I could hear Joey swearing all through the HUGE ramp removal.....lol
You guys are so good that when you show these dirty machines I can already see how clean it will be when you are done.
Thanks for watching! We appreciate it
This era of machine is from when I was working in an arcade. I appreciate that they didn't all have to be tied to some intellectual property like all the new ones seem to.
The link to intellectual property ( IP ) is what makes them the money. It outweighs licensing fees. With that said, it is not tied to the IP as such. The companies pay a licensing fee, and they get the rights to make the game. This has been going on for a long time. Go back to EM days, Wizard comes to mind. OR maybe the KISS one in the earlier solid state era. Licensing has been used for decades to sell games.
If you were meaning IP as in the design of the electronics, well..... that goes back a long time too. Gottlieb still protect their IP by restricting the schematics.
@EsotericArctos I understand all that, it just seems like every single new game is based on an existing movie franchise or something similar. I guess that's what draws people in, but I find it to be kind of a turn-off.
@@christhompson2006Not every new game is like that, it’s just the ones that aren’t (Galactic Tank Force, Total Nuclear Annihilation, Dialed In…) are not very popular so that perpetuates the idea that a successful machine has to have a licensed IP.
I’m still unsure about that… GTF didn’t fail because of theme, it failed because it was a buggy mess of code. And TNA set out to do exactly what it accomplished… create a unique game that fuses old and new and appeals to a niche group of fans rather than mass appeal, and Dialed In… well I don’t know much about Dialed In honestly. Regardless, I think an unlicensed theme can succeed but I don’t blame manufacturers from looking at the sales of recent games without an IP and saying they don’t want to take that risk.
@@shivorath I mean you really can and should blame corporate leaders for taking the least risky approach.
Anybody can read sales and marketing reports and do the obvious thing. That’s not real leadership if 100% of your direction is based on previous performance data, the data becomes the boss and everything goes on autopilot. Not sure why that’s worth a giant salary.
It’s much harder to bet on yourself, and the few who can do that successfully are the ones who should be in leadership positions.
@@christhompson2006 I agree. But that's how pinball survives today. You can't just decide to make a Taxi or Black Knight or Roadshow. It needs to appeal to the homebuyer now. The older generation like this machine was the classic era.
I’ve been waiting on this one for a while ! I was a teenager in the early 90’s . This is from my era of pinball . I know you guys don’t normally do the more moderns but I love when you do !!!! I know it’s a bigger money investment but the returns are much better . That baby will be worth 4-5 grand all cleaned up ! Nice job as always!
I remember this one. The system 11 era was one of my favorites, both for the games and the electronics.
Thanks for getting the T-shirts out so quick! You didn't have to do that. well I mean you had to send me the shirts kinda... but you did it lickity split! Impressed by but not surprised with the quality of the shirts... Have a great weekend ... yeah I know always be working... but hope its a good one ;)
That's silkscreened here in the good ol' Carolinas, straight outta Dixie
Feel the POWER of the storm!
Classic - played this when it was brand-new in our local 7-11
25:10 My favorite table cleaning tune! :) 32:20 2nd favorite tune! Always like the videos Ron and Joe!
@kenlanier2131 Some of that music was quite funky, I was digging it.
Ah, that sexy time music whenever Joe starts waxing the playfield. Gets me every time. LoL
Starship Fantasy was an arcade in Tempe Arizona back in the early 80s! I played on a video game team there. Wonder if there is a relationship between that and the place you got your nice new ramps? 🤔
Cool machine - love the theme! And it really cleaned up nice! Now I gotta get me some of the *good* Windex! 😃
Hearing Joe's comments on the play field and cleaning is a good add.
Pretty amazing what a little Windex, magic eraser, and elbow grease can accomplish. Great job, as usual, Joe.
The playfield did clean up pretty well. I wonder what surprises the electronics have in store. Have a great weekend.
I had no idea how the game was supposed to look. I actually thought that the pattern on the spinners was intentional. It looks amazing!
I’ll have to get some commercial grade windex. Nice job.
Real good start on this machine. … It’s always fun to get some new parts for a playfield. Those ramps look excellent now. The playfield now looks completely different (and better) than it did before you started. Thanks for posting boys.
