매스미디어 파급력은 정말 대단하다 느낀 게 요새는 어딜 가나 혁오 노래 나오더라. 혁오는 내가 기억하기로는 대충 작년 이맘때 쯤 인디판을 휘까닥 뒤집어 놓은 밴드였다. 당시 분위기는 '인디씬에 오아시스가 나타났다', '인디씬의 미래', '사이다같은 밴드' 등등 인디씬에서 가장 핫한 밴드로 혁오가 급부상하며 한바탕 난리가 났는데, 결국 매스미디어 전에는 다 찻잔 속 태풍이었나 하는 생각조차 든다. 인디음악의 아이러니는 인디가 '나만 아는 보물같은 아티스트'라는 점이 매력의 큰 부분을 차지한다는 거다. 매스미디어로 확 떠버리면서 '나만 아는 보물'이 아닌 '만인의 보물'이 된 밴드에겐 예전처럼 홍대 클럽에서 50명도 안되는 청중 한 명 한 명과 눈을 마주치고 교감하는 공연을 기대할 수 없다. 그들을 만나려면 최소한 어지간한 규모의 락페스티벌은 기다려야 하는데, 기껏 기다려도 예전같은 친밀함은 온데간데 없다. 다만 아티스트와 팬 사이라는 경계만이 철조망처럼 세워져 있을 뿐이다. 그러다보면 '이 밴드는 원래 나만 알고 있었는데,' '너희들(이번 경우에는 무도 시청자들)이 유입되면서 물이 탁해졌다,' 보다 극단적으로는 '너희는 계속 그냥 매스미디어나 핥아라,' 등등 이른바 '부심' 부리는 사람도 생기기 마련. 물론 좋아하는 인디가 파퓰러로 넘어가면서 느껴지는 묘한 박탈감은 인디 팬이라면 한두 번은 느껴봤을 거다. 나만 알고있던 경치 좋고 평온한 언덕이 어느날 갑자기 유명해져서 조잡한 기념품점이 가득한 관광지로 개발되는 느낌. 혹은 친하게 지내던 누군가가 닿을 수 없는 어느 곳으로 훌쩍 떠나고 나만 덩그러니 남은 느낌. 그런 심리가 나쁘게 발현되면 소위 '인디부심'이 되는 것이다. 그리고 그건 틀림없이 엇나간 팬심이다. 우스운 소유욕에 기반한 묘한 박탈감을 느끼면서도, 그럼에도, 아티스트가 '먹고 살려면' 파퓰러가 낫기에 찾아오는 안도감. 내가 사랑한 그 음악이 대중적으로도 인정을 받았다는 뿌듯함. 그들이 더 나은 환경에서 펼칠 음악에 대한 기대감. 동시에 그가 파퓰러로 넘어가더라도 대중의 취향에 얽매이지 않고 하던 음악을 소신있게 계속 하기를 바라는 조바심. 그런 한 마디로 형용하기 어려운 복합적인 감정을 느끼며, 오래된 팬과 오래된 아티스트는 함께 조금 더 성숙해 지는 법이겠지. 그러면서 또 어딘가에 숨어서 반짝이고 있을 원석같은 아티스트를 찾아 나서는 게 인디 팬들의 어쩔 수 없는 습성이고. 또 그런 인디팬이 있기에 그들이 매스미디어까지 이를 수 있었던 것이겠고.

The glasses dude's old school dress sense and hairstyle reminds me of Seo Taiji. Actually, even the band as a whole just gives this old school feeling - I love it.

I remember back then when this MV only had almost 1 million views " Why aren't they getting more recognized? " now they have 16 million views and counting. Awesome songs , very talented group.

