Just 2 weeks ago I was watching this video while crying my eyes out. My cat wouldn't eat, drink, or take his meds and I was sure he was dying. So anyone else in that situation please don't give up! I learned to drop the pill down his throat and blow on his nose to make him swallow. Pharmacy gave me infant/child syringes to force feed him water and wet food. it was horrible and messy BUT guess what?! It actually worked! My cat is back to eating and drinking and playing on his own. So please just don't give up, I'm so thankful I didn't 💕😺

Decreased appetite for a few weeks and then he went 5-7 days on very little water and not eating at all, so he was treated for dehydration at the vet. Then I did 3 days of force feeding/medicating/hydrating him and then, like magic, he just started getting better. Continued the pill drops and maybe day 4ish he just started eating and drinking on his own...maybe the meds kicked in at that point I don't know. But I can't explain how thankful I am!!

coming back to this vid tonight.
exactly a week ago i went here cus he refused to eat, and had been losing his appetite for days. it was the first time he got sick. he was always the cheerful type, always plays around, never stood still. so I took him to the vet 3 days ago and turned out he was sick, like really sick. the vet told me to admit him to the hospital and i did. I got a call this morning, I lost him. it all happened so fast. everything was so fast i didnt have time to process everything.
I think this is the first time in my life i've ever felt this kind of grief. i wish for you who reads this and all your pets eternal health & happiness. i wouldnt wish anything like this upon anyone. and it hasnt been too long but i already miss him so much. :'( but i wanted to thank you to whoever made this for helping me when i needed it. thank you, please be safe & take care.

You want aim ACROSS the tongue-NOT down the throat. Just an FYI since she didn't make that clear. Also... More than likely your cat will not want to eat that food again once she gets better. Better to assist feed w/ a food she doesn't normally eat. For instance , if my cat usually eats turkey, I will use beef for assist feeding.

My cat Ziggy has been sick for over a week now and hasn't eaten in 6 days (it'll be a full week as of tomorrow) with some sort of flu. All the bloodwork and x-rays came back fine, but whatever this bug is, it's rough! I've had him on an IV for IVF treatment to help keep him hydrated, which I think is the only reason he's still around. Although I knew all of these techniques already (kitty burrito, how to hold them) for some reason I still had to see it in a video to basically reinforce what I already knew and to confirm to myself that what I knew was right. Thank you for making this video, and for whoever else is having issues with their pets - do your best to stay calm, don't give up or get discouraged, and just keep being persistent. Even if you fear they're going to hate you for doing this to them, just Keep. Going. Best of luck to you!

@@SharonAbraham-mo7nf I'm so sorry to hear you're going through this. The items can be bought on Amazon and it's called "Nutri-Cal for Cats High Calorie Dietary Supplement, 4.25-Ounce Tube". I mixed this with some simple Friskies wet food patte and put it into a standard syringe you can buy at any local pet store and added a bit of water in order to make it a bit runnier, which made it easier to push through the syringe for Ziggy.
What really helped my cat in the end, was the IV I got from the vet along with the anti-nausea medication they prescribed for him. The vet told me cats can make it usually 1 1/2 weeks with just water and no food, but much like any animal, they can only go a couple of days without any water. If you can't get food into your cat, then make sure to prioritize the water, and get them to drink in ANY way you can! Please update me on your cat's progression, and if you have any other questions I'll try to answer them to the best of my ability. If your cat won't take water, and doesn't seem to be getting better, please make a vet appointment as soon as possible. I'm rooting for you two!