Looking forward to the next part of the adventure! Thanks guys. Have a good weekend!
Thanks, See you Tuesday
It is cleaning up nice Guys! The new ramps are great.
Thanks for the video, looking forward to seeing how you repair the missing segments on the display
Nice looking machine. Cannot wait to see it done.
I love this game. Is there a sandpaper type surface on the whirlwind discs? It used to throw the ball all over the place. The full mylar cover really saves these older machines. You are right Joey.. she got hot... real hot. Like Texas storage building in August hot!!! Keep up the good work guys. Have a great weekend everyone!
I have been using Naphtha to clean the playfield. I'll have to give that Windex commercial line a try. I like the idea of a user friendly spray on cleaner. Seems to be a lot more efficient. Another great video y'all. Keep on keepin' on!!
Worked long ago at an Arcade and had Whirlwind and Earthshaker. Good times!
I like the new music but kinda miss the old "adult video" music too hahaha. This machine was a nice score for y'all, thanks for sharing!
Reading through the comments I guess I haven't watched far enough yet haha
It's nice to see a Williams classic to be worked on repairs and it's on its way to be fully playable. Keep up with the good work.
I also used to play this table in my PSP, which was included in the game, Pinball Hall of Fame: The Williams Collection.
I love these in depth build videos it shows the in depth work that goes in to every detail and why these machines as well as the mechanic are so rare ... Like finer than frogs hair y'all !
Excellent! This game is going to turn out amazing! Great work Joe! The play field and ramps look new!
That's quite an improvement, looks great, nice job!
I also see these as "new" machines. But some people don't get this. A former boss called me because he had heard that I repair old pinball machines. I told him that a Dr. Who was way too new for me and that I had no experience with it. He responded by saying: "You're still going to fix it!" A few days later he called and asked "where do you live exactly? I'm in your street with the machine in my truck." So I couldn't refuse anymore. Eventually I managed to get the machine completely fixed. Fortunately you had given me the necessary self-confidence.
I’m glad to hear you fixed it!
Another beautiful job! I'm passing through Rock Hill next week and if I'm good, the wifey poo might let me pay you guys a visit. So, if you smell something funny, that would be me. -Rick
I'll have the Febreze ready, Thanks for the heads up!
Great job! 😁
Beautiful machine!
Well sonofa... had no idea windex had a commercial formula. I'll look for that next time, thanks for the tip!
Cleaned up nicely. Got my High Speed ramp from Starship as well. 👍🏻
I like the Williams, i folowed you guys and fully repaired my f-14 tomcat from box all the way up. Love the semi new😂 games.. system 11
Love this. Can’t wait for the next one.
Looks like it's going to be a really fun machine, it scrubbed up well.
Looks like this PIN has been through a “Whirlwind.” Also, remember when I told you about the Pinball Hall of Fame games, both the Williams Collection and the Gottlieb Collection for the Wii? I caved and bought a Wii just for those two games.
Cool episode, thanks!
Watered down Windex from Cheena? 😉 Machine is looking good! Very cool music! The last cleaning song always reminds we of Level 42's Physical Presence.
Amazing machine!
53:16 i really appreciate these videos on these "newer" pins. Most of the ones i have in my lineup at my arcade are System 11s. I hope you can diagnose the display issues too and if it's related to the SRCs in the display circuit
Looks like fun!
It’s Broke will never get old . I do like Joes new idea for “Its Fixed” 🤣
Love the Corn music......worked those areas slow
I guessed 94 on the quarter. So close, no free game 😁
Love me some Whirlwind!💨💨💨💨💨
Cool Game
cool i have one of them!!
WILL Joe get his slingshot plastics!? IS the fan going to work!? DOES Ron know that his brother STOLE his peanuts!? Tune in next week to find out❗❗❗
Cleaned up nice. Those packing peanuts are nice because they are biodegradable. They melt to nothing in water. I believe they are made from some type of corn product.
I wonder if the “uv light” method would work on restoring some of the unobtainium plastics that are yellowed from age. Thanks for sharing guys.
Possibly!
peace be upon you sir from me
For Sure Joe I buy my Windex from home Depot by the gallon !
