      Yes, I've settled in on Lowe's Kobalt line, because you get 24 instead of 18 or 20 volts and their battery prices are the best I've seen. A few years back, they were a fraction of everyone else's. I've got some Dewalt stuff too, so I need to remind myself that aftermarket adapters are available. Do you just get yours on Amazon? Aftermarket batteries are worth looking at too. They aren't as good as OEM batteries, but considering their price, they're probably still well worth it.

    The Milwaukee comes with a crevice tool, which is a more fair comparison to the ridgid's narrow tool. The other option would be to do the testing without an attachment and just use the 1.5" opening or whatever. Also, if the Ridgid had a HEPA filter it might not do as hot as it did. I know there was a lot of variables, but the devil is in the details. The only other detail I would mention would be something like "real world application" which would include the vacuum design. The Ridgid, with the awkward handle, is tough to store anywhere, especially on a work truck, whereas the box design of the Milwaukee makes it ideal to store on a shelf or can easily be stacked upon. Along the same lines of real world application would be the battery versatility - Ryobi probably takes the points for the number of other tools the battery can be cross used in, followed by Milwaukee. I think all and all they are similar and that's fine, but when you get down to brass tacks, did Ridgid really win?

      The suction power was established with the water lift test and the air velocity measurement. That was just testing the supplied tool. As an owner of a Ridgid, Sears and Shop vac, the tool on the ridgid is my go to for pretty much all jobs. As you mentioned, it does offer an advantage.

    Based on this review I found out I could put some adapters on the Ridgid (large one) and use my DeWalt batteries with it. Best cordless vac by far. I am getting rid of my M18 now. The hose diameter being larger is a real game changer and not having to hunt for a plug and dual batteries makes it 5x better. I've used DeWalt, harbor freight, shopvac, Milwaukee, etc. and all of them have too little suction or are corded. This one is the perfect general duty job site debris/dust sucker. I still have my big corded DeWalt for when I have to excavate a hole, but the Ridgid will stay in my trailer.

    Accessories such as hoses and heads/tips can easily be replaced/upgraded for a relatively low price.

    Nice vid as always! only had a couple of points on this one tho, the rigid had a far smaller nozzle which gave it a massive advantage in terms of suction, say you had 3 lines of holes, yes you could completely clear a line of holes in one pass but you would need to do so 3 times. Also what does their lifetime warranty actually include compared to 3/5 years? Just thought I'd mention it as your videos always seem so fair but this seemed ever so slightly in favour of rigid. (also with the nozzles pinging sand it seemed as though you were pushing harder and more towards front of nozzle rather than back edge, though this could have been bad ergonomics encourageing the used to use it in this way)

    So I tried the NXT cordless by Rigid. Context: I'm Canadian and my vacuum needs are to handle three large hairy dogs so I have to use a shopvac to meet the demand (normal pet vacuums have died on me). Short version: extremely prohibitive and not economical if you don't own the Rigid 18v platform. Long story: It's an excellent vacuum in terms of performance and ease of use. For the price of the unit alone the value is amazing. The large size and light weight are an additional plus. Just like VW's review it's excellent on suction. The cons can be summarized as: it's too darn expensive to own this platform if you're outside of the US (or least I assume). In canada you're narrowed down to only getting it from Home Depot. Cost of the 9.0Ah batteries are astronomical depending on region, ballparking $200 per unit. Charger is $100. So I tried this with two 3.0Ah and I got a practical run time of 15 minutes... Which scales to what VW was getting with two 9.0Ah. So $160 for the unit + $80 on clearance for x2 batteries + $99 for charger is a little much for 15 minutes. If you already have the Rigid battery platform by all means it's excellent. If you aren't willing to commit then really assess your needs.

    Lifetime warranty means shipping an item that will inevitably cost so much to ship you likely will give up before you redeem it is the strategy with Rigid. If their goal was to garuantee their products for a very long time, they would train their sales partners on their RMA process and take them back at the stores.

    Just purchased the Ridgid vacuum mentioned in this video as well as a 9Ah 18V battery (also by ridgid obviously) and was very disappointed in just how powerful he made it out to be in the video. For how expensive this combination of products is (282.80) it's definitely not worth it in my opinion. Needless to say I will be returning mine. I'll step off my soapbox now.

      I got the Ridgid vac (The dual battery one) for $50 (normally $99) and two adapters for $20 each. Now I can use my Dewalt batteries with it, and it is the most powerful cordless vacuum I've used so far (compared to DeWalt, M18 and M18 Packout). However, it is loud. The packout is quite a bit quieter.

    Would you mind doing a review of some compact cordless handheld vacs from Ridgid/Makita/Milwaukee, etc.? Ridgid has a new and very inexpensive compact handheld vac R860902B which has impressive CFM for its very small size. Makita's series of compact cordless vacs including the latest XLC04 excel in their strong suction power. Love to find out how they perform.

Unless there's some brand I missed *none* of these come with a 9 Ah power source, so users won't have the same experience. Unless they get the vac and a jumbo battery too.

      Manufacturer's CFM ratings for their own vacs shouldn't be taken too seriously, I'm afraid. I tested the Hoover variant of the larger Ryobi vac - they claimed 65 CFM, but I was able to achieve well over 100 CFM. So the small Ryobi getting 60 instead of the 45 claimed sounds about right.

  • @chrislj2890
    @chrislj2890 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    At Home Depot the 9 gallon vac costs $99, the dual charger $79, and ONE battery $199. So the whole rig with two batteries can rack up $576. Now that's what I call a real bargain. Or you could get their 9 gallon corded model for $62.97. Decisions, decisions ...

    • @suppaman12
      @suppaman12 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      CHRIS LJ it’s geared more for people who already use the ridgid lineup. Meaning they would already have the charger and battery. I owned this vac and it’s awesome, I only have two 6ah but it’s more than enough to vacuum 3 cars and no need for a recharge

      That's cordless for you. Pretty much all cordless, Bluetooth, wireless, etc etc are going to cost a big chunk of change. Why? Because the amount of times of testing batteries, demanding more power and run time.
      In my opinion I would upgrade to a wet/dry vac cordless 9 gallon Rigid. I have a wet/dry 6 gallon rigid and it does an ok job but seeing the little cordless 3 gallon Rigid I was blowed away. The little guy has more suction than my 6 gallon Rigid how embarrassing.

    Might be worth mentioning the possible loss of power as the battery discharges, but Dyson typically have a regulator, to keep the power constant - yes? For the models that don't have a regulator, perhaps the run time should be measured to the point at which suction drops below an "acceptable" threshold?

    The review was great. Something worth noting however is that the Rigid's price for the cordless 9gal vacuum may not factor the battery cost. Those 9.0ah suckers are not cheap. You're talking more expensive than the vacuum itself. Which, for two of them, triples your cost. Ive read reviews stating you really need the 9.0 to make it worth it. I'm going to grab one and test it with two 3.0ah that I got on clearance.
    Thanks VW for the insight!

      On an extra note for those considering this vacuum (Including myself), if you don't have Rigid battery platform then factor the cost of the charger. I'm from Canada and they average $100 for just the charging port. As a Milwaukee platform supporter, this will be a prohibitive transition that could be equivalent to just buying the Milwaukee Backpack Vac, which is $465.
