I'm with the mom with the no guide rule on jrpgs. Alot of those games require you to really pay attention as to what's going on. Plenty of puzzles and problem solving. And helps develop memory since they don't always have a journal for quests. Good skills for kids to learn.
Obviously living in an internet cafe for 10 years is terribly unhealthy but I must respect the fact she survived for that long by herself with nothing but her gaming skills
There's another angle of this that may be going on. She's a woman in China. Missing at 14 might indicate that she might've fled her family instead of just simply running away. Not saying that it's for certain, I just know enough that other issues could be at play here.
Why most people claim bad performance in relationships women fail to realize the more you use it the more you lose sensation because mens body juice is corrosive did you know most men if they dont wash their d right will dry out because of this so the woman with alot of experience also fails to realize shes also a damaged good who lost alot of her sensation and wants to act like your at fault
After 5-6 years subscribing to Gameranx now, I swear to the gods that the day Falcon quits the channel is the day it'll lose its mojo, charm, wit -- you name it. If the story was the one in Colombia, the kid used to Go to the jungle to pass the night, and they were indigenous, that helps a lot. That story was strange
Last clip. About the kids surviving is not true. The kids didn't survive because the like video games, they are indigenous kids, they don't have video games. They survived because they have the knowledge to survive in the Amazon given by their community. Soo funny someone believed they survived because videogames LOL!
Yep, that's correct. I'm colombian and I followed that news and never heard anything about videogames, they are indigenous to the area so they knew a couple of things, the harder part is that there was an 11month old baby too!@@vialtaos
The no guides story doesn't sound so bad actually. It encourages kids to use their problem solving skills and we can't forget Japan is a country that loves Anime and Gaming but also with very intelligent people so it's understandable.
FWIW I am actually this kind of parent. Depends on the game but generally I push an anti-guide angle on my kids. Terraria for example is not reasonable, you need access to a guide
Number 1 happened last year in my country, Colombia, but to be honest, I haven't seen anywhere any mention of it being related in any way to survival videogames.
Yeah I just looked it up and what I found is that it's more due to exposure and culture. They were indigenous people and were raised in the rainforest and with survival knowhow that others wouldn't have.
As soon as Number 1 started I pointed it to that plane crash but... there's absolutely no way it was related to videogames. And it isn't. The kids were part of an indigenous community so they knew a lot of more about surviving in the jungle than your average kid. God, I hate catching my favorite creators spewing bullshit.
I remember the story about the dude stealing the plane on a Mr Ballen video. The fact he could fly because of video games is crazy. Also yeah anytime you pawn any console most shop make you try it out before they pay u. At least that’s how it was when I had to pawn my ps2 in high school for some extra cash(don’t worry I got it outta pawn once I got paid from my job at the time)
Not much to do with "video games". He was a ramp guy who knew more about Dash-8 than pilots themselves. He had a basic simulator at home with a proper software. He started aircraft all by himself, pushed back by himself, he managed to jump into moving(!) plane, close that door, taxi and take off and then did a barrel roll. He also knew how to use radios and a basic navigation. This you can't learn by playing a game as described in your comment and a video.
My dad and I were in the same guild in WoW, and he would make me do my daily quests everyday before my chores 💀💀 (he also let me skip school with him the day Cata released so that we could stay at the same level together xD)
I never thought i'd hear such dramatic music in the background of a Gameranx video. Good to see you in the new year Falcon! I've been forced to skip off several of your recent vids to avoid spoilers, glad to have one i can finish with my favorite YT Bird.
#5 I got an even better story. I worked on an Naval Air Station in Japan. We had 2 terminals (USA and Japan). The Japan terminal had a bunch of Old Japanese Armor w/weapons on display. On my day off the Japan terminal caught on fire and burned down. I was told the next day that during the fire, 2 Japanese military workers ran out of the burning building carrying a 50in TV. The Armor alone was worth over 1mil and they decide to save the TV.
I’ll give credit to the mom who forbid her kid from using game guides. At least she’s making her kid figure the problem(s) out for himself, turning it into a learning experience and improving problem solving skills and learning perseverance.
Glad to see that I'm not the only one that thinks #2 isn't so crazy. I think I will be raising my kids the same way, albeit without actual punishment and more in the encouraging way to play games without guides and/or walkthroughs (although there are types of games and certain titles that are bananas without a little external help, especially when said game isn't in their native language)
Teaches the same resilience that sports does. Although if i could look up how to get past the best defender in the NBA with a high enough accuracy.... id be in the NBA 😂
Fuck man I remember being stuck on single puzzles for days as a kid. It definitely made a relatively short game a lot longer. I don't consider this weird at all. I would probably have some sort of middle ground thing like how I used to have to wait a month for the new gaming mag to drop for tips. I think this will actually help the kids at the end of the day. It will teach patience and a sense of accomplishments you don't get when you cheat and look things up.
