Flemish is not a language similar to Dutch, it _is_ Dutch. Belgian Dutch (a.k.a. Flemish) and Netherlandic Dutch are much like British and American English. The pronunciation is a bit different and there are a couple differences in the words that are used, but in written form they are indistinguishable a lot of the time.

It sucks its hard to learn.... French/german grammar is easier!
Wow, Dutch grammar easy? I'm dutch and I still struggle with the grammar. Like; I want to become a writer and I have actually given up on writing in dutch because the language is so complex. AND IT'S MY NATIVE LANGUAGE. Now I write in English, which I find a lot easier. Also both French and Spanish grammar is much easier than Dutch. I do agree though, that Dutch is easier than German.
+FluffyUnicorn Ik schrijf gewoon in het Nederlands. Engels kan ook wel, maar de opbouw van de zinnen is bij mij nog een probleem. Het lezen daarin tegen gaat wel gemakkelijk. Altijd vreemd om te zien dat je Engelse cijfer op je rapport hoger is dan die van Nederlands!
I live in the Netherlands and had English for six years I really appreciate tourists that speak a bit Dutch I think more people have to learn this language because its awesome :D
I'm learning dutch because me fiancé and his family are from the netherlands. i want to be able to join in conversation with out them having to repeat themselves in english.
Another reason to learn Dutch is that if you are in a group of Dutch people and you can't speak Dutch, only English, they will ignore the fact that you don't understand it and can't participate in the conversation and they will just talk Dutch.
I think English is one of the easiest languages to learn. I live in the Netherlands, my dad is Frisian and my mom is Norwegian. So I speak Dutch, Frisian and Norwegian. And I get English, German and French lessons at school. So when you speak all these languages, English is really easy.
+Shinhyeo Well yes, the main part is, but what she probably meant are the irregularities, I have personally only met a single person who had learned to use the Dutch grammar system fluently, and only after years if living in The Netherlands. Then again, you'll most likely be understood just knowing the basics.
+Anouk van der Voort Ok, I'm tired of Dutch people saying that the grammar makes it one of the hardest languages to learn. I'm learning Dutch from English, and it really is not that bad. All you need to do is move the main verb to the end of the sentence half the time. French is harder by far!
according to the United Nations dutch is in catagory one, which is most simpel to learn for English speakers. Catagory five is the hardest, and is preserved for japanese.
My mom is a native Dutch speaker from The Netherlands and she said that she can understand almost all of Afrikaans and that it’s “Dutch with a weird accent”. My mom also says that Flemish is “basically normal Dutch with a softer G and some different vocabulary” but she can usually figure out by context. She can also understand a lot of german. In other words, Dutch opens a lot of language doors!
I'm from Belgium and i do speak flemish but flemish is just the same language as dutch. The language in Belgium and The Netherlands is like what they speak in New York and what they speak in Texas for example
hai I am from the Netherlands. I live in Amersfoort, the exact centrum of Netherland. I speak English with a British accent, I readto much Harry Potter. But Dutch is a very difficult language, when you look closer to the grammar, it's deffinetly more difficult then English. ps. sorry for my bad grammar and vocab, because I am only 14 years and I learn this language since I was 11
#4 ... I started learning Dutch but whenever I tried speaking Dutch with someone from the Netherlands they got exasperated and said, "Let's just speak English." Disappointing because it is a fun language to learn. :(
DUTCH IS EASY ahha don't make me laugh it's one of the hardest in the world. the dutch language has exceptions on exceptions. there are a ton of rules that just don't have a reason. Don't get me wrong it's a great language
Hahah how Nice is this! We, dutchies, speak a lot of languages: english, french, deutsch, spanish but nobody speaks dutch 😬 respect, because dutch is such a difficult language
