David Tennant and Katherine Tate's spots on this list aged like fine wine. Who's next? Also, Carol Ann Ford has in fact returned to the role of Susan as early as December 2010. She was in the 8th Doctor Audio Drama's "An Earthly Child," "Relative Dimensions," "Lucie Miller," and "To The Death." That last one was her final appearance so far as I can tell. Also, An Earthly Child and Relative Dimensions were both Christmas Specials, with the former featuring the original Derbyshire-arranged Doctor Who theme for its opening and closing.
Well there are a few missed. The surviving OG Doctor's have all said they'd love to come back and they even got Tom Baker to do so. The most obvious person who WANTS to come back though but who is unlikely for other reasons is BARROWMAN!! John just is Captain Jack and would return in a heartbeat.

It's funny watching this video in December 2022, lots of exciting stuff happening in the whoniverse and at least some of these are bang on but no spoilers
A few notes: -I totally agree with Billie Piper's comment about "The story being right" to return. Because I think that's the most important thing. There needs to be a reason for these characters to come back and not just "Oh, let's please the fans". But with Doctor Who that has rarely ever happened, so I don't worry too much about that. -I personally hope River Song doesn't come back. Don't get me wrong, I love Alex Kingston, but River's story is done. It was a good decision to keep her out of Thirteen's era because there is really no need for her to be there. -I would LOVE to see Carole Ann Ford come back. I have seen some people in the past talk about who would play Susan if she ever returns and my answer is simple: CAROLE ANN FORD. No one else should play the part as long as she is still alive...With one exception: Claudia Grant, who played her in An Adventure in Space and Time. It just depends really what version of Susan they want to bring back, really. But these are the only two actresses that, in my opinion, are allowed to take on the role. -For Paul McGann, I have always had this scene in mind where a special celebrates the revival of Doctor Who and brings back all the Doctors from 2005 onward (Eccleston dies at the start so he basicly has only one day of filming, must be doable). At the end the Doctors wonder why the villain of the story only succeeded to go as far back in time as "Rose" and not all the way back to 1963. Cue a flashback of one of the Doctors making a call, answered by Paul McGann in his TARDIS with either Sheridan Smith or India Fisher. He is informed to "find your previous selves" and "protect the timeline". I think it would be a nice little surprise for the people. -Eccleston remains a tough one. It's unlikely he will return considering his history with RTD, but honestly I'm not entirely ruling out the chances. In some panels, I have heard Eccleston say that he still considers Russell a good storyteller, so maybe a good story might convince him to come back?
I'm guessing that Eccleston is happy to be one and done. I mean he didn't even do a quick guest appearance in the whole Day of the Doctor run - you had Smith, Tennant, Hurt, and Tom Baker. With Hurt regenerating into Eccleston, you figure they'd offer Eccleston something good for a quick guest appearance. I'm assuming they did, and he wasn't interested. But that's just my opinion.
@@mustang6599 Moffat did talk to Eccleston about it and I'm not sure what made him turn it down, but yes, these talks were had. Like I said, I would offer him one day of filming and that would be it.
@@timrob12 It's been said Chris wanted Joe Ahern to direct the 50th but Moffat already had signed on Nick Hurran to direct. Moff had a feeling Chris would say no, had another script just in case. Sir John Hurt was his back up plan.
Honestly I'm disappointed that Eccleston won't do a on-screen appearance with other doctors. It doesn't hurt to be honest. Aside from that if they made a spin-off adventure series of the previous doctor's having their own adventures the BBC would make a killing!
Even one time characters like Sally Sparrow from "Blink" could return, but not reprising any previously concluded story such as "Blink" - that's done and dusted but she'd be a good companion even if it was only another guest starring role.
@@danthemeegs8751 Fair point. I knew but for those who didn’t follow recent news would not know. I do have a feeling Christopher Eccleston will return to the TV Who but under a certain amount of conditions.
