Fox Transfer Dropper Seat Post Review & Installation

  • This is a comprehensive review and installation tutorial for the Fox Transfer Dropper seat post! In my opinion, it is the only seat post worth buying on the market today! No more Rock shox Reverb sagging over time and needing a rebuild/bleed, no more KS Lev failure. Also, in this video, I go over the incredible Wolf Tooth ReMote lever, a must have addition to the Fox post! In over 6 months of use, I have had zero issues with the dropper post, still slides smoothly, zero play, no sagging, just a must have seat post.

    Replaced my reverb with the Fox factory transfer dropper and WT ReMote after watching your video. This was such a huge upgrade! I've never dropped and raised my seat so quickly even in technical terrains.
    Thanks Alex!

    Addendum: if your seat post will not extend fully when you get it all set up, try loosening your seat clamp. I ran into that problem!!

      I have a Reverb works very good most of the time but total suck for bleeding and is getting close to a rebuild (I think? >250 hrs ride time).When its bled and working its my favorite.
      Other bike has a KS with works but the OEM thumb button is kind of lame....Wolftooth drop lever upgrade maybe needed. Not adjustable for snap-back speed with such but no problems with bleeding.

    great vid. One thing I'd like to add is that I've had my wolf tooth now for 2 mos or so and ride 2-3 times a week and use the wolf at least 40 times a ride and have to say when I installed the wolftooth and screwed the bolt that goes into the female part that goes into the brake, I failed to use locktite and almost lost the bolt. I noticed how loose it was just by checking looseness with my finger and it just fell out into the dirt with no warning. The male thread is only 3mm long that goes into the female part and DEFINATELY NEEDS LOCK TITE. I hope Wolf builds a more reliable bolt/nut thats longer than 3mm. Other than that its the best on the market!!!

    Nice video - I am now convinced the Wolf Tooth lever is a superior design! I just tried installing the Fox Transfer post and remote lever and ended up stripping the aluminum threads in the lever body due to the tiny stainless steel cable attachment bolt not threading properly (its super easy to do). This renders the remote completely useless and headed to the garbage tin. The Fox remote design is flawed and from what I have read online this is a common complaint (thread stripping) with their remote. I am going to see if I can find a Wolf Tooth remote at a local shop tomorrow and will be calling Fox on Monday to see if I can get a refund.

      Did you connect it to Shiamno brakes? I've seen that wolftooth don't recommend connecting directly to shimano brakes even though they do an is-2 version.

    • @kevinhill.8
      @kevinhill.8 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      FWIW - Manager at LBS that sells a ton of these told me he never recommends the Light Action version. He said the regular always provides enough leverage, and the LA version has to be pushed further since the lever is longer. He said he has lots of ladies wanting it to make things easier, but they tend to have smaller hands, which makes it even harder to fully activate the long lever.

    Fox Transfer has more horizontal play than the Rock Shox Stealth which was surprising. X-Fusion Slate has the most horizontal play of the three. The best dropper post lever is a cheap old Shimano Saint front gear shifter, it feels very solid and powerful.

    Hi Alex, great video, will look at wolf tooth dropper lever for my 2017 reign advanced 1 which is cable run and I like that over my reverb for sure. You mentioned ideas for future tech reviews. A saint brake review, and I've seen you mix your pads metal and resin at each end? Why and does it work better??
    Im considering upgrading my m8000 XT brakes to saint brakes on the reign. Reason I'm 95kg so being heavier and aggressive rider I seem to loose my brakes pretty quick. Typical XT brake fade and pressure loss.
    Cheers mate keep em coming.

    • @alexthemtbr
      @alexthemtbr  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Adam Terry I've been thinking about doing that review too! Basically the reasoning for mixed pads are that Metallics fade on long descents and grab soooo hard you lose all
      Modulation. Resin grab consistently but lack the hard bite of Metallics. I get the best of both worlds by mixing them! Tons of maintenance though. I don't recommend it unless you feel the same problems that I do

      dusan posavac it was my dads frame. My is being warrantied at the moment. I cracked it on practice day at a race so I needed to build another one up so I could compete. BlackDiamond, RF recently added the Turbine R dropper to their line, which is the Transfer in RF clothing (apparently same company owns both RF and Fox). I’ve used the regular Turbine dropper for a few years, with overall good results. It’s tough to install though. I’d go with the Transfer/Turbine R instead, or better yet, the Bike Yoke Revive.

      I have to ask for a comparison between the DELTA and switch link. I'm considering building up an evil frame too and would like to get a comparison between the two systems. For example, does the ramp up from mid stroke support to big hit feel different in the Evil? Did you have to tweak the spacers on the rear shock on either bike? etc.

      Eric, tho ramp up has been hard to tune on the evil following, I do prefer the switch link, but that being said, my shock on the evil isn't very tunable. It would be amazing if I could fit a float x2 on it! I'm running 3 volume spacers in the monarch.
      But if you think about it. DELTA is basically what ever Moto suspension system is like. A linkage driven single pivot! I think DELTA has some real promise and I love the low maintenance.

    Not happy with mine. It came on my Ibis Mojo HD4 and while it goes up and down just fine while looking at it, it seriously sticks with even the slightest bit of angular stress put on it, say as I'm leaning back getting ready to drop it. a real PIA if you ask me and no amount of rock and roll gold lube makes any difference.
    My KS Lev never had this problem.
    Pretty bummed.