Lol learning to speak Dutch is pretty damn difficult 😁 I'm a native and I don't even get some things, combining 2 vowels to make 1 sound (just a separate letter really) like what is that even? But this was a lovely video tho!!Maar dit was zeker wel een leuke video!!
Uh yeh, Im german and speak english pretty well too.. and I honestly dont have big issues with learning dutch xd Chose to learn dutch just because it's grammar is basically the same as german lol
Reason number 4 is soo true. Since English tends to be pretty easy for most of us, and our language isn't used in too many other places, we don't really expect foreigners to speak it, neither do we deem it necessary. So when people do learn our language it impresses me a lot that they went through the effort of learning it. Source: I've grown up with yearly holidays spent in england and had the pleasure of learning Dutch to some great English friends. Btw, your accent when you say the numbers in dutch is adorable.
Quite funny, my English teachers always tell me how hard Dutch is to foreigners. I've got an English teacher who lives in the Netherlands for over ten years, but still doesn't speak Dutch, just because we speak English :)
I think Dutch is one of the hardest languages in western Europe. But I am a native speaker. So I cannot Judge, really. But I hear that from people who speak more languages than I do. I only speak Dutch, English and German.
I speak Dutch! Because.. I am Dutch :p (good enough reason right?) So basically: Go Dutch? .. It is a cool language, yes, but I prefer English over everything.. It's got more style and class than any language I know, plus it's used in just about anything important. (coding languages, international stock market, music) Even in The Netherlands, we can't go without English, we tend to use English an Dutch at the same time, just to be clear about specific stuff.. Also because the Dutch words are sometimes annyoing to use, especially by the younger people.. Whenever you have to purnounce an actual proper Dutch word, they tend to make slang or just use English.
Basic Dutch grammar is easy, until you get to the details (sentence diagram and the possibility that you can create words with an infinate amount of letters). Also there is no 'bridge' between German and English, I do agree that it's kinda in between but Dutch formed earlier than French influenced English. Many people struggle with the pronounciation of the 'r' (which is easy if you speak French tho because the sound is similar) 'g' 'ch' 'ij' 'ei' 'ui' and 'eu' are hard to pronounce if you're not a native speaker. The words are quite easy tho
I'm Dutch and Dutch is actually one of the worlds hardest languages to learn because the grammar literally makes no sense. There's always some kind of special rule to some words which makes you think that when you finally got it, you didn't get it at all. It's kinda like maths.
Ik ben Nederlands en ik ben 14 jaar oud. Ik vind het heel erg leuk dat je Nederlands aan het leren bent (I am dutch and I am 14 years old. I really like that You are trying to learn Dutch)
so I'm from Belgium and I got this to say: the "glucking" sink problem comes from an inadequate air flow, this could be solved by adding a one way air valve to your sewage/septic system. it's best if you add this piece high up but you could also put it beneath the sink. This would also help with the sewage smell because your water locks won't be drained.
I just started learning Dutch, got inspired to learn when I watched a film in Dutch. it's a really nice language, just need to get over the pronunciation
My great grand parents moved from the Netherlands to the US in the early 1900s. It would be cool to learn the language, to speak to my grandma in her parents language
Hmmm...i had first thought on learning svenska but from the 9 reasons you mention here, I'm game on learning dutch! Thumbs up and greetings from Mexico!
I'm dutch and I really like this video because you are sooo positive about dutch.. Number 4 is so true, we here are very happy with people from the other country's who speak dutch because it's an difficult language you know☺️