I just wanted to share what a lifesaver this video was for me at a really low point when I was bawling my eyes out and feeling so overwhelmed and alone. I really encourage others who are here not to give up and lose hope. In my case, our 13-year-old male Siberian cat had peed a big puddle outside his litterbox in a place he never had which I realize now was an alarm bell. I noticed for the rest of the day he proceeded to sit perched like a rotisserie chicken for an entire 18 hours without stretching out or moving from that spot and I started to really worry about him. I thought maybe he had kidney stones since he has a history of that so I took him to the emergency vet and they ran blood tests, a urinalysis, and x-rays and the only thing they could tell me was it appeared he was constipated. They loaded me up with meds and instructed me to give him Miralax water, but on day four of no eating and drinking on his own, very little peeing, and no pooing I was beyond stressed.
That's when I found this video and began force-feeding him wet food mixed with Miralax. I wasn't able to get him to eat nearly enough and he was becoming increasingly weak, but it was enough to keep him alive for the 9 days it took for him to finally pass that stool that was stuck. In those 9 days, he lost 15% of his body weight and without me would have literally starved himself to death, but I kept this hope that if I could just help him pass that poo that he would want to start eating again and my prayers were answered. Immediately after it passed he was roaming the kitchen looking for food and he has turned a big corner ever since. It's been two weeks since he passed it and you would never know we went through this ordeal. He is eating on his own with gusto and is his active self again. With my vet's advice, I am mixing 1/4 teaspoon of Miralax in with his wet food each meal, in addition to the dry food he's eating. When I tried to stop for a while his poo became tiny hard pebbles again with less frequency so I think this is just his new normal to staying regular in his old age. I'm just thrilled to have a working solution when we were so close to putting him down. Keep up the faith. Going through this alone is not easy, but I want you to know your hard work and stress might just have a happy outcome like ours. ❤

Two months later and my 14-year-old cat is healthy, eating and drinking better than he has in years, regained 15% of the bodyweight he lost during this ordeal, and is more playful than we have seen him since he was a kitten. Our entire family can see a new spring in his step that he didn't have prior. Now we are realizing he may have been chronically constipated for years. Don't lose hope. There can be light at the end of this dark tunnel.

My cat wouldn't eat/drink and keeps on vomiting for days. We sent him to the vet and our vet gave him IV drip and recovery food. He had to stay at the vet for a few days due to the IV drip. We continue to force fed him with wet food and made him drink using syringe. Now he is back up and running! We were so worried and couldn't find the cause of his vomiting. Our vet just said that he might ate something that irritates his stomach or it could be gastric. Wishing speedy recovery to everyone's cat! Just know that it's important to keep your cat hydrated and if you can't get the recovery food, you can just blend your cat's wet food with water and feed it to your cat. It's okay if your cat wouldn't finish his/her food. Just keep on feeding your cat frequently in small sizes and always make sure that your cat is hydrated. Sending my love to you and your cat

@@MorgueVOID depends on the cat and illness causing anorexia. It will entice some to eat, but if they're really sick most won't care and won't even lick the food off. Definitely good advice and should be tried first before forced feeding, bc some just need a little encouragement.

My cat is over a year old and has not been eating for a few days. The vet I went to never suggested force feeding and only prescribed antibiotics and a vitamin supplement for her fever. He also recommended IV fluid if my cat does not want to continue eating. I have to find a better vet. Thank you for this vid for new cat owners such as myself.

My daughter was in second grade when she was born (in my bedroom with her two living siblings). She's 20 now, it's just heartbreaking. You get so used to the kitties waiting for you on the front porch and just generally hanging around.

The hard part for me is not doing the actual feeding. It's having to do it in the first place. It just breaks my heart seeing my little friend starve himself. He knows I want him to eat, and he just licks the food a little bit and takes a single bite, and then he looks at me with sad eyes, like he's saying "See. I did that for you. Am I a sweet cat now?". Yes, Bruce. You are a VERY sweet cat, but now I have to force you to eat a proper meal, so we can be together for some more years.

Thank you for this video. My baby girl, Kitty, age 13 has not been eating for a week. Took her to Vet and after blood test find out she has pancreatitis and is in beginning renal failure. She has lost a quarter of her weight. Given steroid, antibiotic, and prescription wet/dry food but she won't touch the wet and has only had a very minimal amount of the dry. Dr. said we should force feed if she didn't start eating more by this weekend. They gave me syringe and I will try here in a little bit. I am praying she will get some nutrition in her this way.

Thank you for posting this video. My cat's vet recommended feeding by syringe but did not give me any direction regarding how to do this. I was using one technique that was not working well. With your technique I just give her a shot of food in through the side of her mouth and let her eat it, and then continue until done. It is a lot less stressful for both of us, and I feel better knowing she is getting 95+ % of the food in the syringe. (She spits out a little.) Cheers!

