As the most die hard Ohio State fan, I can comfortably say the SEC is the best conference currently and have been for the last 10+ yrs. Idk why its so hard for people to use their eyeballs. I do believe the gap is slowly getting smaller between the big ten and sec however that will still take years more of results to prove. Just enjoy the sport folks. @elliotthoward4738 first I'm a PSU fan boy. Second 1 off wins do not make a point. It takes 3 years to get a trend going. The fact is the BIGTEN hasn't been promoting football to the level the SEC has.. there's a lot of reason why, but they are starting to. In 2027 it's going to look a lot different then it does today. Big games, better recruiting better development at the lower tiers will led to a deeper more interesting BIG10. Iowa will have to hire an Offensive staff and support staff, psu will need to nearly double their support staff again to get it to the level of an osu and MiCheaters.

It’s actually mind blowing that this is even a discussion rn. The SEC has won 6 of the last 9 championships and 15 of the last 21. Oregon was argued as potentially the best team in the B1G and was struggling with Idaho from the Sky Conference. Michigan struggled with Fresno State which is basically the same if not worse that Colorado State who Texas beat by 50. Meanwhile Ohio State despite spending $20M in NIL is too scared to play a power 4 conference team in the non conference. The only thing the B1G hangs on is USC beating the 6th best team in the SEC in LSU in a game that took everything. People don’t even recognize that LSU has been on a downslope the past 4 years and lost all of their past 4 season openers. Yet USC and Joel Klatt celebrate like they won the natty. Sad. Don’t listen to your Joel Klatts or your Colin cowherds who work for Fox and spread B1G propaganda. Watch the actual games and you’ll see the truth quickly.

I'm not sure we're seeing the same games? B1G has dominated the SEC this year with very few exceptions (Mizzou). Your flagship team just lost QB1 to portal money at Miami. Bama used to stack their roster with 5's and 4's. None of them are going to sit a season, so they are all for hire. Just look at the number hitting the portal from Tennessee immediately after their blow out loss. The game is for sale to the highest bidder. Start mortgaging your house if you want to keep pace with the Phil Knights of the world. The lucrative ESPN contract won't float the SEC because it can't be used for NIL.

SEC first, and I'm a Big 12 fan saying this. B1G is now interesting because you got 4 big time additions to start the year. Honestly, had it only been USC and UCLA, it would be nowhere near enough to contend with SEC, getting Washington and Oregon was the real win and now you a more balance for schools from high and low tier to compete, before it was just Penn State, Michigan, and Ohio State. Now its those 3, USC, Washington, and Oregon with the possibility of Nebraska and maybe Wisconsin doing something great this year going forward in future seasons.
But the fact of the matter is, the SEC just well rounded overall with matchups that worth watching regardless and the best new additions to league is the perfect cherry on top for them. If there are any schools now that should just the the SEC to really seperate itself as a independent football power conference dynasty, landing Ohio State and Michigan would seal the deal, and trade Vandy for Notre Dame (sorry Vandy).
Just thinking aloud but that would be a hell of football conference and on top of that, ESPN and CBS whatever media rights partner would throw a shit ton extra money where each school would be making a fixed least $75-85 million per school year because all games would be considered superbowl and CFP matchups.

This was my thinking coming in from the last season, even with Michigan winning it all, I just thought everything past Michigan and OSU has been such a disappointment, PSU included, that there's nothing really to compare.
This year though, man I'm quickly having my mind changed. It's not just what the B1G got, and the surprise starts for PSU and USC for their offensive and defensive production respectively, or that Nebraska has an exciting piece at QB which is always good for ratings. All of that is great, but I think lost in the ACC's...well let's say it's the grand karmic retribution of the rest of the ACC for fun, was the absolute stink bomb the SEC threw week 1. Georgia and Clemson battled for all of two quarters before Dabo's insistence on believing in Klubnik lost him his future job security (probably) showed up early in the 3rd quarter when Clemson had the ball on Georgia's 7 yard line to make it a 1 score game, but that was it. The rest of the "top" of the league spent the weekend playing in glorified pre-season matchups that were boring even for fans, and then they went on to fail their 3 big tests against Miami, Notre Dame, and USC. Vandy upset a mediocre VaTech team that returned a lot of players who didn't really play very well last year, and that was it.
I know plenty of people will come on here and talk about how none of those teams were anywhere near the top of the SEC, but they still all lost, two of them at home in "SEC Country" and all three were picked by SEC fans to win. That whiplash of losing all three got SEC people saying none of them were supposed to be any good, and others might as well have played I don't know Furman or something.