I kinda agree with the no guides rule .. not only for kids but for adults its good for building intelligence, and probelm solving skills. ( i would be lenient if my kid couldnt figure it out after a while tho, some games arent that good at explaining what needs to be done )
Guides are pretty much mandatory for learning the mechanics of Dwarf Fortress, especially the ASCII version Hollow Knight on the other hand only requires the compass and some patience
My personal rule is to give every in-game puzzle a solid try, but if I find myself getting genuinely frustrated or annoyed with the lack of direction, then I'll consider looking for hints or a guide. But I set a pretty high bar for frustration in that regard, because the more I'm feeling "ugh, I don't know how to do this, I don't get it!" the more rewarding it feels when you have that moment of "OH! OH THIS IS IT!" Fond memories of me and my dad puzzling through Portal 1 and 2 when that game released, we legitimately cheered when we solved a more confusing puzzle lmao

It's almost as good as The Storyteller's on old school Shoddy Cast vids. Great video as always! The hard work you, Jake, and the team put in is always appreciated. Keep doing what you do! BTW: The article at the end of the story states that the 4th child was only 1 yo. That's insane!!!
I don't know why I just love these videos. I watch them like news, even the friday show. I just grab a cup of tea for breakfast, watch the vid, and by the end, I'm exactly done with my tea and go about my day 😁😁😁😁 Good Job Falcon and Jake
Hard to believe people are on the side of the mom with the no guides thing. I honestly can't play RPGs anymore without a guide, I'm a completionist and want to collect every secret little thing, one time encounter, etc. There's no way to do that without a guide, especially if you have to do a certain thing at a certain time and aren't able to do it afterwards. I learned my lesson playing FFXII, not able to get certain items because I didn't do a certain thing in a one time battle.
The first story is actually very famous and tragic. Its about the sky king fella. Dude was depressed and wanted to go out doing something he loved, Did a lot of tricks and he crashed in an area where there were no people
Fun story. Years ago (probably around 98) I was in Best Buy with my dad and of course being 13years old, I asked him if he would buy me a game. He said yes, but only if it was the game that I hated and took back to the rental store because I said it was too hard. The game? Final Fantasy 7. I am 38 now and that is still one of my favorite games of all time. Thanks dad.
Beating Someone Up Over Losing at Video Games is in the same vein as beating someone up because your favorite Sports Team lost... Stupid... It's Just a Game
No guides is interesting but I feel like it would be kinda brutal for the younger kids. A lot of games, especially RPGs are intended for 17+ not just cuz ESRB said so but also some of the puzzles in these games are kinda tricky..
SKY KING was a legend. He was the only person to do a barrel in a commercial jet. Falcon didn’t put any respect on this man’s story. He is a mental health hero.
yeah i was surprised to see that he portrayed Sky King in such a negative light. He was never planning on crashing the plane into a populated area, it was discovered that he researched isolated places nearby with no people living nearby and thats where he crashed the plane. The guy had problems but never wanted to outwardly take his frustrations on others. Also the plane he did the barrel roll in was never built to do that, so the fact that he was able to was seriously impressive to other pilots.
20% below average means 80% are either average or better than average. You read those data bad Falcon: those would actually say that video-game players are better than average in bed, according to their partners. What the study doesn't seem to say, basically invalidating the whole thing, is how many of those gamers had an actual partner for answering the question... Thanks for your videos!
Idk what you mean by "how many of those gamers had an actual partner for answering the question" They asked partners of gamers. All of these people presumably were in a relationship with a gamer. The problem with the data is that it doesn't add up to 100%. It's actually not even close. The numbers add up to 84%, so idk what happened to the other 16% of the people in the study. Pretty dumb.
Yeah, but the stat above average was "good". So...what was the word "average" actually implying? It kind of implies "meh", "mid", "I survived the encounter" In other words, ...not good.
@@plannein Yeah, I'm pretty sure they removed the last one. Most surveys have 5 points. If excellent is extremely satisfactory, and average is the middle, the stat they removed was "extremely unsatisfactory" which is likely where the rest of the 100% is. Falcon probably spared us gamers the indignity of hearing it outloud. lol. But yeah, based on that 38% of people were "good" or better. 46% of people were less than good, aka average or below. And...the rest... well, its unspeakable. Apparently.
@honaleri that's not how the word average works. Lol.. average means satisfactory... meaning the mission was accomplished did it rock their world no but the job got done average is not bad .. below average is bad.. Example a great day is something good happening to you A average day is satisfactory nothing great happened but nothing bad happend either ..
