It is really cool watching people my wife watch dip into different fighting games. It's like we can combine our hobbies now! Glad youre loving the game!
Not to mention that Pianists are great at timings. Like there's people who just continuesly mash buttons and there are people who could remember to pause to reset and then move again.
Setting the right expectations on the first match before it started was actually awesome to hear. “Lily. Everything I taught you, you will not remember. The last hour of this has meant nothing. And that’s ok! Go get beat up in ranked.” “ok”

I have really appreciated your coaching content. Watching yours and the other teams grow and improve is really motivating. Love the FGC. Keep up the amazing work Phi!
When this cut to the end I was like NOOOOOO its over already? I didn't expect to get as invested in this as I was I'm 100% new to tekken I've been playing about 3-4 days now and this game is so sick I'm bad but its fun and I'm enjoying learning. My friend who is teaching me the game is a Flame Ruler rank and also watches your stuff and led me here they teach very similarly to how you do and it made learning feel a bit better thank you for what you do I don't think I will play online for at least another week or 2 but I'm really looking forward to getting to the point I can call myself decent at tekken
Hey I'm not as new as you to Tekken solely because I played maybe 2 hours of Tekken 7 lmao to get myself ready I just played the story mode and arcade story then started playing games. I've played like 16hrs total of Tekken 8 and I'm sitting at Warrior rank rn so I hope to eventually see you in my online matches! Heck maybe on a tournament stage someday lmao! Good luck in your Tekken journey!
That's awesome! Perhaps you should get into online play faster than you might feel ready for, because your win / loss ratio doesn't matter. Experience does and when you play online you get actual scenarios to learn from in real time. I guess it just comes down to how you deal with certain situations. Some like to learn in the flames, some like to heat up the oven to get used to the fire.
Someone's probably explained it somewhere, but Lily plays a lot of rhythm games as well! Speaking as someone who plays drums, that does help. Having any sort of beats in my head really helps ground things better for me.
Tekken always had the reputation of being the hardest fighting game to learn, so I always felt intimidated to try. However, nobody ever said anything about Tekken having the best beginner friendly tutorials when compared to other fighting games. While Tekken is hard, I feel like the barrier to entry is the lowest of all fighting games thanks to channels like yours. Thanks so much for what you do, I never expected Tekken of all things to be the first fighting game that "clicks" with me.
@@Firelord_Ozen cuz offlinetv has become soulless IMO in the past 2-3 years, after all the incidents that happened (that we know of) they all seem super fake in their videos
Your videos have been a blessing for my friends, I’m not good at explaining things, so recommending your videos have taught them a lot in such a short time. Thanks PhiDX!!
I thought it was insane when you said she was putting in korean arcade player hours in the game and her progress is fantastic. You are doing a great job coaching her.
32:09 That was really good progress on Lily's part. During the video, I was like "Why isn't PhiDX saying anything?" But, she figured it on her own. That's very admirable.
Its fun to watch Lily play. With the things she says and does, it's like she's always been a fighting game player but it was just hidden. The King salt especially.
I've been taking the game more serious now and watching a lot of streams but mostly Lily, Mainman, and now Phi. It really helped me a lot even if I don't play Lili. The game has never been this much fun!
A tip for new players: When launched opponent during match and your mind went blank tryna think combo just throw a 1 jab to float opponent first, with this you get slightly extra time to remember/adjust your move but at the cost of incomplete combo before tornado. Or if you REALLY can't think while something happened so soon just jab jab jab 3 times into fastest tornado move and finish up with ender. It's always better to deal damage towards enemy instead of dropping everything.
Yo early gang LilyPichu is actually live streaming on youtube right now and holy shit was I shocked at how intuitively she is playing the game right now. She looks like a totally different player
The honeymoon phase of learning fighting games is the best, I remember the first time I landed an extended wall carry combo into bound with a stomp ender. That shit hit hard.
As a music teacher and scrub Lili main, learning with PhiDX and Lily has been the most fun and valuable experience I could have with this game 👍🏻 thanks Phi you deserve all the love and recognition
Why am I not surprised that Lily plays Lili? And Phi is just becoming the go-to coach for content creators at this point, and I think it's well deserved
I was a legacy tekken player I played 1-4 religiously when each came out, and stopped playing. I got tekken 8 when it came out and found your channel. Love your vids brother! The🐐!!
Doing combos vs the AI is definitely nice! Confirming the hit and doing the first move is a big part of it. Angles and distances are also different in game. Instead of arcade mode, you can also just set the dummy in practice mode to "CPU". You can set easy CPU at first, and then set it up a bit higher.
I think it's interesting that not a lot of people know how in tekken you input the string even if the attacks aren't connecting unlike in say guilty gear xrd where you can just react to your punch hitting and cancel your attacks on hit due to the gatling system. I think this deff is what catches lots of people off guard and especially makes people so surprised when they miss a combo. Thus far i've recognized that this happens because of that system of having to wait for an attack animation to finish. This is really the only way i actually managed to start landing combos and strings in tekken as a whole and the same even goes for soul calibur (even tho that game kinda died fr)
I did the offline arcade mode practice in Dragon Ball Fighterz when I decided to get into fighting games for real, been doing it but not for practice for a while and realized it helped subconsciously
I was doing this with a lot of doa5 LR players nothing is more satisfying then teaching someone there first combo ever or first fundamentals, seeing their reaction to them understanding whats happening is the most wholesome and exciting thing as a mentor
She was in my recommendations the other day, i think she's doing amazing for how long she's played the game. Yeah i know she prob doesn't think so, but the growth is pretty quick and if she keeps at it then she'll do even better.

As someone who's not played any tekken since t3 on the playstation in the back room at work ages ago I love these videos, they're incredibly helpful. it's a shame they didn't put in online training mode, hopefully it's something they can patch in later.

I find it hilarious (in a good way) how she's like "how do you remember these long combos???" when she's able to play her piano pieces from memory.
Piano players clearly have an advantage in Tekken due to the similar long string memory skills that they possess.
