This wonderful city has a great Polish heritage, before WWII some 70 % of its population was Polish, now some 20 %. For example the Three Crosses Monument was built by Antoni Wiwulski (he also designed the Grunwaldzki Monument in Kraków) in 1916. He died in early 1919 defending Wilno/Vilnius against the Russians.

Because Poland were occupying Vilnius from 1920 until 1939
Polish were occupiers and quite brutal. Poland never apologized