I read up on articles about the last thing, but nowhere did it mention video games. The kids were part of an indigenous tribe and grew up in nature and were thought by their parents/grandparents how to forage and know what to/not to eat.
I usually try to avoid using a guide on a 1st playthrough unless I get stuck, but it is weird for a parent to make it a rule. Even weirder for them to be so strict about it.
What about the time some kids played a game in their house while their parents were gone and it literally summoned animals, natural disasters, and Robin Williams into their house?
Among the wave of great content I see on this channel this one hit different. I honestly went through so many emotions watching the video , I even got flashbacks of elders giving some related life lessons when I was a kid.
Growing up in the late 90's and early 00's, I never had access to guides. However today, as soon as I get stuck I turn to my phone and look it up. I've become such a lazy gamer.
Oof... The stolen airplane story was hard to listen to. I work at a TV news station here in Seattle and we were live with that story. I heard his conversations live. I remember it all clearly. I so need to find a video editing job not working in hard news.
You can find the full audio to the first video. Its legit sad AF. You really feel for the guy. He did a FULL barrel roll in a huge passenger plane and intentionally crashed into an empty island.
I grew up with a mom who constantly told me how much the video games were "ruining my mind" lol but at the same time she was also the person who printed out a several hundred page walk-through/guide on Ocarina of Time from game revolution and read it to me because I was too young too read. love you mom
I literally learnt to drive because of a video game. My dad owned a simulator when I was a kid used by actual race drivers, I was in that car every day (system was built into the car itself with hydrologics to mimic g-force and cornering) My first lesson my instructor accused me of having atleast 300 hours so I agreed with him and passed my license on the second time I saw him 😂
I love the no guide rule. Video games are frickin expensive now, it encourages the kid to have to explore everything in their game and get the most out of it rather than blasting through with a guide.
umm its very common to tell if the console has stock parts or refurbished parts to help its value stock consoles are worth more then refurbished consoles for obvious reasons 2nd hand parts market for instance its like coin collecting do you collect every coin or look for exact coins which truthfully makes you look less deranged
The woman found living in internet cafes isn't all that unheard of, I've seen stories about Asian homelessness which specifically mention internet cafes as places where people sleep and even live because it's very cheap to do so. These places are basically seen as the cheapest kind of hotel, in countries where homelessness is an extremely shameful condition and probably illegal as well. But the fact that she became so good at games that folks paid to watch her play is genuinely bizarre, although perhaps understandable under the circumstances.
Please make the next video about weird but funny stories, to counteract this one? I'm having flashbacks to my childhood where I constantly had to hear why video games were bad.
My friend and I learned more English by playing Final Fantasy 4 on SNES than taking any expensive courses. Video games are the best.
I learned more about the Bible from Uncharted 4 then from Vacation Bible School
I learned english watching Naruto in japanese with subtitles back before the Dub was even out 🤙🏼
I learned about Chinese history through the Warriors franchise
I would like to see your documentation for that double blind study.
I learnt english as a second language playing wow in 2004

The first story is actually very famous and tragic. Its about the sky king fella. Dude was depressed and wanted to go out doing something he loved, Did a lot of tricks and he crashed in an area where there were no people
dude wasn't worried about the Xbox exactly I'd imagine, I'm thinking he didn't want to lose his library and saves...
Thanks dad.
*You have me inspired to start making vids.* Much love and major props to you 😌😏
So you'll finally start making content and stop fishing for likes? You ever finish the pushups from your comment on their last video?
"I'm a bird..." that's no excuse, Falcon...
"Isn't able to practice a lot," So, they can be good at gaming, BUT have no game? 😂
New pickup line...*ehem* "I own an Xbox"😏😂
20% below average means 80% are either average or better than average.
You read those data bad Falcon:
those would actually say that video-game players are better than average in bed,
according to their partners.
What the study doesn't seem to say, basically invalidating the whole thing,
is how many of those gamers had an actual partner for answering the question...
Thanks for your videos!
I thought since it said they asked the partners of gamers, that would imply that those asked were actually in a relationship.
Idk what you mean by "how many of those gamers had an actual partner for answering the question"
They asked partners of gamers.
It kind of implies "meh", "mid", "I survived the encounter"
In other words, ...not good.
@@plannein
Yeah, I'm pretty sure they removed the last one.
Example a great day is something good happening to you
A average day is satisfactory nothing great happened but nothing bad happend either ..
Happy new year Falcon, hope your ‘24 is as lit as your ’23 in gaming
Gameranx rocks 👊🏾

A weirdest video games stories video in the middle of the month.
Yessir
I read up on articles about the last thing, but nowhere did it mention video games. The kids were part of an indigenous tribe and grew up in nature and were thought by their parents/grandparents how to forage and know what to/not to eat.
