Ugly Trucks Need Love Too! - Replacing Stock Disc Brakes - 1970 Chevy C10 - UTX

  • Today at Ugly Truck, Emily's giving her LS swapped 1970 C10 some much needed attention. Years ago, we installed 1972 C10 front spindles, and converted this truck to front disc brakes, and machined the used rotors. Today, we picked up a brake kit from ‪@oreillyautoparts‬ for $119, with shiny new rotors and hubs, and ceramic brake pads. She also installs some new wheel bearings and wheel seals. Replacing the front brakes on these trucks is pretty simple, and it doesn't have to cost a fortune!

    You did it just about the same as I would. I would check ball joints and tie rods beforehand and do it all at once. Might save a bit of time. Nice job!

    • @UglyTruckExperience
      @UglyTruckExperience  ปีที่แล้ว

      We did replace the ball joints fairly recently, but I knew there was something funky in the front end. If I was smart, I would have had all new tie rods sitting here... especially since it's sitting on an alignment lift! 🤣 Thanks for watching!

    When replacing both calipers always remember to put the bleeder on top if the caliper' s do not have the L-R. Also a great time to grease your ball joints and other suspension points.

    • @UglyTruckExperience
      @UglyTruckExperience  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, it is definitely easier to bleed the brakes when the bleeder is at the top! 😁 Thanks for watching! --Emily

    I enjoyed hanging out, I haven't seen that part of the shop before. Those simple plastic cone bearing packers work good. I bought it to save on the palm for the annual boat bearing repack

    • @UglyTruckExperience
      @UglyTruckExperience  ปีที่แล้ว

      It's hard to get the Ugly Trucks into the shop, so I had to sneak it in on the alignment lift. 🤣 We do need to get a bearing packer one of these days... It would have saved some time on this job for sure! Thanks for hanging out! --Emily

    My dream truck I’ve been wanting a 67/72 and can’t find anything worth fixing. I don’t know how you folks are so lucky. But pm me if you get one that is good enough to just drive every day with a smile on my face. I am disabled but I can work on vehicles but I’ll get my son to help with heavy stuff but I’ve done those brakes several times. But it’s got to be a good price for me and I don’t mind extra air conditioning I can patch it. But it’s the wood bed floors that get me but hay if it’s my dream truck or car and its priced right I can figure it out. But at 53 years old it’s probably going to be a pipe dream? But it’s in God’s hands. God bless you and I love watching your channel because you are truly like me getting it running and test drive it. People would think I’m crazy because if I ever get my dream truck and car I honestly know I will have a big stupid smile while driving it around.

    Nice job! You can also use the nut to pop out the rear bearing and seal…pop out the outer bearing, put the nut back on a couple turns, pull downward on the rotor slightly. You want to hook the inner bearing on the nut. At which point you pull on the rotor like you were using a slidehammer. The rotor comes off and your inner bearing and seal are hanging on the spindle…remove the nut, bearing and seal…I’ve done this thousands of times before everything became a floating rotor design…thanks! PS torque your caliper pins to 38ft/lbs…

    • @UglyTruckExperience
      @UglyTruckExperience  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks! I didn't show it in the video, but I did mention that I washed them. I like to get the dust caps on and the grease sealed up, and give the rotors a good clean on the truck. And yes! You'll be seeing Frankenstein very soon! One of our viewers hooked us up with some disc brake front spindles, and now we have these used rotors and hubs... At least our Chevy was like that when we found it... 🤣 It's so hard to put out content that everyone wants to see. I know we have a lot of subscribers that want to see us LS swap everything that comes in, and a lot of others who cringe at that thought. We love anything with an engine, and running a repair shop Mon-Fri, we've been really lucky with the variety of vehicles we get to work on. We just make videos that we think interesting, and try to make it entertaining and educational, but we cross our fingers every time we post a new video hoping that you guys like it as much as we do. 😂 We put a lot into these videos, and your feedback and support are much appreciated! Do you by chance know what the measurement is from the bottom of the A-pillar to the bottom of the first hinges bolt hole on you 70 C-10?

    • @UglyTruckExperience
      @UglyTruckExperience  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi Richard! It's hard to measure with the door on, but if I hook the tape on the bottom of the lower bolt head, it's 9 1/8" to the very corner of the A pillar. If you send us a picture on our Facebook page, I'll try to get some better measurements. --Emily
