yeah, an example of this happening is with Sakarai making melee. the dude didn't eat or sleep for days on end and had to be hospitalized because of it. honestly it's an issue that I wish was addressed more, hell even Tekken creator Harada also commented on this issue and says it's the reason why he likes to make sure the games last, because he doesn't want excessive work that's more than necessary

Working in software development it’s like this in most industries these days. Agile has taken over and while good, many leaders see it as “faster” and push past a teams actual velocity. I’m glad I’m at a company that doesn’t expect OT but most aren’t that way, whatever it takes or get to the next release on time.

I fought my brother in lego star wars and we still play it every few months. However, this game's expectations were set way too high by the fans of the original. The Burback boys do a great job in expressing how the game is great when you pair it with fair expectations of a completely different adaptation of a classic. Nice video.

I don’t think expectations were set too high. It’s got plenty of issues. I don’t blame devs, it’s on Disney for forcing out an announcement before it should’ve been released, but with so many issues now it just doesn’t feel right. Doktor Skipper makes a great video breaking down issues. I understand people wanting to believe it’s the best Lego game for nostalgia reasons, but so many good parts of the game got removed, even ones that were advertised (battle of geonosis).

some of my least favorite things are how it they cut out certain parts like battle over coruscaunt and how sometimes levels feel less like levels are more like places with actors and set pieces, its hard to describe that one, and also the lack of big battles like on genosis or kashyyyk, like they did a cool trick in the genosis arena mission where ai droids werent normal droids you usually encounter and die in one hit and i wish they used that more to allow for bigger battles, and also the game sometimes can feel a bit hand-holdy and this is a releatively small complaint, but why arent the regular rebel soldiers playable, and i also dont really like the forced camera lock for boss fights, also the lack of enemies to fight in free roam.

I appreciate your take on the game. Especially that you called out some issues and quasi-addressed the poor dev team.
I ultimately dislike this game. They removed so many great scenes from the original and replaced them with boring dialogue. Mumble mode made the animators look for creative ways to tell the story. Adding dialogue gave them the lazy out of "characters walk and talk for 12min of a 15min level with a boss fight at the end" (Kamino was the most boring level of any game I have ever played in my life). I hate the use of dialogue in this game. I'm not saying dialogue as a feature is bad. They used it to EXCELLENT effect in the whole Jurassic Park LEGO game and it never felt they leaned on it as a crutch to get away with not "showing" the audience the story ("show me, don't tell me"). We all saw the movies. We don't need crap voice acting and boring dialogue (yes, the handful of Clone Wars voice actors did well, but they didn't save the game from the plethora of awful voice acting).
Then, for some reason, this time around they decided to make an action shooter with a needlessly tight camera, shitty storytelling, ridiculous menus that even I get lost in, and boring boss fights with identical mechanics that utterly leave out the second player to stand around and scratch their ass. I only play LEGO games in 2-player mode as this is the family style game my wife is willing to play with me. She won't even play it she's so disappointed in this game. I have to agree. We returned it after a month of trying to get psyched to play it, trying, glitches kicking us out and freezing our console, trying again, frustrations over not being able to see anything with such a tight and unforgiving camera, and ultimately arguments over who gets to be what character since P2 was always "the droid" or "the sidekick generic clone/rebel/bounty hunter". I don't need 30 variation of clone trooper just so they can tout OVER 300 PLAYABLE CHARACTERS! I'm sorry, there are not 300 characters in this franchise that I can even name, and I've read majority of the extended universe. And don't get me started on the jump puzzles that have zero difficulty because you press A and your character goes to the place. The console is playing the game for me at that point. *sad sigh*
And I want my linear hallways back.

This way i wanted to test every character out. But now i don`t have a reall reason to try

I agree completely that a game like this is impossible with hyper-realistic graphics. But I also think a simpler, more fun art style is better than realism for a game like this in the first place. I feel like it allows for more creative freedom and fun (and more content) that a more serious game wouldn’t be able to do. And I’d argue it looks more interesting. I wish more games would take this approach even outside of lego. The majority of games aren’t going to look like horizon forbidden west so why not make them look more interesting/artistic while also making it easier on the devs (and maybe even get us, the epic gamers, more content)?
Just as a quick example because I like talking about this stuff: we probably won’t be getting a new batman game anytime soon and while lego batman exists, it doesn’t hit the same as a true batman game would. Why not combine the two and have the same function as a normal batman game with all the charm, fun, and simplicity (for ease of development) as a lego game, kind of like how the skywalker saga goes beyond a typical lego game to feel like a huge star wars game

This game was visually dazzling and the open world was fun, but the main story missions were genuinely awful. Almost none of them required any thinking or strategy like the great puzzle solving of the original games. They were far too reliant on the hub worlds, the boss fights were repetitive, and iconic movie segments that would have made amazing levels were cut short. Each movie feels like it’s being rushed through, and I just felt like I was sleepwalking through most of the levels especially the prequels. Phantom Menace is like 80% just walking around. The lack of character customization is also just insanely dumb

By far the funniest aspect of this game is the combat system. It is absolutely hilarious that the combat feels like baby's first DEVIL MAY CRY, with launchers and juggling and some characters can almost enemy step??? But none of the enemies have anywhere near enough health to really flex that freedom.
So what inevitably happens is you find the nearest unkillable child and beat the absolute shit out of them to see how far you can push the combat. Which again, is WAY farther than you'd ever need to.

