I’m a member of the Federation Garden club of Missouri. Located in a very small town Mountian View. We make 100 6ft swags for the town to put up on all their poles. It’s the only Christmas decoration they have. We cut the greenery and make the bows then strap bundles of them onto a 6ft board. The town puts them up for us. Lots of locals come and help and we feed them soup and salads. It quite a progect taking 3 day to accomplish
Grace smelling the boxwood tree with approval was adorable! Then you seeing that your bells worked, smiling like a little girl with a new toy, just so sweet!!! Merry Christmas!!! May you make many new memories that your family will remember some day and smile!!!🎄☃️🎁❄️🐕🐾
Love the potato boxwood tree!!! Keeping your memories alive of your grandma is extra special! Looking forward to seeing how you display the bells. 🔔 ❤❤
Aaahhh, the memories ! So happy you were able to find the Christmas bells 🌲and that they arrived safely. Great to know the "how to" of making the boxwood tree using the potatoes as a sustainable base. I always learn so much from your videos, Danielle! Thank you!
Love the sustainable boxwood tree! And I was absolutely joyful over your bells working! I had forgotten all about those bells! I think a family friend had a set and I remember they sounded so pretty. Thanks for the memory
I do love the boxwood tree, I have done that in outside urs with pine and spruce branches, and I made door swags with branches too and addd white lights for around the doorways, this year I added some hydrangea dried flowers like you did on your outside tree. I must say I truly LOVE those bells and the memories you have and how you share them. Its so nice to have memories of christmas, my mom always decorated the house with HUGE amount of decorations and stuff she made in ceramics back in the 70's. those houses and trees are just so beautiful, and nothing that you see in stores today. Have a wonderful Christmas to you and your family !! and of course Grace. You are so genuine in your videos and thanks for all the beautiful videos and inspiration you give us all.
Hi Danielle your boxwood tree turned out so pretty. I used to make probably 80 of those for a florist when I worked and then I used to do them here and there sometimes I'd make about 40 of them in a season I decorate them with little colored balls different little ornaments bows pine cones they're very pretty. I never used a potato before that's a great idea! And I had those bells myself when my kids were little! Sorry to say I passed them along to somebody else. I'm so happy you have them for your home there's nothing like creating those fond memories around the holiday with the traditions you had going up to pass along to your own kids. Also I'm looking forward to your tour! 😍
Try putting the tree on a cake stand if you have one. I've made a pine swag, pincone wreath and a Christmas pot using mostly natural materials for the front door. Most everything was free from the yard. Thank you for todays vid.
I loved seeing your face light up when you heard the music from the bells! It's so nice that you treasure memories of your grandma. Thanks for sharing!!
I love seeing how patient you are with your dog....why not let her sit in the chair and watch you. You can judge a person in how they treat their dogs and cats. Bless you and Merry Christmas.
Every year my sister and I make what we called “greenies” which consist of a low bowl with oasis (no judging, please). We acquire our evergreens by scavenging from our own yards, purchasing them, rescues from Christmas tree lots and reaching out to neighbors. The evergreens we use include hemlock and incense cedar (two of my favorites), spruce, cedar, holly, fir, juniper, white pine, arborvitae, winterberry holly and magnolia along with dried hydrangea. I have plans to plant a pair of boxwoods in the very back of my yard to harvest from. I have a pair of taxus that I planted this year but they will have to put on a few years’ growth before I can cut on them. I think the greenie I made this year is the prettiest one I’ve ever made. 🎄 You are so fortunate to have such wonderful memories from your childhood, especially those with your grandmother. What treasures! ♥️
I’m from Long Island NY and a favorite Christmas decorating memory is collecting starfish on the beach. We would dry them outside on a picnic table, spray paint in bright colors and glitter, tie with ribbon and hang on the tree.
I do really enjoy your nostalgia re grandmother. I have none of those but what I do have are wonderful grandchildren with whom I can hopefully create some fun and loving memories with. Thank you so much for sharing your lovely memories with us. ♥️ Wishing you a day filled with complete joy and happiness…. and some love from your fan.
I like the topiary tree and especially instead of oasis using the potatoes. Good job! We have a set of the same musical bells as you do, we haven't put them out in quite a while but now I think we should pull them out again!
I love this tree! I have more yew than boxwood. I wonder if that would work? I grow lots of strawflowers, statice, and gomphrena for holiday crafting. Also, I like to grow some pumpkins and Lamb's Ears. I use them all for ornaments.
Loved the boxwood tree. ❤. What a great idea. I was afraid that Gracey would take one of those potatoes and run off with it 😂. Those bells are lovely and what a fun memory. My favorite old decoration that we had when I was very young were 3 dimensional red crepe bells. They had a diamond pattern when you opened them up. My mom hung them around the house. I wish I could find them now. 😊
Some of my favorite Christmas memories are with my grandma. She use to craft those ceramic trees with lights and she and my aunt would make ornaments out of oyster shells. I saw some of those recently and thought of them. Thanks for sharing your memories.