I mean, Joey isn't wrong when he says 'It's Broke' :P
Dig the 70's PRON MUSIC
Awesome video love all of your guys work it is so satisfying to watch. have you ever tried to use Dawn Power Wash to clean a playfield it will melt the work nicotine and grime without harming the original surface
I haven't' tried that yet but I will give it a shot! Thanks for watching!
I remember it well...
Joe said parting it out, when he should have said "it broke!"
The more "modern" machines are cooler imo, but i know you guys love the older ones.
First pinball I owned, back in like 92-93. Sold it in 95 to buy Twilight Zone.
IT'S BROKE ❤
I count 16 lights not working on the play field
wow i wish i had 5k to throw at you to buy that game it looks so cool i would love to get one of thease with the coin parts intact because i would use it as a piggy bank lol
Loved this machine back in the day, have this table setup on my virtual machine atm. I wonder what you guys sold it for. Btw how much for that fun house machine in the background of the video?
Whirlwind sold for 5k, We don't have a price yet for the funhouse but it will likely be a little more
Do they have new stickers for the spinners?
Did you ever have to make a mold of the old ramp and resin pour for a new clear ramp that’s not manufactured in a pinball Machine
I've never had to do that but it would be fun!
Poured resin would be insanely difficult to get right. If I had to, I would use high-grade (w/minimal styrene content) acrylic in 1/8 or 3/16". A "run" would consist of a floor, for the ball to run on, and a left and right fence, spaced away from the floor with 1/4 - 3/8 tubing and held on by a decorative nut. The floor section would of course be wider to accommodate the spacers which hold up the left and right fences. Plot the shapes on the acrylic sheet, cut them out on the bandsaw, sand to final shape, wet-sand and polish the edge to transparency.
...The first time you turned it on, it reset to 'Factopy' settings. And still said 'Factopy' when the word moved from the left side to the right side of the display, so it wasn't a bad element.
As far as that Windex goes..yeah. you can tell by looking at it that the 'commercial' stuff is more concentrated..and probably gives off more fumes, which is probably part of why the non-commercial stuff is weaker. Not to mention most commercial uses would demand faster results than the average residential user.
Ron working on an Alpha-Numeric? A few weeks ago working on a DMD? Is the world upside down?
We are multi talented around here
@@LyonsArcadethank goodness for that! Love your guy's content!
What song starts playing at like 11:05 when Joe STARTS the disassembly?
Hey guys!!
Hey Jason!
We had a Stevie B's by us...they just had the crane games and other "luck" games...no Pinball. :(
Did you know that every ailment from psoriasis to poison ivy can be cured with Windex. Yep. iykyk.
Gnarly
Those look like those biodegradable corn based peanuts!
Was that a ball gag on the playfield?
👍👍👍😎☕
Solid state Machines are worth quite a bit more than EM Machines.
I understand you guys run a business and that the cost of things is important, and please understand I respect that, but hearing about it in many videos is a bit distracting from the content for me. I love you guys, don't get me wrong, I just find that part a little distracting from the main content.
Now Ive had my whinge, I do love seeing these machines come to life and the restorations are fantastic. This game has some neat tricks in it, even for a "newer" machine :)
Mandatory positive comment
thank you for your dedication to the rules :)
That literally made me lol, gotta stay positive!
What does Ron have to reveal?
Will the Whirlwind be completed and restored, or will Ron admit to neco waffer addiction.
What about Joe? Will he declare the next machine broke, or will he be able to save this machine from the junk pile.
What about Donnie? Will he upload another video, or will he crash this channel with a bottle of root beer in hand.
To the answer, these and other burning questions tune into
Joes classic arcade.
Novus 2 too expensive? Water based product seems wrong on wood.
Works Great
Yodelayheehoo
How come you don't let Donnie play with any games?
We do! th-cam.com/video/o9bQDq4--jE/w-d-xo.html
P is an R? That’s Russian.
10:08 INSEPT coin, I think the 5th ones BROKE
52:54 You think that phone number on the display can still get us some Whirlwind tees like it advertises? I'm so curious...
90-97 are in my opinion the best erra for pinball