@@project_boredom2940 It’s alright! I don’t actually think Eccleston will return on TV, but I think the video is fair in pointing out that he did open that door
I didn't care much for Eccleston at first. But by the end of the first series I was pissed that they cut his time on the show short. I'd love them to bring him back. And give him more than one series this time please!
The 25th anniversary has footage of the first Doctor leaving Susan and saying he will come back and then he meets her in that episode. So he did do that.
The actress who played Susan is still alive. Let's bring her back, while we still can. Paul McGann needs his own mini series or spin off series/specials.
It would be great if they repeated the same adventure but using each of the different doctors. Seeing each of them reacting differently to the same story would be a great way to bring them all back as well.
I will never understand why nobody has bought Susan back she’s literally one of the most important characters in the show. She’s his granddaughter, literally a family member. Another timelord. I’m so perplexed. She’s still alive, she’s getting older, she’s being wasted. Use her while she’s still here. This is akin to the colossal waste Aardman animations made with Peter Sallis by barely making any use of his unique voice for Wallace.
I don't remember CE stating that he would return to (TV) Who - quite the opposite - "don't get into the same bathwater..." was a quote from him read? Any chance of seeing where he said that please?
I know you couldn’t list all of Matt’s outings, but I’d like to mention that, in Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, he achieved the impossible: he made me like Mr Collins.
I wish that in 2023, as a one off they would do a standalone series, with a 2-part story for each of the (main) 2005-present doctors i.e. Ecclestone, Tennant, Smith, Capaldi, Whittaker, and Gatwa (12 episodes in total, culminating in a feature length (or final 2-part) multi-Doctor (with or without Ecclestone) story that could also weave in McGann in particular, and as far as possible the surviving original series Doctors (very difficult to do with them due to their age, but not impossible).
You're very very VERY wrong about Eccleston. As soon as Davies was brought back, he said that he's done with Dr Who again because he does not trust Davies at all. That came right from the man's mouth at Motor City Comic Con in Detroit MI.
Carol Anne Ford should have come back during Capaldi's reign. He was always saying he thinks the Doctor wanted to see his granddaughter again. And Eccleston will NEVER return if Russel T. Davies is running the show.
I wish Capaldi could come back but he definitely doesn't want to come back he said his time on the show was good and wasn't a big fan of multi doctor stories
Colin Baker absolutely needs to come back. He is a great actor, still does big finish as the Doctor to this day, has worked with Russel in mind of the Hodiac so who knows 🤞and we even have a Curator Doctor who looks like an elderly Colin Baker so his return could be soo easy. Although it’ll never happen because Colin Baker is one of the most hated Doctors even though he’s the best actor to ever take the role.
The 14th Doctor is a man, actually. His name is Ncuti Gatwa. I can't even begin to pronounce his name. Hopefully, he'll do the character justice. And to anyone who asks (not that it's relevant), he is black.
Riversong was in many ways the Doctor's equal, so if the next Doctor is male, she could become a female counterpart, adventuring separately and together. This might help bring back some of the audience who have found the recent years, ah, disconnecting.
I don't want the Davis return to be a rehashing of his original tenure, so whilst the Tennents and Catherine Tate coming back is an apealing thought, it would only work as a special, both in and out of universe.
Wait with David getting back and not knowing why he’s having the face again think Christopher will have an appearance? For like an episode or few since we’ve got til next year til they film the new doctor
Michelle Gomez is, for me, the best Master since Roger Delgado. I am taking away nothing from the performances of the other incarnations, but just think her portrayal is the chef's kiss of Masters. Cheers....
I find it annoying when The Doctor can’t or doesn’t save people. I think leaving River in the Library was weak and i hated that The Doctor didn’t save anyone in stasis in A Christmas Carol. For crying out loud, he’s been claiming to be a doctor for 900 years!
So practically all the best recent doctors are down to come back. Perfect! Maybe they can fix theis whole timeless child mess like the doctor always does
As the Master is dead, he could never have come back and told the Timeless Child story. So, the picture that he did it can only be a matrix fantasy. Which establishes, Timeless Child itself is a matrix fantasy too.

