You need to make sure that it is turned to the ps4 or xbox setting, without it being turned the microphone is never activated, if they are not charged, whenever you plug it in, a red led ill pop up letting you know that they are charging. I recomend that you get a new cable, so you can use them while charging. It's a hassle to have a cable in your face but its still okay. If youare botheredr by the fact that you can hearyourselff, its actually a feature in the headset, its like transparency mode on AirPods pro, if you don't like it, just lower the second notch with the little headphone and arrow pointing to mic. This will lowe the volume of how much you can hear yourself. I prefer to keep it on as it allows me to hear when someone comes in the room and I need to talk ot them, its just preference.
I love these, I have the white version. Whenever I use it on PC I like to use it on the xbox mode as the base is a lot clearer than on PS4. To be honest, on the PS4 mode it sounds like a clapped out Honda Civic with Walmart subs at 3 am, however on the XBOX setting for music, the bass is strong but not overwhelming as well as better audio quality without the bass in the way. If you want clapped out music PS4 if you want clear music XBOX, overall a great purchase.
I had the same problem with the headphones on ps4, I just found out the problem is the controller, try using the controller your console came with for the best listening experience
@-mitsuri kanroji- if your on pc turn the mic volume all the way down that stops echo you should still be able to talk but it’s also not really a echo it’s picking up your mic

These are honestly horrendous quality for what its priced. $50 - $70 for NO Audio control (cannot deffer between party and game volume or the headset will stop functioning) has to charge and be plugged in. It died while it was not being used. When using it at its mandated audio setting I cannot tell what people are saying over the game and sometimes they can't even hear me.

Hearing yourself is called side tone. This lets you know how loud you are. Without it, people tend to speak too loudly overcompensating

Check the connection
Unplug and unplug it back in. Make sure your switch is set to the console you're on. It resolved all those issues for me right away

So the USB is what charges the power making your mic louder?
Yeah, if it’s not charged the mic doesn’t work, but you can hear the actual audio. Slightly weird but it’s probably because of the flip to mute aspect

I'm pretty late. But maybe adjust your mic sensitivity on the back of the headset. Or in the settings of the xbox or playstation you can adjust.