your grandmother taught you so well ,, the old craft ways seem to get lost nowadays in this age of easy throw away, I have said it before you have the most gentle and calming manner and accent , thankyou for being you
I love your memories of your Grandmother! I have 3 grandkids and decorate over the top for each holiday, hoping they have some beautiful memories. Merry Christmas!
what a great idea will try that potato form tree next year. I also made the pumpkin seed ornaments you made and I just love them. gave them as gifts and everyone was amazed. it was real easy. thanks for the ideas.
I REALLY like your boxwood Christmas tree ! I’m not formal with my decorations at all but I just love the tree ! I myself would probably add a few red berries because I’ve always liked a red and green Christmas. ❄️⛄️🎄💚🙃
I didn't do much with my grandmas, unfortunately. My mom was more into sewing, crocheting, knitting, and even macrame (1970s child, here). Our Christmas crafts involved that- oh and dough ornaments-...but...we went to a company Christmas party and the craft was sand art terrariums. That's as garden as it gets. On the flip side, I'm a new grandma looking to create those memories. I certainly have boxwood that needs a trim...😂
Ah, I'll tell a lie. I was reading below and we did paint pinecones silver and gold tipped. You know, I could be the grandma with the mostest because every 4 years my 40 mature Eastern White Pines drop enough pinecones for... hmmm... I'm seeing a 20 ft. Christmas tree made entirely of pinecones...🤣
Oh my mercy! It is so interesting what our holiday memories are. I make Christmas sugar cookies like my mother did. She used food coloring to color the dough, and the cookies were never frosted. Just a thought. If you have a fire in your fireplace, maybe the mantle would not be a good place for your bells. Love your potato boxwood Christmas tree!
We make long garlands out of various greenery for our front door, and I use the same greenery for my two porch pots. Here in IL it freezes in place and lasts til March. I always decorate my chandelier as well, grow.paperwhite, and amaryllis. I will have to try a potato topiary. I might make it out of yew as my boxwood are balls, and do not have much to clip.
I hope my grandchildren remember me like you do yours. I never knew one set as they died when I was very young. The other, we didn't see very often You were really blessed by yours. Love the bells!❤
I make a wreath for my front door every year with magnolia, white pine and other evergreens. Tried sage and dusty miller too. My neighbor and her 4 yr old son makes theirs too!
I bought those bells for my parents the first Christmas the year my son was born. I’m not sure she liked them. I say that because over the years they have not been put up. I LoVe the boxwood tree idea. I will put that in my notes to make next year.
Had never heard of the potato tree but it’s beautiful. My dad used to decorate the xmas tree he loved putting lots of tinsel on it. The tinsel didn’t look very good during daylight but at night with lights on it the tinsel glowed. Our memories keep xmas alive.❤
Hello, I have been a florist for many years and have used fresh greens here and in the UK., which is my birth home. Thought you’d like this information. Boxwood does not hold up very well when cut as you’ll find out sad to say, .neither does a shrub commonly called false holly. I’ve never used potatoes instead of oasis for bases on anything I’ve made. Yes, oasis does have chemicals in it, so I use it as little as possible. Chicken wire can often be used for strengthening too over the oasis or alone, whatever works for you. For myself I try to use things that won’t mold after a couple of weeks inside in a heated house, as allergies are an issue for me. A little bleach can help if watered down a lot. I too enjoy my Amaryllis. I actually have one variety that was my originally my deceased mother in laws. I’ve had what started out as 3 bulbs, but now is mostly in a big clump in my flower bed, must be 30 bulbs in that cluster alone of bulbs. They thrive well in the ground in the upstate of South Carolina. Merry Christmas and happy holidays to you and your family. Maureen.
Such a beautiful video I just love that you include Grace and all of them she is so adorable and unfortunately all of my memories are wrapped around food how awful I wish we had been more crafty!!!!!
The boxwood tree turned out great in the urn, even though it's not exactly what you remember. Will the potatoes rot underneath? It's so cool that you were able to find the bells from your memories. 🥰
Hello :) thanks for all your videos, love them :) This time of year I made my own christmas cards for my friends and family and I used flowers from my garden. I made flower petal Christmas Nativity sceen. I pressed tulip petals as body and hydrangea, violets flowers as head, and as a star I used small maple leaves. I used a laminator. I added glass beads stars and flowers to decorate and sparkle all look of the picture. I made more than 70 cards and it was a blessing time to me :) Now, most all of them are on their way to people :) I would love to share some pictures...but where can I send it?
Beautiful, now for my question, living in South Florida and needing very long garden staples, all I can find are about 6", where oh where did you get your long garden staples
My dogs think boxwood smells like cat wee. They killed all my boxwood by lifting their legs on it. I have planted lots of other evergreens but they are too small for cutting on yet, but I have high hopes for them. Right now I buy small trees for my porch to decorate and plant them out in spring.
Ballerina potato! I needed that chuckle, thanks. Love the bells, but even more your memories of your beloved Grandma
A very sweet nostalgic video. Love it.
Love your memories of your Grandma you share with us. Love the tree and the bells
You always share such useful tips and tricks! So happy you found the bells! Looking forward to the holiday home and garden tour🎄😊

