  • The glucose control solution that comes with your testing meter allows your meter and strips to work together properly.

FDA says that they are accurate within 20% (20 points). The calibration liquid seems to be saying the system is working properly within 30 points accurate, (the strips and calibration liquid are considered accurate between 22 - 52 points). If you are watching your pre-diabetes (say 108) this makes the accuracy of these systems useless. Try this test on occasion with your meter system, check 4 strips in a row, one after another. I often get ranges of 15, 20 and even 24 point spread. Which strip reading should I use then? Also check often for recalls on your meter and strips. I used a meter for a year (TrueResult) that had been recalled, no one told me. Be very careful on the accuracy of these meters, they are not like your bathroom weight scales!

LeamerCat Wild I almost puchased control solution. Once reading the very wide scale, I decided to save my money. I figure body glucose levels can fluctuate in an instant, by taking a walk to the mailbox, taking a shower, eating, etc. So, it's best, in my opinion, to see at what point of day the tests are taken (morning fasting only or 2-hours after a meal...). The resulting 14-day, 30-day, 45-day, 60-day averages is better suited to see where a person is at. Then use the math to convert it to A1C, until a lab test can be preformed.

83-125 range is wild, can't they come up with better accuracy?

Exactly. It's not even worth testing.

Which test solution do ypu get since it comes in Normal, High and Low? I can't even get a pharmacist to explain which one to get and my Freestyle kit did not come with a test solution.

I am not a doctor, but common sense dictates to me that you would buy the solution that covers the range where your test results normally fall.
OR, if you can afford all three, buy all three and test your meter with each one. The results would cover the full range of the meter.
