Awesome to see more Bullwhips around. I had 4 at 1 time down to 2. 1 with pararail and 1 with rare Gliderail. Im making Repro fan cooled Bullwhips soon. My favorite Scorpion. Take care
Great to hear from you Leander. Without a doubt you will be making some parts I need when you make the reproductions. Valdi has your number so I will be in touch.
Awesome video, just like a kid in a candy store, man is that a wicked looking sled did Valdi say how heavy the machine is, it looks like it would handle awesome in the ditch. can't wait for yours to be completed Nutter thanks for the video
That's one of the only Scorpions I never rode. (It was nice having a Scorpion dealer in the family [Thanks Dad!]) Scorpion was the only one to pull us away from Alouette.
Pretty sure the secondary is off a 81 and up cat, 1 3/8 inch belt width. One would think those tracks would get traction but any sled I have had with them spin like crazy and Im a 300lb guy so weight transfer is not an issue. I would be quite proud to have that sleds in my garage just the way it is! Cant wait to see you working on yours Nutter!
Here I come... the guy with all the questions! Ha-ha! As you were doing your walk around, I noticed what looked like a fuel line wrapping around a hose. Just curious if you know what it is and why it would be routed like that? Great video! You've got me pumped about this project!
The Bullwhips were rushed out the door, part of the reason the build quality was so crude. my dad was engineering services and administration manager for Scorpion from 70-81. He wanted to wait until the 78-model year to introduce the Bullwhip so they'd have more time to work out the bugs. He was overruled by higher ups. In hindsight, they probably should have listened.
it's kinda crazy to think about all of the top brand companies like arctic cat, ski Doo, Yamaha, and Polaris bought out these little companies and know you just don't see them too often
Actually, at one time, Scorpion was the 2nd largest snowmobile maker in MN. And the 4th largest in the Country. During it's peak, they produced 20,000 snowmobiles a year, and employed 500 people.
It looks like the hood could have had more ventilation for cooling. Maybe overheating caused the restarting problems. Any air cooled sled has to have cold air on those cylinders. Keeping s hood totally mint or original is one thing but burning up a mint engine is another. Super cool sled! Did she run mix or injected oil?
Scorpion's attempt at the Rupp Magnums and Nitros, sorry to say they failed, Rupp was the race innovators and you can definitely see the attempt at the magnum sleds, what a great survivor 👍
Good friend of mine was a test rider for scorpion he pasted this fall Rest In Peace Boots!
Old local scorpion dealer had a new one of those engines sitting on a shelf.
Valdi Steffanson formerly of Gimli Manitoba Canada.
cool walk around. thanks
Glad you enjoyed it

I'm not sure what it weighs. It's about the same as a free air TX340. Lighter than a TXL for sure.
Thanks John. Valdi is the best.
Nice Bullwhip and very nice ZRT 600 Acat.

I think it was coolant overflow. Not sure.

Very cool that your dad worked there! Good insider info there. I have not heard that before.
what year is this?
All Bullwhips are 1977.

It's liquid cooled and runs on pre-mix.
