Why should British taxpayers pay for past injustices? These injustices were committed by a few thousand of the wealthiest individuals at the time, namely the elite landowners. Have their descendants pay up.

The wealthy you mention include Banks (loans to buy slaves), Insurance Comps. (covering the loss of ships and "cargo"), The Royal Family (QE1 made money from her Pritvateers).

Slavery existed in Africa for years before Europeans arrived. The descendants of the people who captured and sold their fellow Africans should be held responsible for any reparations. Perhaps we should seek reparations from the Barbary Pirates for the over one million white slaves who were taken to the slave markets of N Africa and the Ottoman Empire.

Comparing the slave trade to the holocaust is ridiculous. The holocaust was genocide and was perceived an immoral practice. In the 18th century slavery wasn’t perceived immoral. It was practiced by nearly every country. Her argument is therefore anachronistic.
Africa also participated in the slave trade so should they pay as well?
I do agree that Britain could contribute in building infrastructure such as hospitals in the Caribbean, but only if Africa does it also.

      Like what? Other justices? 😂
The government has been failing the country and its people to bleed them dry.
Any major business that are British are being sold to foreign investors and the people in need are the ones paying for it.
We can work in London all our lives but we can’t live here. Those with money are buying all the properties and splitting them up at extortionate rates not to mention the stupid bedroom tax!
Injustice is exactly that. If others should be held accountable for their crimes then so should the government. Theft is theft and the money owed to a country from one to another remains.

How about all the Black rulers that actively hunted the weaker black neighbouring countries and sold its people into slavery to the Arabs long before we came along? On that note do you know why Arab countries don't have a high black population? Because that either castrated or killed slaves they didn't need any longer.
The history of the world is full of wrongdoings and violence, how about we focus on the current ills plaguing humanity rather than using historic slavery as a cudgel to beat western nations over the head with to extract free money from them.
On that note, where's that thank you from the rest of the world to Britain for stopping the trans Atlantic slave trade? How about some f"#@ng gratitude.

"Slavery in northern Africa dates back to ancient Egypt. The New Kingdom (1558-1080 BC) brought large numbers of slaves as prisoners of war up the Nile valley and used them for domestic and supervised labour. Ptolemaic Egypt (305 BC-30 BC) used both land and sea routes to bring in slaves." are Egypt also paying reparations ?

Slavery to the black population was absolutely terrible, which was done mainly by the white population and the tribal chiefs selling their braves in mass to the white slave traders. BUT, what about the white slave trade, so do I get reparations for my family’s slavery and suffering? Slavery comes in many forms, i.e. forced to work hard labour all your life, in terrible conditions, with mass starvation and early death the only way out for millions. This happened throughout the world, especially during and before the queen victoria era in Britain. As an example, children worked in the coal mines from 8yrs old, but many would be young as five. These men and children, worked between 12 to 16 hours a day, with many having very short lives due to the coal dust and machine accidents, this was the same for the cotton mills and other industries. My own relatives, died in work houses, or simply starved to death if they couldn’t find work and some were even press-ganged off the streets, to be forced to sail ships, often dying of scurvy and malnutrition. Many were also forced to fight as soldiers in wars for the establishment, all over the world, or be shot for cowardice. So isn’t all this also slavery, slavery to a system, wherever it is done in the world!

We paid £20m back in the day which was equivalent to 40% of GDP to end slavery, and we engaged in combat with those who refused to end it. Also more of a trivial point but people of Caribbean / African descent in the UK should not receive anything - if they were in their countries of original ethnic origin they would have much lower living standards now.

In an ideal world it would be nice but practically even if there was the money (and you know it would be poorer taxpayers being the most greatly affected) not on your life. It would set back race relations decades and in a damn dangerous way. As much as she stated about the Jews getting compensation after world war 2, we also have the example of France demanding reparations from Germany after WW1. The blow back once the German economy tanked is a factor on why a certain Austrian got where he did. We had riots in this country during the summer, where racism was a factor so how do you think it is going to go if people get it into their heads that as their public services are run down even more, coincidently the black family down the street and every black family got a pay out for something that happened hundreds of years ago.