Great idea. I love how you let Grace sit in the chair supervising while you decorate.
You have such beautiful memories of grandma and growing up, truly worth treasuring!
Snowman-ballerina potatoes 🤣🤣☃️🩰🥔🥔 Merry Christmas!! 🎄❤️

Love the potato tree. Looking forward to your Christmas tour!
My Grand Mom always had the kids make 'clove apples'. Simply stuck cloves into an apple - as many as we could. I still remember the aroma!
Thank you for sharing these special memories! I love those bells and your potato Christmas tree!
How much fun thank you so much! Love listening the joy of your childhood was all over your smile!

What a great holiday craft. The Orange and clove “pomander”(?) was always a fun project and they smelled good too.
Very cute Boxwood Christmas tree and musical bells! 🔔💚🔔💚🔔How cool that you found a set like your grandmother's.

I just bought bells like urs at a yard sale for 2$ and they work yay!! I have them on my front porch .
I just love them .. love ur potatoe tree !!
Had never heard of the potato tree but it’s beautiful. My dad used to decorate the xmas tree he loved putting lots of tinsel on it. The tinsel didn’t look very good during daylight but at night with lights on it the tinsel glowed. Our memories keep xmas alive.❤
Slugs love honesty; so when you plant it and if you have them in your area, be aware. 😮
I allow the holly plants to live with the thought I might use them in decor some day, but I always end up with too many ideas and not enough time.
I’m going to try this with my Manhattan euonymus. I’m in NJ but have family in Ephrata and Lititz. Love Lancaster County. Happy Holidays!
I love it in the urn. It looks 'English Country' to me.

Beautiful Boxwood tree🎄 To keep the greens from drying out, how do you water it?
You mentioned “one sty”? I’m sure I’m spelling this wrong. Your grandmother used it. What is that exactly? Thanks!
Hi friend! Oasis is a brand of floral foam ❤️
@ thanks! I know this. I thought you were using a different word I wasn’t familiar. Thanks much! Merry Christmas!