Our Pawn Shop Close By Sucks for Video Games... nothing older than the 8 th Generation
This was a nice video.
Listening to the audio of the guy who stole the plane was really sad. He seemed like a really good dude.
"Jesse where did you hide the meth?"
"Uhh i put it in the sega genesis Mr.White"
"GOD DAMNIT JESSE"
“You’re going to go and get the good ending and you’re gunna do it through trial and error alone!!!”
#10 Was about "Sky King AKA Beebo" lots of youtube videos about it, really is a beautifully sad story
"I'm a bird" - thanks my coffee is in the stratosphere
Growing up in the late 90's and early 00's, I never had access to guides. However today, as soon as I get stuck I turn to my phone and look it up. I've become such a lazy gamer.
This one was... Surprisingly morbid
Oof... The stolen airplane story was hard to listen to. I work at a TV news station here in Seattle and we were live with that story. I heard his conversations live. I remember it all clearly. I so need to find a video editing job not working in hard news.
This is a nice variation from the general variety.
Thanks, Falcon
Lmfao falk identifying himself as a bird was the gold in this video😂😂😂
Best episode i seen yet on this channel. AUTOMATIC like!
My kids were raised without guides. By example I guess. Encouraged. Never forced or anything. Told it could take away some or part of the experience.
Sounds to me like the person online was saying some horrid things to his kid and that’s why they beat them up.
😂 thank you Falcon. Story #2 was some of your finest 👏🏼
You can find the full audio to the first video. Its legit sad AF. You really feel for the guy. He did a FULL barrel roll in a huge passenger plane and intentionally crashed into an empty island.
I grew up with a mom who constantly told me how much the video games were "ruining my mind" lol
but at the same time she was also the person who printed out a several hundred page walk-through/guide on Ocarina of Time from game revolution and read it to me because I was too young too read. love you mom
Fly high sky king. Man just wanted help, got to do a barrel roll though
"i'm a bird so i think i can excempt myself from this"... finally my suspicious answered, got you there falcon 🎉
I learnt all my English cuss words and apparently became popular at school because of that from Vice City. I was in 6th grade. And I'm from India.
I literally learnt to drive because of a video game.
My dad owned a simulator when I was a kid used by actual race drivers, I was in that car every day (system was built into the car itself with hydrologics to mimic g-force and cornering)
My first lesson my instructor accused me of having atleast 300 hours so I agreed with him and passed my license on the second time I saw him 😂
I love the no guide rule. Video games are frickin expensive now, it encourages the kid to have to explore everything in their game and get the most out of it rather than blasting through with a guide.
Fly high, Skyking
A surprisingly dark video from Gameranx.
I never thought I’d see the day that gameranx would just straight up reupload a video with no changes. Oh well
And the 2023 TH-cam channel of the year goes to Gameranx!
🤝
Interesting stories,Falcon!
Wow... That last one us crazy. Insanely brave of them, I can only imagine what they went through.
Falcon on the number 2 story had me in tears with his acting ahahah😂
One of my rules as a parent was to have all three of my kids beat a game without my help. And all three did.😊
The last story was just crazy!!!
11:04 Gave me real Xenogears flashbacks. The number of times I ran through that desert town, talking to EVERYONE..... or so I thought...
"YOU CAN GET VINCENT IN DISC 1, YOU GO BACK AND FIGURE IT OUT!!" 😂😂
I learned how to drive by playing Forza Motorsports with the cockpit camera view. Embarrassing and very much unorthodox but it worked
The guides one made me laugh, thanks Falcon :)
umm its very common to tell if the console has stock parts or refurbished parts to help its value stock consoles are worth more then refurbished consoles for obvious reasons 2nd hand parts market for instance its like coin collecting do you collect every coin or look for exact coins which truthfully makes you look less deranged
"I'm a bird so I think I can exempt myself from this" 😂😂😂
Okay number two gets me laughing then again I was an old school. I had to figure it out myself back in the day so 50/50 on this😂
Falcons parent bit killed me 😂
The woman found living in internet cafes isn't all that unheard of, I've seen stories about Asian homelessness which specifically mention internet cafes as places where people sleep and even live because it's very cheap to do so. These places are basically seen as the cheapest kind of hotel, in countries where homelessness is an extremely shameful condition and probably illegal as well. But the fact that she became so good at games that folks paid to watch her play is genuinely bizarre, although perhaps understandable under the circumstances.
I back up the "guide rule" mainly because we use that. I want my son to try and figure it out for himself so he gets the sense of accomplishment.
lmao i never heard falcon going SOOO HARD any of the stories videos.
RIP SkyKing
Please make the next video about weird but funny stories, to counteract this one? I'm having flashbacks to my childhood where I constantly had to hear why video games were bad.