Cool video! But how do you learn Dutch, when you can already speak it quite well? I see many courses for beginners, but I find it so difficult to find a way to learn Dutch from a high level to the highest.
Hi Lindsay Williams! Could you please suggest me some good TH-cam channels to pick up Dutch (CEFR A1). I am already proficient in English (C1) and German (B1). Thanks in advance. :)
Hoi! ik kom uit Indonesia. Dat is een mooie video. Ik leer Nederlands, omdat ik daar wil studeren. Voor mij is Nederlands zeer interessant. Ik heb geen Nederlandse leraar, maar ik ben nog steeds enthousiast om Nederlands te leren.
Dutch is actually one of the harders languages to learn for people who don't come from a country where the speak Dutch. But you did a good job with saying the numbers in Dutch. Good luck with learning Dutch!
I am a native from the countryside of the Netherlands and I sometimes even speak with a accent. I can also understand Frisian and Flemish, although not completely. It's pretty nice that someone likes this harsh language. I really really like it. Yay!!! XD

Colonial Dutch in Michigan US. Some small pockets in Indonesia and the Molluken speak an old Dutch dialect. Canada there a considerable sized Dutch speaking community. And with Germans,...but they've got "trouble" understanding you the other way round;).
I noticed that "conversing with Dutch people" isn't given as a reason to learn Dutch... And after reading many of their replies on videos like this one, I can understand why.
I speak dutch, german and english (and a little bit of french, but it doesn't count)... german and dutch are my mothertongues (I live in germany, my dad is german and my mum is dutch) and i learn english at school for 5 years now... it funny to hear you speak dutch!
wat leuk dat je Nederlands aan het leren bent. ik kan me voorstellen dat de uitspraak heel moeilijk is. ik hoor vaak van mensen die geen Nederlands spreken dat het klinkt als een kapotte radio ;P
I'm dutch, and a lot off people say that dutch is an difficult language. But I would like it if more English people are going to learn Dutch Leuke video (great video)
I speak dutchhhhh (I'm belgian, I speak dutch, french, english, german and a little bit of italian) it's super sweat to hear that you like dutch so much!! Xx
reason number 4 is so true. when someone even tries to speak Dutch to me i think its very good.. A lot of people think way too easy cause almost every Dutch person knows English so they go for the easy way. But if you go for the hard way and really try to speak Dutch i am very proud!
Flemish is not a language similar to Dutch, it _is_ Dutch. Belgian Dutch (a.k.a. Flemish) and Netherlandic Dutch are much like British and American English. Favourite Grammar?
Every grammar rule that we've got has also got like three "sub" rules and none of our rules are precise there are always lots of exceptions!
It sucks its hard to learn.... French/german grammar is easier!
Ik dacht precies dezelfde 😂😂😩😩
hahahah
hetgijsful Will the exceptions ever stop? ;(
I think not.
yup.. I hate my grammar (I'm dutch)
Wow, Dutch grammar easy?

Ik sta een 5,8 voor Nederlands. Ik ben er echt slecht in hahaha
Waarom is dat raar, je krijgt Nederlands op een heel ander niveau dan Engels.
Dutch is waaaaay harder then German :) Ik ken ook iemand die Canadees is. En zij zegt dat Duits veeeeeel makkelijker is.
Zo leuk om te kijken...
Hoi! Ik spreek Nederlands, leuk dat je dit hebt gemaakt.
I live in the Netherlands and had English for six years I really appreciate tourists that speak a bit Dutch I think more people have to learn this language because its awesome :D
+rowen geleijns thanks! I looove the Dutch language (+ country!) so much! :)
I'm learning dutch because me fiancé and his family are from the netherlands. i want to be able to join in conversation with out them having to repeat themselves in english.
the moment I heard Audrey Hepburn speak dutch I fell in love with the language..
Yeah when someone whose not dutch tries his or her best to speek dutch to me i really appreciate it

I am dutch myself, about the grammar though... I think english grammar is way easier than dutch grammar...
Now you think the grammar is easy, but it's actually really hard. It's one of the hardest languages for foreigners to learn.
+Anouk van der Voort Hahahaha nice meme
+Anouk van der Voort No lol, Dutch is one of the easiest languages to learn for English-speakers.

+Nick Van Bael -Like what?
+maksim5078 that a town 😋
omg ja
+gribbering oaf ja die is ook moeilijk
I think its so awesome you talk a little Dutch! I love it when foreigners try to learn my language :)
There's not much grammar in Dutch your right, but in every grammar rule there are so much exceptions so that makes it really hard.
if you ask a dutch person (like me) we hate dutch grammar :P once you get into the advance rules even we give up
I totaly agree ,
Our grammar sucks (dutch grammar)
I love how, in the end, she talks about Belgium and she starts to sing a song from Stromae :)
+silke segers Big love for Stromae! :D
Dutch isn't that easy as she makes it sounds..
We in the netherlands say that dutch in one of the hardest laguages to learn😊
*is
it is because we say the 'g' hard and not soft and that is the same thing with the 'r' and that is difficult to learn for people who don't speak dutch
klopt
Well not only we.. Almost everyone.. She is literally the first person ever who said dutch is easy (what ive heard)
xD
according to the United Nations dutch is in catagory one, which is most simpel to learn for English speakers. Catagory five is the hardest, and is preserved for japanese.

Nice to see that you know the numbers in dutch❤ Love to everyone who speaks or want to speak dutch
I don't speak Dutch, but I could listen to you talk for hours. You are a very intriguing person.
If Dutch is so easy I don't understand why like 60% of Dutch people can't spell or use grammar correctly :').
Haha yup ;)
