simple sisters Too many complicate homeschooling do not stress
and do not compare your homeschooling to others every family is different so is every home schooling family. Also no homeschool is
Perfect or even style is perfect. Always reevaluate each year the style of

Very informative. Thanks.
We are now enjoying our homeschooling journey. We will be posting our homeschooling videos in our channel.
Your tips were awesome sis. Thank you so much.
How do you know when they finish a grade? I have a 14 17 & 4 yr old. Like how many months would it take per grade cause I'm lost🤦🏻♀️
Our curriculum typically fills our 180 days of schooling we're required to have. End of year testing could help you make the decision of if your child is ready to move on. Our school year for each grade usually lasts us about 10 months.
@@mo_wilkinson Thank you so much
Great Video!
Buy one of those iRobot’s that mops floors.
Great idea! :)
👍🏼
So I've been in cyber school for about 5 years were I do my school over the computer I still get teachers but there over a computer I like it way better than public school
I love your video! Did you start out sending them to public school because my kindergartener is in public school at he moment but starting this fall, we’ve decided to bring him back home for homeschool. We have noticed a huge change in his attitude from his peers and such :( but I LOVE that you want to instill in them how to become Godly young men! Way to go girl!
We actually started in a private school, but didn't pull them from it for any negative reason. I have a video coming on that specifically ;)
Enjoyed the video. This is my first day homeschooling.
How exciting! How was your first day?!
Thankyou.
@@symphonypatricefloyd Praise God girl!!! Thank you for sharing that! So excited for you and your family!! (Also what a beautiful name...Symphony...love it!)
@@mo_wilkinson Thankyou. You’re video really brings a lot of value. I give glory to God for putting your channel in my path. Your video is always going to be a part of me and my families journey with homeschooling. Thankyou So Much.
Thank for your video, actually my reason for homeschooling is COVID19 keeping my kids and my self healthy and alive as much as possible. I know I can do this even though I have feeling I’m gonna struggle.
ValggH27 the struggle can be very real, but you can TOTALLY do it!! :)
Thank you so much for your video!!! This is my first year of homeschooling my daughter is in grade 8, and just wondering if I want to send her back to school next year, what I have to show to the school?
Great information and tips! Thanks for sharing 💕
Elizabeth Loves thank you! 😉
Tip #1. Forget what you thought you knew about schooling.
Tip #2. Don’t go it alone! Find your tribe!!