Also, An Earthly Child and Relative Dimensions were both Christmas Specials, with the former featuring the original Derbyshire-arranged Doctor Who theme for its opening and closing.
she also had her own box set, Susan's war
This video willed the Tennant/Tate comeback into existence :p
Mr. Russell T. Davies, PLEASE bring back the one and only super temp!
but since Donna lost her memory it would be "what....?" (what.....?")....."I just want a mate!" "I'm not mating with you bozo!" all over again?
@@andrewmurray1550 Who knows, eh? Who nose?
Well well well
@@danthemeegs8751 ALLONS Y!!! If I get anymore excited I will cause rifts in the fabric of time and space!
Sadly John Barrowman has some allegations against him so it might be hard
@@APAMVs I'm not sure I've heard of allegations. I've heard plenty of confirmed stories that he himself has told and that even featured in Tennant, Tate and Barrowman's tribute song to RTD ("Johnny B getting his cock out..." followed by wink from Barrowman) but yeah his "hijinks" have been reevaluate.
Oh wait. Yes. Sorry. There were allegations he'd continued doing so after saying he would stop.. sorry forgot.
@@MrMann0123 it's ok and yea. I was shocked hearing about them too. He's I guess doing music performances or whatever? So I guess he is still getting work. I don't think he had a allegation where he sexually assaulted anyone but I could be wrong. If it's the other allegations of him being naked and such he could still survive I guess but if it's really bad stuff then no. He won't.
@@APAMVs I had dreams of meeting Captain Jack and becoming his companion and going on adventures with him, and I even met The Doctor though him.
@@Stevonniewolf3113 oh. Cool
It's funny watching this video in December 2022, lots of exciting stuff happening in the whoniverse and at least some of these are bang on but no spoilers
I’m a shill for Russell, I’ll definitely come back!
A few notes:
-I totally agree with Billie Piper's comment about "The story being right" to return.
@@einezcrespo2107 That's right. That was the reason he ended up saying no.
Honestly I'm disappointed that Eccleston won't do a on-screen appearance with other doctors. It doesn't hurt to be honest. Aside from that if they made a spin-off adventure series of the previous doctor's having their own adventures the BBC would make a killing!
It be nice to see old companions but the heartbreak when they leave again will be to great I cant handle that pain
Even one time characters like Sally Sparrow from "Blink" could return, but not reprising any previously concluded story such as "Blink" - that's done and dusted but she'd be a good companion even if it was only another guest starring role.
Would absolutely love for River Song or previous doctors (especially Eccleston and Smith) to return to the show.
Susan came back in audio drama for example The Time War story “Susan’s War”
It would be fun to have Carol Ann Ford to come back in the show and have her to regenerate.
You pick the one person who said they won’t be returning to Doctor Who (On TV at least) for the thumbnail?
you didn’t watch the video did you?
@@danthemeegs8751 Fair point. I knew but for those who didn’t follow recent news would not know. I do have a feeling Christopher Eccleston will return to the TV Who but under a certain amount of conditions.
@@project_boredom2940 It’s alright! I don’t actually think Eccleston will return on TV, but I think the video is fair in pointing out that he did open that door
@@project_boredom2940 - nope, not with Davies back as show runner. Eccleston's hate for him burns like a thousand suns.
Damn, didn't realize how far behind I was. Didn't even see missys death
I love Michelle Gomez. She was the perfect Master/Mistress and knew how to deliver a line. I have not seen the more recent Master .
I think most people want Missy to return, including me, she was the best incarnation of the master/mistress
What would be cool is if Jenny came back, and it was true she had children, one of them was named Susan. Wibbly Wobbly Timey Wimey?
I Think Jenny the Doctors Daughter and the thirteenth doctor would have been so Fantastic together.
Well, David's wish came full circle.
What I'd give for more McGann on screen.
