ELVIS HAD A VOICE carved FROM GOD. HE WAS BORN INTO THIS WORLD TO DELIVER A MESSAGE of unity, peace and belief in God. Everyone wont get that message, but the ones of that do need to spread the message to others. He was born to bring people together, through music. Elvis was very different. Very special. Powerful. Other worldly.

  • @norsken69xg

My absolute favorit Elvis gospel song...
Truth is, THIS, was the kind of music Elvis himself enjoyed singing - preferably together with the best backup singers ever, "The Stamps", with the super bas-singer J.D. Sumner. After each concert, they would sit and sing religious songs for hours. (Pls, try "Why Me Lord", with Elvis and JD Sumner - if that song doesn't send chills down your spine... ;) )

    • @ptournas
      @ptournas 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

This is the 1957 recording first released on a "His Hand in Mine" on a 45 rpm EP. I remember having that EP, which also had another one of my favorite Gospel song's by him, "Peace in the Valley". I later also had both these songs on his first Christmas album.
The backup singers on this version were The Jordanaires, who were with him until the early seventies, when he started doing the Las Vegas shows. He wanted them to back him in Vegas, but they also did a lot of other backup studio work for other artists and didn't feel they could do those shows and keep up all the studio work, so he hired the Sweet Inspirations as his backup group.
After that Elvis hired The Imperials to sing the backups with the Sweet Inspirations. If I remember right, they were only with him a year or two and then he hired JD Sumner and The Stamps to add the male backup voices. The combination of the Sweet Inspirations and The Stamps did his backups until he died.
My personal favorite was always the Jordanaires, but thats just my opinion. Of course Elvis always knew how to choose the best available backup singers, so I wouldn't argue with anyone who thinks differently. They were all among the best!
One interesting tidbit that many aren't aware of - The Jordanaires provided backup on every Patsy Cline record!

I heard both gentlemen say this, Elvis' first love was Gospel music and that after a concert tired ir not, they would go back stage and stay up most of the nigh singing gospel songs. One of Elvis' Favorite songs was The Old Ship of Zion. At the time they both believed that Elvis' biggest problem was that he was running from God and not in his will.

He's an eightish version of Elvis, same voice, same build, white-hair, white beard. When he's asked about Elvis, he just shakes his head and smiles. I watch his church services on YT. His voice is even better, now. He's married and has 3 grown children. This man is truly happy and at peace in what he's doing. With all my heart, I hope it IS Elvis.

Thomas a Dorsey wrote this hymn under tragic circumstances. He as a way performing in concert when he got a phone call telling him that his wife had gone into labour with their first child. He had wanted to postpone the concert but his wife insisted on him going. When he arrived at the hospital he was informed that his wife had died in child birth. A few days later his new born son also died. In his grief he wrote the lyrics that we hear today. Elvis was able to capture the grief and loss in his rendition of this hymn like nobody else.

He definitely did gospel first before inventing rock and roll. Then he became aware that the African- American community was already doing rhythm and blues with Chuck Berry and Little Richard. He had a spiritual connection to God very early in his life which never left him. Like Aretha, so many pop singers got their first exposure to music and performing in the church.

He didn’t invent Rock & Roll. He also rejected the claim he always corrected people that it was Fats Domino as the King of R&R and the inventor of the genre.

@@neekarobertson8314 Thank you for your comment. I'm not going to disagree with you, in fact, I don't want to debate as to who did what or when, it probably took a whole village of folks to bring about rock and roll to the world starting with Robert Johnson, Big Mama Thornton, Bill Haley & The Comets, Leadbelly, Muddy Waters, Jerry Lee Lewis, Buddy Holly, Richard Pennington, Charles Berry. It was Elvis that brought the mass appeal and Allen Freed to coin the phrase rock and roll in 1955. If Elvis says Domino is the king, so be it. Millions will always say Elvis is the King but one things for sure, Mr Presley never forgot who the King of Kings was and is. We should all follow his example of humility and generosity to others but not his excessive way of life when it came to food, drugs and women. That kind of success is hard to handle. Not everyone does as well as Olivia Newton-John.

Elvis was touched by God and told to sing the word. He had to have been, because nobody did it better. He was such a good humble man also. Part of me died when Elvis died.

As a teenager Elvis sung in his church choir. He grew up in the ghetto of Memphis. He got him abilities from singing in that church and poking his head into blues and jazz clubs.

One of Elvis" big problems was he wanted to record and perform gospel songs but RCA and the Colonel wouldn't let him. He would take his singers back stage and sing Gospel songs and cry

I am only barely into the beginning of watching this but I wanted to comment that not only did he grow up in the church oh, he was born into poverty and always had a strong connection to the black community and I think at informed all of his singing. Gospel is probably the thing he is absolutely the best. Although he's good at anything he wanted to do basically.

When Elvis sings gospel. You can feel the spirit. He had an anointing from God especially with his gospel music. I think everybody cries when they hear this song especially it just touches you at the deepest level. ✌️

Gospel first. Then Rock and Roll. It was the 50’s. The beginning of Rock and Roll. He was singing first and took to the new music. The rest is history. I love Elvis.

Elvis singing this song is powerful. The story behind the song is even more powerful. Thomas A. Dorsey wrote this song in the early 30s when his young wife died giving birth to their first child. A couple days later his newborn son died also. Distraught and grieving Mr Dorsey cried out to the only one who could heal him, his Precious Lord. Horacio Spafford who wrote “It is Well With My Soul” a powerful song about leaning on God during trials and difficult times.
