I never understood why Spyderco didn’t do this in the first place. The compression lock looks unfinished to me. Like a part fell off. Great work on this mod, man!

Hope you have this patented. Spyderco needs to have a way to permanently fix this to their compression lock knives. You had a problem we didn’t know we had and came with a solution. Well thought out and executed.

Me I honestly like the burlap bag.. but others might not care you should have an option on your website.. I know I would have thrown the burlap bag in the knife collection and put stuff in it.. going to do the same with the plastic bag but first thought was tear it open throw it away.. I looked at it closely tho and saw that it was not melted shut so i didn’t need to rip the bag.

So I just received the CME yesterday and wanted to get a review out of first impressions etc to help anyone on the fence. I will add another comment later to discuss longevity. Anyway, I just installed this last night on a tanto PM2. This thing is awesome. The install was super easy and only took a few minutes. The little shelf on the CME made it easy to place and mount it. I am right handed and still this thing makes flicking the knife open/closed way easier and more enjoyable. I have probably played with this for hours now and it seems to hold up great. The look and feel of the CME is pretty close to seamless. Immediately it felt like I needed to order more for a few other Spydercos as well as one for my shaman. I plan to update this comment as time goes by and I get to experience it more as well test it's durability. As of now though, I am very pleased with the outcome. Thanks! -Nate
Just installed a couple of these on a couple pm2's and as a lefty these are a game changer. A couple of notes on how I did things a little differently: if you have a vice, use it, and gently clamp the knife with duct tape on the jaws to prevent any marring of the clip/ handle. I left the clip on, but if you're not comfortable doing that feel free to take the clip off. Secondly I used a double thickness strip of blue painters tape for the shim further making this more hands free, and really making the positioning and actual install of the CME a breeze.
I’ve got dozens of Spyderco knives with compression locks. At $25+ each, I can’t afford your CME for each knife. If the CME was $10-$15 ea., I’d buy them by the dozens.
I actually dropped my Para 3 a couple days ago, because of that stupid lock. Sliced my pinky on the way down and knife literally landed in my leg. Almost passed out from the blood.. Only left a small hole in my leg, but felt much worse. So, this is absolutely genius!!
Well that's a really inventive idea! Like the way it looks on the knife too! If you haven't yet apply for a patent and make the little lip on the part proprietary. Subscribing.
That's an excellent idea in order to improve the lives of lefties! In regard to removing the CME, would acetone/nail polish remover work for those of us that don't have access to a soldering iron/hair drier?
Unfortunately it will not. But you can always use a stove/toaster to heat it up. Just hole the liner with pliers, so you don't get burned. It doesn't take a lot of heat, as you could see in the video. So really any heat source will work!!! Thanks for watching!!!

Would you consider making a thinner version so it is more recessed/less flush with the scales to prevent accidental depression of the compression lock?
I have never heard anyone else mention this but, does anyone else's hand get pinched by the compression lock upon deployment? Mine does and I'm not some newbie. Does this product do anything to help with this? I find it hard to believe I'm the only one that experience's this.
(Open the knife) If you take about 2in of duct tape cut it in half (the long way) then tuck it inside the knife where the compression lock is then rap it around the scale and stick it to itself (then close knife), it makes a perfect shim and allows a super easy 2 handed install, one to hold the knife steady and the other to position the CME.
In my experience super glue don’t like to stick to metal especially very smooth polished metal. Have you tried scuffing the metal on the compression lock so the glue has something to bite into ?
As long as you cleaned both parts well and used enough glue, you'll be amazed how strong it is! I was for sure. CA glue was not my original plan but it worked so well it just made the most since. This way it keeps cost down and anyone can install them! I hope you enjoy it. Thanks so much for watching and the support!
You a God damn genius sir. I'm left handed as well and I love the compression lock because you don't have to put you fingers in the way of the blade to close it. But its is a bitch being left handed and trying to use it. I want 1!
I installed it on both my PM2 and PM3. Easy and solid on my PM2 but the angle is important on the PM3. It’s holding now, but I may need to sand down the angle on the PM3. Is that normal or is the 2nd CME maybe off a slight bit?
Yes it will, as long as the lock access area was copied from the Spyderco Scales. All of the aftermarket scales you can buy will work. If you have some "One Off" handmade scales, you may need to do some minor sanding on the scales or the CME to fit perfectly. Great Question, Thanks for watching!!!

Can I install this on a lefty paramilitary 2? Are both sides finished in a way that allows me to glue the side that would normally be touched? I know I don't need it, but you did mention it makes this easier for righty use, I really want one for my lefty knife.
I bought a knockoff cme and I apologize . Id t know that you were the inventor or I would have gladly sent my money your way. I ordered your kit for the shaman just now. A few observation, the knockoff did not have a shelf and it kept popping off the lock every week if i droped the knife or something or if it caught on my pocket. I anticipate being that yours is a superior design and that the shelf adds added retention to the lock when glued? Cant wait to try yours next week. Once u use a cme device using the stock lock just isn’t satisfactory. Hopefull spyderco offers collaboration deal with royalties or something. You deserve it everyone loves your product and everyone that has em prefers them going forward

I have several different approaches, but I was really going for something that anyone could install. I have a button conversion for Spydercos, but it requires drilling holes. As a left and a person who has owned a retail shop for over 20 years, I’d suggest making your deal buy 2 get one FREE. That way, almost everyone will spend $50- MAKING YOU A LOT MORE MONEY!. The only reason not to do this is if you are having many buyers return to buy another single, and then another. Also, by including a “free” one, it overcomes the hesitancy of people who fear they’ll just accidentally pluck it off and lose it. Won’t be a problem if you have a back-up or two, now will it? So that’s my take. Buy 2 get 1 FREE and watch your income skyrocket.

The great thing about these is they can easily be sanded to your liking. When finished sanding, add a touch of oil to bring the finish back. 😋
If spyderco made a slightly bigger cutout it wouldn't be that bad.