Very helpful, my 8yr old cat was fine and one morning i woke up and she was walking in circles, rushed to vet and was diagnosed with anemia and an ear infection and prescribed antibiotics and vitamins supplement after sedation wore off from exam after a couple of days she would eat some wet food but only lick the gravy and leave the chunks and take in no water, so its now day 5 and we are at the same state very lethargic and not eating or drinking on her own. so we watched this and started the syringe feeding, she of course did not like that but hey we got to get some food and water in her so she doesn't just lay around and be lethargic all day from no nutrition and to get her levels right and so the antibiotic works .

Anyone who's watching this video, I know you are going through a hard time. But please don't give up. My cat Pinku had ivermectin overdose toxicity. Everyone thought she was going to die. She was in a vegetative state. Unable to move. Just barely breathing and no other response. She didn't eat. She could not pee or poop on her own. I had to stimulate her bladder. I am a human doctor. So her vet gave me directions and I gave her subcutaneous fluids and injections daily. Had to force feed her when she was able to swallow. After 10 days she started showing improvements. Then she gradually improved over a few days. Now she is back to her normal self playing and jumping.

All of the comments on this video have given me so much hope, and have made me feel less alone. My 1 year old cat had to go to the vet after 36 hours of not eating and acting lethargic. Turns out he had swallowed a piece of black thread and they had to open his intestines at 6 different spots. The first night back, he had appetite and was bright and alert, but today, he's lethargic again and won't eat. As per the vet, I am force feeding him, but it's difficult, especially with the medications I also have to give. All that to say that the video was helpful to me, but I would go as far as to say that the comments helped even more. Thank you.

My 16-year-old-cat stopped eating after I moved from a house to an apartment (but my two other cats did not change theior eating habits). At the vet, the physical exam reveled nothing, blood tests were all good, x-rays fine--a bit of permanent redness around some gums in the mouth. I did not go for an ultrasound... $400 being too expensive. Been feeding like this for close to 2 weeks: giving three full10-12 ml syringes five of six times a day (3 syringes; 5-6x/day). We'll see. By the way, the vet suspects the possibility of cancer. So I consider this palliative care for now.

I wrapped a towel around him( remember to clean it after use if your doing without parents) and we opened his mouth with the back on spoon took milk in a bowl and slowly slowly we poured it in his mouth. Remember not to choke him tho 😳 he'll act as he's biting cuz if u put too much he wouldnt be able to swallow it so put small amounts and let it rest 😊 thanks a lot for the video it was helpful

Nice video, thank you. I am currently fostering a critical care cat through my local animal shelter and am having to force feedings. He is a 9 year old American Bobtail and has been unsucessfully trying to battle a severe URI for weeks now. He also has depression. He is really struggling... I have been mixing in his liquid minocycline into his wet food while doing feedings so he doesnt have to go through having a syringe shoved in his mouth four times a day instead of twice. I have offered him basically everything that I can think of and this cat still wont eat on his own. I wanna rip my hair out!

We know it is frustrating when they won't eat, especially with a URI. Cats usually won't eat if they can't smell the food. Keep gently force feeding as well as offering food. We know it can be a difficult task, but you are an angel in his eyes. : )

Do you have any recommendations for which food is the best for a 12yo cat with liver and possibly intestinal cancer?

My cat is a little over a year old. She was just spayed last Monday and has been fine, but suddenly today has been very sick. She threw up two days ago but we thought maybe she just overate, but then she didn't really eat much yesterday and today didn't eat anything at all. She threw up bile twice today. We are calling the vet tomorrow (right now it's 10pm) first thing and hopefully they can get her in. As for today she's hardly drank any water, hasn't ate at all in two days, and I don't have a syringe. The best thing I have is a baster. :( I tried to get her to drink a little with it but I think I need to wait for my wife to come home from work to help me do what you have in this video. Do you think it will work okay with a baster, even though it's kind of large? I live in a rural area and the nearest store is 30 minutes away and closed now :(

what does your vet say? Hopefully you did take him in. Not eating or drinking is a serious life-threatening
      problem