Love this one but pleeeeeeaaaaase it's Russel T Dav-IS not Dav-EES!
Who Nose, in 2023 is the 50th anniversary so maybe we can have many Doctors versus many masters!
I can't wait for David T
Would love Jack back for a season
I would love to see Clara Oswald "The Impossible Girl" Come back in some kind of timey wimey way.
"Had a couple of kids and let herself go a bit" or had a dozen and looks better than ever, as is the case in real life.
You're very very VERY wrong about Eccleston. As soon as Davies was brought back, he said that he's done with Dr Who again because he does not trust Davies at all. That came right from the man's mouth at Motor City Comic Con in Detroit MI.
Oh, let's see, how about Tom Baker, Peter Davison, Colin Baker, and Sylvester McCoy.
Gomez hell yeah MISSY FTW :D
Loooooove Missy. She's so multi dimensional and has sparks of kindness (small passing sparks) and definite humour!
I think time has mellowed our perceptions of him and it would be great to see him do it how he wants it done.
Well, I think that Third Man At Lunch Counter deserves his own series.
Yeaaaa doctor whoooooo
Can't wait for Ace to come back.
I want Andrew Garfield to play a doctor who character again. Everyone always forgets he was in it.
The 14th Doctor is a man, actually. His name is Ncuti Gatwa. I can't even begin to pronounce his name. Hopefully, he'll do the character justice.
And to anyone who asks (not that it's relevant), he is black.
David Tennant is the 14th Doctor, and Gatwa is the 15th Doctor, according to Davies. Catherine Tate is coming back with Tennant as well.
For everyone posting who could come back to be 14th, just let you know, Ncuti Gatwa is the new Doctor who and he is great. Consider yourself lucky.
Riversong was in many ways the Doctor's equal, so if the next Doctor is male, she could become a female counterpart, adventuring separately and together. This might help bring back some of the audience who have found the recent years, ah, disconnecting.
No
Donna Noble is the best companion.
By far.
Period.
I don't want the Davis return to be a rehashing of his original tenure, so whilst the Tennents and Catherine Tate coming back is an apealing thought, it would only work as a special, both in and out of universe.
We all need to pay the bills, I'm happy for all of them to return if it happens we like what we like 'Never say never' great quote
Wait with David getting back and not knowing why he’s having the face again think Christopher will have an appearance? For like an episode or few since we’ve got til next year til they film the new doctor
I would love to see David Tenant come back he was my favourite Doctor
Michelle Gomez is, for me, the best Master since Roger Delgado. I am taking away nothing from the performances of the other incarnations, but just think her portrayal is the chef's kiss of Masters. Cheers....
I find it annoying when The Doctor can’t or doesn’t save people. I think leaving River in the Library was weak and i hated that The Doctor didn’t save anyone in stasis in A Christmas Carol. For crying out loud, he’s been claiming to be a doctor for 900 years!
There's a possibility that Rose Tyler should make a cameo in the 60th anniversary special of doctor who
I would love to see Simon Pegg return
What about John Barrowman
And now Matt Smith has joined the GOT universe. He's big.
So practically all the best recent doctors are down to come back. Perfect! Maybe they can fix theis whole timeless child mess like the doctor always does
Jenny and river run into Jodi s doctor. Send it.
Jenny had at least one child. Susan ! The Doctor is her grandfather.
no Genny is a clone not his biological daughter, the doctor had a family on Gallifrey, Susan is THAT childs daughter
Some of those would be massive.
But, sadly, some would have to be in the context of a multi-Doctor story. Ah, well.
Catherine Tate and David Tennant have reunited for the 60th Anniversary Special. Wilf makes his last appearance too.
As the Master is dead, he could never have come back and told the Timeless Child story. So, the picture that he did it can only be a matrix fantasy. Which establishes, Timeless Child itself is a matrix fantasy too.
Yes to all of them, but especially Jenny and Susan
4:58 Didn't 10 visit "everyone" before he regenerated?