I'm actually pretty proud because when I first listened to Hyukoh, they weren't famous at all. I couldn't find a tiny info about them, so I thought about translating some to help future international fans. And I was like "These kids will become big, their style won't pass unnoticed." And I was right, after less than a year, Hyukoh became one of the most popular group in Korea. And it's spearing through the whole world. Go boys, you're doing some amazing work !
I am glad that I had discovered them but I'm just a tad sad that I didn't discover them earlier! They are definitely one of the best bands in this world!
There are lot of artist which are great and not Idols, like Zion T, Busker Busker, Lee Juck, Kim Bumsoo and many more, but that doesn't mean that Idols are bad, some of the are even on a higher level like GD, Taeyeon o.o

as a korean, I was a little shocked Hyukoh appeared in kpop main stream. i've never heard that unique voice and flavor like them before. I hope k-indie get famous more and more
more and more it is as people are more curious. I listen mostly to koren indie bands/signers now (well, they are still mainstream enought for me to be able to find them, ex: Nell). If you have any suggestions feel free to share ;)
Been here since 2016 and I can honestly say, without a doubt, this band is one of my favorites. I always return to them, no matter what. They've just given me so much with their music.

I wish I could play more of his music at the Korean cafe I work at, but the rest of them I don't find customer appropriate :( his voice is like honey and the lyrics are poetic but this song is the only happy and upbeat one I can find.

위잉위잉,와리가리,탐보이 제가 코노에서 정말 많이 불렀습니다. 사실 제 생각에 대부분의 사람들이 생각하는 노래방18번곡은 그저 고음에 가성을 많이 쓰는 곡이라고 생각하고 감상했었는데 제게는 옛날에 봤었지만 옥탑방에서 구식 냉장고에 상한달걀과 유통기한 지난 식품들,,,,아 저는 45평 집에 어머님,아버님이 관리해주시는데도 불구하고 불평하는데 뇌종양에 항암치료 받고 덥다는게 얼마나 괴로운지 아는사람인데 하물며 옥상이라 더 덥고 35평에 5분이 계시고 좁고 더군다나 쥐,벼룩,곱등이까지 그속에서 저의 18번곡을 작사,작곡 하셨다고 생각하니 정말 저랑 케미가 잘맞다고 생각이듭니다. 행님들~~~저 그래도 19만원짜리 일렉으로 아리랑 편곡했는데 다음에 밥한끼 사주세요😊

There are lot of artist which are great and not Idols, like Zion T, Busker Busker, Lee Juck, Kim Bumsoo and many more, but that doesn't mean that Idols are bad, some of the are even on a higher level like GD, Taeyeon o.o

I just recently found this band and I am in love with their music, everything about them is perfect and the raw emotions in the songs they just hit you, this band deserves more recognition damn!!
His voice is so smooth but gritty at times. I love that. And they’re playing their instruments so well. I can’t wait to listen to more of their stuff
as a korean, I was a little shocked Hyukoh appeared in kpop main stream. i've never heard that unique voice and flavor like them before. I hope k-indie get famous more and more
more and more it is as people are more curious. I listen mostly to koren indie bands/signers now (well, they are still mainstream enought for me to be able to find them, ex: Nell).

위잉위잉,와리가리,탐보이 제가 코노에서 정말 많이 불렀습니다. 사실 제 생각에 대부분의 사람들이 생각하는 노래방18번곡은 그저 고음에 가성을 많이 쓰는 곡이라고 생각하고 감상했었는데 제게는 옛날에 봤었지만 옥탑방에서 구식 냉장고에 상한달걀과 유통기한 지난 식품들,,,,아 저는 45평 집에 어머님,아버님이 관리해주시는데도 불구하고 불평하는데 뇌종양에 항암치료 받고 덥다는게 얼마나 괴로운지 아는사람인데 하물며 옥상이라 더 덥고 35평에 5분이 계시고 좁고 더군다나 쥐,벼룩,곱등이까지 그속에서 저의 18번곡을 작사,작곡 하셨다고 생각하니 정말 저랑 케미가 잘맞다고 생각이듭니다. 행님들~~~저 그래도 19만원짜리 일렉으로 아리랑 편곡했는데 다음에 밥한끼 사주세요😊
