Galaxy Convoy wielding the Megalo Axe always looked weird in a funny way, and was probably intended by the writers and designers to troll Master Galvatron. Loved every bit of whenever Galaxy Convoy would go, “Force Chip! Ignition! Galaxy Giga Crush!”.

As a toy line Hasbro designed it to be a followup to the American Energon (Superlink), but Takara chose to make it a new stand alone series. So when it came the time to localize it was a total mess of continuity but there are clues proving it was a sort of sequel like Megatron having Unicron parts or look in his armor (shoulders,horns,sort of wings) which was an American idea.
I have seen all of Unicron Trilogy in Japanese and English. I can totally say the best is GALAXY FORCE (Cybertron). Originally a stand alone series, not connected with Armada or Energon was an amazing show. MICRON LEGEND it´s a really good one, except for Convoy´s (Optimus) pointles death, I know it was an omage to G1, but a really good series though. And the last one is SUPERLINK (Energon), the only bad series here but definetly MUCH BETTER than Energon.
Ngl the final battle episode makes me anxious af cause Galaxy Convoy didn't wield Megalo Convoy's axe. Atm I thought that it's his only chance to win 😢
Galvatron can withstand Metroplex (which, despite way smaller in Galaxy Force than basically anywhere else, is still big and stronkk) and he's being withstood by Optimus Prime in default super mode, who wasn't even using his 2 massive firetruck guns. That's how stronkk the default super mode was. Even in their final duel, Optimus only used default super mode, and the only other backup he got was Vector Prime's sword. Again, default super mode was actually a powerhouse.

It's not unheard of, in fact it's fairly common, the issue is usually not the quality but what they try to adapt. In this case Galaxy Force's plot was very simple, almost generic, and the added touches by Habro's team actually added to it.