There is no practical way to decide which conference is better top to bottom year to year and is just a silly question. The conference is going to get respect by how they do in bowls and championships, but like he said those are not evenly matched and now most of the top players sit out for the draft. Also, I’m not a Nebraska fan, but they might be one of the better Big Ten teams this year and they are not even on this list somehow. Silly to make such a list and argument after one game.

I trust the betting odds more than any other measuring stick out there to determine the overall strength of teams. However, I wouldn't blindly trust the odds or hypothetical spreads alone. The oddsmakers bake points in based on what they think will draw in the most bettors. There could be a standard deviation variance of 3-5 points for each game. For example, oddsmakers know more bettors would bet on Georgia over Ohio state. So, in this hypothetical, if Georgia was only -2 over ohio state, that would likely result in less money being wagered in the market than if Georgia was -4.5 as it is now because of the fact that bettors would worry that ohio state is better than they thought or Georgia is not as good as they thought and as a result they'd bet less $$$$ or not bet at all.

USC is being totally disrespected in the AP & Coaches polls at #11 they should be well ahead of Oregon, Michigan & Penn St. all three of those teams don't look very solid at all right now plus USC has a better win than any of them. I Thought Oregon was just buying players but I didn't know they were buying rankings SMH. Moving over to the SEC teams outside of Georgia & Texas concerning Alabama. Ole Miss & Missouri & to some degree even Tennessee has literally played nothing but trash scrimmage level teams. Georgia looks real good but truth is they real haven't played anyone yet either unless you consider Clemson valid which I don't but it was a Good win for Georgia & Salute to Texas. The truth is outside of Texas & Georgia we really don't know what any of the next 4 SEC teams are really about yet they have played no one excpet Saint Mary's Girls School but we do know USC beat LSU one of the top teams in the SEC & USC is noticeably better than Missouri. I would put USC at 4 right now just based on the opposition they beat & how. Miami is also being disrespected I would put Miami ahead of both Penn St & Oregon at least for right now. 1 Georgia 2 Texas 3 Ohio St. 4 USC concerning 5,6,7,8,9 & 10 put them where you like but Miami should be ahead of at least 2 of the SEC teams. Even in the playoff era the SEC bias still exist.

Well...not a direct measurement but indirectly, by looking at the best players / conference over say the last 20 years .....how many times has each won the NFL draft (SEC won that ... what ... 18 years in a row ?)
If we assume those who put these things together are fairly adept at what they do .... looking at strength of schedule.
Strength of Schedule average SoS for every team in the conference. The only one that looks out of place to me is the ACC ...
    SEC 21.81
    Big 10 29.17
    ACC 40.76
    Big 12 45.06
    Ind 77.67
    PAC 83.00
    MWC 95.42
    SBC 95.50
    MAC 98.08
    SBC 105.50
    AAC 110.57
    USA 108.80
By this metric, with SEC at 21.81 and Big 10 at 29.17, .... the gap is 7.36 .... Last year it was 25.07 and 60.36 for a gap of 35.09 ... so by that metric, the gap has closed a lot. The shocker for me is the ACC coming in higher than the Big 12. The ACCs No 10 is now unranked, ant the No. 11 is now 25/

@@JM-wf2to I think his argument is the SEC hasn't had depth. It kind of pans out. Take Saban out of Alabama and how many titles does the SEC have in that span? How many of the top teams under Georgia and Alabama on a yearly basis were teams that had big OOC wins? Texas A&M hasn't looked great, LSU loses all the time, Florida beat Utah then just laid a dusty egg against Miami in the Swamp. I'm not saying these are the best teams in the SEC, but name someone Ole Miss has beaten outside of the SEC that made you think they were great. Because last year their best win was against Tulane. They outscored an LSU team that couldn't play defense, and beat an SEC schedule that was under .500 overall. When they played Alabama they lost by 2 scores, and they got blown the heck out by Georgia 52-17 I think. Most of the SEC "depth" each year has looked like that. Teams look like like they have good resumes because they had the honor of losing to Alabama or Georgia.
