Having different categories for Bops, Bangers and Jams might seem controversial but it's 100% the correct choice. Every one of the songs felt fitting to where you placed them, will be checking out many of them that I've not listened to already. Thank you Mr. The Snare. Have a great holidays.
no joke, I have personally adopted the idea of bops bangers and jams as separate static categories, cause it just functions too well
But most of the bangers were bops and vice versa

@@jeremyusreevu237 the way I see it, a "bop" is a light-hearted song whereas a "banger" is more intense or aggressive, but that's different from how Mic categorizes it apparently
My favorite part is seeing what category names you can create as a reason to mention a moment in a song you liked
“You did WHAT to an ant?!” is my favorite
Could literally watch the more “random” awards (eg best hi-hat hit, best screams, best guitar noodling, best misheard lyric, etc.) for hours. I just love seeing these little moments songs whether they be silly or serious highlighted.
No other year end week excites me more than Micthesnare's Snarey awards

I'm not sure what made me happier, seeing "Everything Everywhere All at Once" appear on this, or seeing Rufus Wainwright getting some love. Seriously, the song he did with Carly Rae Jepson was so good!!

Preacher's Daughter is so good, a perfect debut album and easily my favourite album of the year 10/10. Every track is amazing and Ethel Cain is only going up from here. Can't wait to see what she does next

this format for ‘best of the year’ is so much more honest and passionate than just a straight up list; talking about moments you like rather than silly arguments about what album is objectively is better than another
I’m glad Simz wasn’t left out. That album was FIRE!
I can't say that I think it's a better album than introvert, I will say that I will probably listen to it so much more often

Really glad to see Carly and Beyoncé on the best pop albums list. I've literally listened to them almost every day since they came out. Both Renaissance and The Loneliest Time are no-skip albums 😩

yes. gang of youths' album is criminally underrated. i saw them live earlier this year off of recommendation from uproxx's indiecast, and my goodness, they were absolutely incredible. 10/10. i didn't even know that much of their music going in and they completely blew me away. david is easily a top tier indie frontman right now and this should be one of the most praised indie records of the year.
As an aussie its strange to see them viewed as underrated 😂 They're HUGE here.
Loved the shoutouts to The Beths and Jockstrap

Putting Kirby as one of the best soundtracks is GOATED
Biggest Omission Award goes to “Basketball Shoes” not being in the Best Album Closer section, but love the shoutout to “Sun Bleached Flies,” since Preacher’s Daughter’s closing stretch might be one of the strongest runs of tracks of the whole year
People with chronic illnesses must love your awards videos, there's so many Spoons.
Rosalía and Bad Bunny killed the league in popular music in Spanish this year. Their albums both are fire af!

Home Maker by Sudan Archives should have definitely been up there as one of the bangers of 2022, as well as everything from Kilo Kish’s AMERICAN GURL.

Unlike most years, I've actually heard a handful of the songs on this list. It feels like a weird badge of honor, haha.
A little sad Rina didn't take more spots on the list (particularly with his choices for best pop album i thought hold the girl would slot in nicely) but that's made up with Carly Rae Jepsen getting the (usual) attention she deserves. I've grown to love the channel since finding it at the start of the year, so really love seeing this list. Great choices!

The ESSENTIAL Best Music Awards list! So many great picks for a lot of these albums and songs! I always feel like I do a good job listening to a lot of music in a given year, then when this list comes out I'm always finding several picks that I either missed out on or completely slept on (Denzel Curry, MUNA, Asunojokei are the big ones). Looking forward to your AOTY video!!

I'm glad for the inclusion of ethel cain's preacher's daughter in the best closing track and the best penultimate track because I feel like the gut punch that is sun bleached flies and strangers back to back really elevates the album from a solid debut to an extraordinary one that will continue to haunt me for years to come
Happy to see Goose and “Hungersite” on here. I think they took a big step this year reaching a new audience with their unique sound. Love the contrasting feels from their studio work being indie style, compared to the live jam band vibe they got going. I am very excited to see where this band goes and I am interested to see how they expand this coming year, as their shows are starting to need bigger venues!
The scream on Little Things by Big Thief was also one of my favorite music moments from 2022, so happy to see it included here! I always love little weird moments like that, glad you featured weird categories like that!
So happy to see gang of youths on here multiple times, they really deserve to be well known outside of Australia.

YESSSSS!!! Held, Satellite (spoon... And I hate that I have to clarify lol) and Lucifer on the Sofa's awards for opener, penultimate and closer are sooo deserved. I even try to put them in those places in certain playlists where it makes sense because they fit those roles so perfectly. LotS was a great album and those 3 songs, in those placements are a big part of it.
So awesome to see Gang of Youths on here, and Vulfmon as the opening song!! Lets Go Lets Go got me so hyped for the video :)
I'm excited to see so much King Gizzard! Favorite album of the year for me absolutely has to be Ice, Death, Planets, Lungs, Mushrooms, and Lava - and I'd give my "best closing track" award to Gliese 710. Love that song so much

Yeah. I was a bit miffed not to seeing anything off it in the categories. I definitely expected either Sugar/Tzu or Welcome to Hell to be in the bangers category at the very least.
I'm now realizing I missed a ton of good music this year and barely listened to anything that came out in 2022
O well, I went through a ton of my backlog at least, I have a new appreciation for Punk and noisy stuff, getting into more Japanese and Korean indie, and there's still some weeks left for this year to listen to stuff. Here's to 2023 o7