In my opinion, they focused waaaay too much on the hub worlds and far too little on the levels for this game. About half of the story mode in the prequels and sequels was just walking in the overworld between points. The levels themselves were generally pretty short, with the exception of the OT levels (which they did an excellent job on), while the open-world planets were way too big.
The levels are the reason I play Lego games; the hub world/worlds should just add some additional fun things to do and see. The hub should not take longer to complete than the actual game. Lego Batman 2 and Lego Marvel 1 had a great balance: fun, well-paced levels and a fairly large hub that you could reasonably complete in an afternoon or two. The Skywalker Saga sacrificed levels for the sake of a huge, open-world hub, which was to the detriment of the game. It sucks even more that these giant hubs were also probably a big part of the reason crunch was necessary.

My only big issue with the game is that there isn't a lot of replayability. A lot of the story takes place in the hub and you only do that once, so miss out on a lot. Then the missions themselves are very short. It's still a great game, just misses the mark on that aspect.

Id recommend the complete saga. This game is very streamlined with most levels being around 3 minutes with plenty of cutscenes walks. Most of the characters have much more mechanical overlap and feel very samey with C3PO having combat strings and Boba Fett having a small hop for his jetpack. You'll feel the limited repetitive design boring quickly.

They didn't talk about the shitty level design, that is the one thing the Skywalker saga can't hold a candle to in the original. The fact that half of the levels are walking around and there are barely any puzzles really sucks and is a huge disappointment

  • @nivannakingsman1383
    @nivannakingsman1383 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Complete saga was one of my favorite old games I played as a kid. I know as the 20 year old playing a game intended for kids I'm not the target audience. But I didn't want elden ring bosses I wanted some sort of puzzle in the boss fight at least. I maxed the difficulty knowing it would be an easy game. The humor was amazing though. I put it on myself for getting to many expectations up. I was expecting some levels to go through but mostly the open worldness was just annoyed at having to walk slowly with the npc to a random area. Idk. I like levels and the conciseness of going from one to the other with a small or medium hub. I have 0 complaints on the actual levels when I got to them but I felt like there was huge spaces between actual levels. Again, had a blast with each level. WHEN I GOT TO THEM. I'm not a huge fan of open world's anyhow so that immediately put some negatives for me.

From watching some of the Lego shows with my son, I would say there is about five jokes a minute in those shows, Whether it be they use early 2000s randomness, or visual gags, they are definitely trying to reach as many audiences as possible. I think I first noticed this watching the emergency and rescue show with my three year old.

Just on the note of content and crunch: more crunch does not equal more content. Another game series with lightsaber like weapons is the Xenoblade series, which take hundreds of hours to complete. The devs of those games, Monolithsoft, famously are anti crunch, having a 40 hour *maximum* work week with overtime. And as a result, they are releasing Xenoblade 3 ahead of schedule.

I’m right there with you in that the quality of the game is top notch. It’s funny, The voice acting is good when they could’ve phoned it in, the game looks beautiful, and the way they recreated some of these environments is very impressive. BUT my biggest gripe is that I don’t think the ACTUAL missions are anywhere near as fun as The Complete Saga and a lot of them are also weirdly short? Some of the missions are legitimately like 3 or 4 minutes long, it’s just weird. I definitely preferred having 6 pretty long linear levels for every movie like in TCS. I found myself just trying to collect as many bricks as I could and buy as many characters as I could more than actually playing the levels and then I got bored of doing that after a week or so. Like go back and think of how memorable some of the missions in TCS were, the way the levels are set up in this game, it didn’t grab me the same way.

I think the whole thing in general is that people were expecting their nostalgia recaptured instead of something new. I expected it to be a grind because it's covering 9 whole episodes and with the fact there are hub worlds it makes sense how much grinding there would be. My main issue overall is the unreplayability vs the replayability. There are some levels and story beats you cannot repeat and that is frustrating in itself. Also some levels we're not made that I wish were made such as the Battle above Coruscant, multiplayer duel of Anakin vs Obi-Wan and more. Some of the humor felt like it was off putting in comparison to others. Where some scenes were respected it felt like others were treated in bad taste. Still there's no doubt how incredible it all looks and all the characters you play as are very diverse and fun. People talk about the repetitiveness but ignore the repetitive nature of the other games too. So that's just expected overall. I'm willing to bet this comment goes in comment purgatory.

On the B/Circle button complaint, it's also the button to rip protocol droids like C3PO in half. Which I also learned after completing the game 100% is a completely useless function anyways there's no reason for other characters to rip protocol droids in half and carry them around. But since it's also the button to use the force to move droids around often you'll be accidentally ripping droids in half when you're trying to use the force on them to get them to a certain area for a puzzle, which can get pretty annoying after awhile.
